My 29 year old daughter just did the #my9albums thing. They include The Beach Boys (Pet Sounds), Beck ( Guero), Jeff Buckley (Grace) and Elvis Costello (Armed Forces).
Of course music was better back then!😁

There are assorted problems, faults and hangovers.
One was tackled early on in the last run of Labour govs, and has now been eliminated (with, as traditional, a little smoothing over - by hereditaries being remade life peers).
Taking the rest from top and bottom, the most important and the easiest, can go on for a while.

The stick is very, very simple. Ban the collection, use and resale of cross-site behavioral tracking for advertising purposes. GDPR has teeth, if we just enforce it.
That one change, and Meta, TikTok and Google lose all their traffic leverage. Of course that's precisely why lobbyists want to ensure politicians think it is impossible to enforce.
I just posted my9albums, but then looked at the ranking of posted albums.... which itself is rather instructive about what lasts (among a certain demographic, for sure).

Perhaps a little more quietly than in the past, the next UN Climate Convention, CoP31 gets under way in two weeks time... we can expect:
lots of pious words; but
lots of blocking (through procedural manipulation, focus shifting and backroom diplomacy);
claims the US withdrawal from the Paris Agreement is not fatal...
But, more generally what we will see is more about what we won't see... any concerted & comprehensive agreed actions on climate change!
Bill Gates is warning (in the Observer) that AI will see mass job losses, but the need for a 'safety net' means that the wealthy (who reap much of the financial benefit ) will need to pay more tax.
Whatever the merits of the second aspect of his argument, (as always) this sort of technological determinism undermines responses;
AI & associated technologies are not natural forces we need to deal with, they are human constructs whose social impact can & *should* be fully regulated!
As the Banks accelerated the closure of branches you may recall one of the remedies to 'banking deserts' was to refer people to Post Offices that could offer a range of quasi-banking services....
Well, now, as part of its restructuring of the TJ Jones chain (formally WH Smiths), its Private Equity owner is effectively closing 70 PO branches. Its as yet unclear how this maps onto banking deserts, but it will certainly compound the problem.

This isn't the whole story, but this graphic makes the really important point, that behind low levels of job satisfaction & ongoing health issues, we need to focus on the shift(s) in the economic system, not the changes in jobs (although, unlike this graphic I'd want to argue that these too are significant drivers of people's negative experiences of the world of work & life more generally).
