  2. Oops, I almost forgot to identify the last image in my #10Films thread!

This image is from Zootopia (2016). In this scene they are in the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) where all the staff are sloths who work very slowly.

This film is a lot of fun. I've recommended it to several friends and family and so far it's gotten a thumbs up from all of them. It's on Disney plus.

  3. Post 10 for #10Films

The idea is "share one image (no posters, no titles, no explanation) from 10 films that impacted me. Every day a new person will be added: 10 days, 10 movie images, 10 friends."

But I didn't post every day, and didn't tag other users.

This is the last of 10 films!

I thought I'd end with a really fun movie. Highly recommended! 😁

  4. The image in post 9 of the #10Films thread shows Jodie Foster from the film Contact (1997).

The film is based on the book by Carl Sagan but it changes a number of important points (don't remember all of them). Great movie!

The idea is "share one image (no posters, no titles, no explanation) from 10 films that impacted me. Every day a new person will be added: 10 days, 10 movie images, 10 friends."

I plan to post 10 films but not posting every day and not tagging others.

I liked the book even better, but I did enjoy this movie quite a lot.

  6. The image in post 8 of the #10Films thread shows Marlene Aames and Harold Russell in The Best Years of Our Lives (1946). Quote from imdb.com:

"Harold Russell played Homer Parish. For this role he received 2 Oscars, a Best Supporting and one for being an inspiration to all returning veterans. He is the only actor to receive 2 Oscars for the same role."

I think a lot of folks will have heard of this movie but I'm not sure whether they'll recognize this image or actor.

  9. The image in post 7 of the #10Films thread is from Harold and Maude (1971). As expected, a lot of people recognized this image.

I was only 10 years old when this film came out so I didn't see it until years later. I think I saw it sometime in the late 1980s after a friend told me about it.

This film broke a lot of taboos.

  16. The image in post 6 of the #10Films thread is from Queen (2013), an Indian film that's definitely not typical Bollywood!

    Summary from imdb.com:

"A Delhi girl from a traditional family sets out on a solo honeymoon after her marriage gets cancelled."

  17. And that’s the lot! I did the #10Films meme three times, thirty films, in this thread. I think that will suffice.

  18. 10 and last: “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”. 1975. Latterly, they say that, as a midnight movie, it’s been replaced by “the Room”, which is unworthy and embarrassing, if true.

As a cultural space, “Rocky Horror” was unique and liberating. Going to “Rocky Horror” was essential for a lot of people. You could throw rice and toilet paper, do a little dance, leave your usual persona and even gender behind, and find accepting people. There weren’t a lot of spaces for that. It mattered.

  19. 9: Star Wars. I saw it during its first run, but probably not until late 1977; I was 5. I can’t really approve of what Star Wars did to movies. It probably destroyed Hollywood as a source of anything of creative value.

But like everyone who saw Star Wars at roughly the right time, it changed me. We all grew up thinking about it, pretending we were characters in it; we had to buy a lot of junk. It was THE cultural force of the late 70s and early 80s and therefore of my whole childhood.

  20. 7 is another one I associate with a departed friend. “The Young Poisoner’s Handbook”, directed by Benjamin Ross, whose filmography is unfortunately short. The film tells a fictionalized version of the story of serial poisoner Graham Young. Hugh O’Conor is brilliantly creepy as the murderer. To this day I have a little moment of hesitation whenever I use eye drops.
