  5. 🎼 Mission Accomplished. 🎧

Some people run marathons. Some write novels. I spent the last four years listening to every single album from all editions of 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. That’s 1,089 albums. One a day. With only a few breaks during holidays.Just me, my headphones, and the occasional existential crisis during a Kid Rock album.

I started this project because I needed something to focus on. Something big, weird, and slightly obsessive. I’ve always been a music nut and was delighted when a friend introduced me to this website. A random album of the list per day. I didn’t just rediscover old favorites; I found incredible stuff I never expected: Black Monk Time by The Monks , 3 + 3 by the Isley Brothers, Entertainment! By Gang Of Four, Out of Step by Minor Threat, and Echo & the Bunnymen of all bands, who I liked way more than I ever thought I would.

Not everything was gold. Some albums felt like audio beige. And then there was that Kid Rock album, which remains the single worst thing that deserves my purest contempt. I finally figured out what I don’t like: emotionally dishonest or overpolished fluff. Steely Dan? Too smooth. ELP? Too much fretwanking, not enough soul. I need me some grit, some weirdness or conviction.

I learned that I love music that grabs you by the gut, makes your brain fizz, or lights a fire under your feet. And apparently, I like industrial and postrock a lot more than I realized.

This wasn’t just about ticking off a list—it actually feels like finishing something meaningful.

Now this book and list, to me, have some GLARING omissions. There's no Weezer, no Tool, no Moody Blues, or Bad Religion. They really could've cut some of the 8 Neil Young or 6 Elvis Costello albums and make way for some artists that belong on a list like this.

But hey, this was never “The 1001 Best Albums.” It was “1001 You Should Hear.” And I did. Done.
