Trying to install Ubuntu Server on a beefy laptop to use as a new consolidated house media server. Won't boot from my USB stick installer. Go to change the boot order, but it won't boot into BIOS settings, it just gives a black screen. Eventually settle on a theory that this is because the CMOS battery is gone. The vendor, System76, agrees with my diagnosis, but describes the CMOS battery as 6-23-22015-TE0, and including $30 shipping, it's $58 to get a new one. WTAF? This is a $5 part at most.

(Well, I guess it kinda makes sense to make this change, even if it seems like a dumb pro-AI move at first, because the previous policy was kinda vague, they already made some exceptions with more mature AI written or assisted apps, but it wasn't really obvious what they considered mature. I guess the current one makes a bit more sense, that they determine whether an app should be allowed, on a case-by-case basis, filtering out only obvious, low-quality slop (let's assume that reviewers will be judging things objectively))
