  1. I'm continuing my long, slow playthrough of and have just finished the main MSQ for . Really enjoyed it on the whole... The story-telling felt snappy and quick coming back from , and there were some interesting action quests among the "go here, talk to this guy" quests.

I didn't like the enforced social raid at the end, but it was fine as a black mage.

Looking forward to now (after the in-between quests).

  2. Getting an extra hour in bed... to lie awake and listen to the storm mutilate the roof is a real monkey paw moment in British weather.

  3. For the second time in my reading career, I'm giving up on Neal Stephenson's .

I first tried it in '09, my first Kindle book and managed about 25%. This time I got slightly further, 35%, before bouncing off.

It's clearly well researched, deep, cleverly written, but it is sooo incredibly slow and has only the loosest plot. It's more of a description of slightly connected events.

I wanted to love it so much, both times, but it's a very hard book to love. Maybe next time.

  4. You won't hear us post much about our local (around 3 miles away) , and the elevation chart betrays the reason why. Flatts Lane has a brutal hill section that you have to run twice, and that's been enough to put us off.

Well, I was flying solo today, while my run buddy watched a skittish dog... so I decided to do it.

No regrets. Well, except leg regret, ankle regret, ptsd regret. Beat my previous course best by a good four minutes, but felt every mile of it.

  5. Spoiler: they were not the last ones standing.
