My oldest kid moved to NYC as a student in 2023. We continued to receive ballots for him here as this was still his primary address, and he voted in NV in the 2024 presidential election
In 2025 he started working in NYC (while still a student) and voted in the NYC primary as he now considered himself a resident by virtue of receiving tax documents there
He never actively canceled his registration here. I am sure he thought it happened automagically once he voted in NY. He has obviously not voted in NV since voting in NY, and wouldn't do so unless he moved back here.
We received a ballot for him at our address a few days ago. I am not asking this as a hypothetical — we have already started the process of de-registering him in NV. But it got me curious
What is the mechanism for catching that? Aside from the obvious cheaters, I'm sure there are people who do this by accident or without knowing it's illegal.
And if it's discovered, are both votes invalidated?
