I discovered that over the course of my full-ride BSBA and half of a full-ride MBA, my institution and the Florida lottery system has paid out approximately $50,000 in scholarships and grants to my account for tuition, housing, and other educational expenses.

So, the state of Florida has paid for 6 years of my professional education for $10,000 less than the cost of one year of undergraduate tuition at an Ivy League school.

Today I started making my boss a list of all of the stuff I say regularly so that when I’m not there every day and just an adjunct, I will still be there every day in the form of note cards living on the knick-knack shelf he has made of all of the stuff I’ve brought him back from my musician travels.

Working on part 2/8 of my master's thesis. Currently just under 4k words and just over 20 pages. Trying to finish designing an economy of scale study on how hard it is for a grocery store to make and sell its own bread, and then how to pass the bread along in an ethical way without contributing further to food waste. And it's due in about 30 hours but I'm only going to spend another hour or two on the damn thing lol.

I do not know a single #businessschool that evaluates student #learning. They all opted for "client-centered" "quality" evaluations (plus student testing, of course), in which students are invited to judge teachers, instead of results. Reflections on context & learning are suppressed.

This only produces losers.

Behind many of our problems is the belief that #management is a general skill that can be directed at any problem (via a set of #financial data analyses & #BusinessSchool methods).

In Govt. this sees 'generalists' (actually with little in the way of management skills at all) moved/shuffled around between roles where they flounder & declaim before moving on.

In the #privatesector we see it in toxic, macho management that treats #workers as a cost to be reduced, not a resource to be tended...

Here's a good but of simple advice from Chris Cook (FT) for our (often) sociopathic #management class when they are (among other things) thinking about #outsourcing & #supplychain contracts:

'Is there anything you don’t want to appear in the press about your pay gaps or tax records? Anything that would annoy the median voter? Maybe don’t do it. Behave as you would want your own subcontractors to behave'!

Its a simple ethics, but often seems beyond many managers fresh out of #BusinessSchool!

A report led by Daron Acemoglu discussed @financialtimes this morning suggests firms with #BusinessSchool educated leaders have a higher share price, pay higher dividends & reward CEOs more highly than average... this equates to #shareholder interests being prioritised!

Why? One reason is most Business Schools are mostly mono-cultrual (in #class terms) & as such normalise the interests of a shareholding class... more class diversity is required if we are to resolve the problem of low(er) wages!
