I picked up a Panasonic RQ-L31, a portable tape recorder for $6.99 at thriftshop. It's shaped like a walkman, but it's oriented around voice recording, not listening to music. It has 2 mic levels, powered mic input, no radio, a counter, it's monophonic, but the killer feature, IMO, is "3X REC", which is a 1/3 speed switch which allows you to record 4.5 hours on a 90 minute cassette, probably at something closer to microcassette quality levels. 1/n
