  1. Thanks to the great work of @CalcProgrammer1 on @OpenRGB, I was able to configure two different keyboard color schemes for my private computer and my work laptop to better help me distinguish when I'm using which (I use the same peripherals via a KVM switch).

I have to admit that it took me a few tries to figure out how to save profiles and to load them upon startup, but I keep being amazed by #OpenRGB!

  2. I made a video discussing and demonstrating my RP2040 ARGB splitter and showing off some upcoming #OpenRGB features.

  3. Yesssss! All it needed was the idle reset and to fix an off by one error on the bit counter! Successfully splitting a 30 LED WS2812 stream into two 15 LED streams (actually the controller is sending 255 LEDs but #OpenRGB is only driving 30). Now to rig up a third output to make sure subsequent switches still work.

  4. I created an updated version of my #OpenRGB Desk Fan project, a 3D printed and Arduino Pro Micro based stand and controller for an RGB PC fan to be used as a desk fan. The new design cleans up the base and allows both 120mm and 140mm fans to be used.

  5. If you use #OpenRGB's client/server functionality, you may have been annoyed that the GUI doesn't sync. The server's GUI may not update when the client changes certain things or vice versa. For OpenRGB 1.0, I've just implemented the RGBController::SignalUpdate callback sync over the SDK protocol. Now the GUI stays synced between clients and servers. Still very early and probably has edge cases to fix, but proof of concept works!

  6. Nice #openrgb with the effects plugin has an ambient effect that captures the screen and uses the average color information to control LEDs.

You also need the visual map plugin so that you can define which LED should react to what square on the screen.

This replaces the philips hue app on linux. And as an added bonus works with many other LED lights.

It also works with games. Tested it with the beautiful stars and nebulas in #avorion

    Cool.

  7. @TheOneDoc I added support for it in #OpenRGB soon after it came out. Try the latest pipeline builds and it should be detected.

    🌈 Awesome

Will be very interesting the see the difference it makes from v0.9 on an older X470 MB and a newer X870E one.

Nice having the whole of Sunday to fiddle quite a bit with 🤩

  9. Just spent most of 8 hours at the library working on #OpenRGB. They had a "write to midnight" event and while most people were writing stories, there were people working on a variety of other projects as well. I used the time to get SettingsManager and ProfileManager routed through the OpenRGB SDK protocol. Now, when running as a service, OpenRGB's GUI client will use the settings and profiles from the service instance except for UI/client specific settings.

  10. @killyourfm I absolutely need to get #OpenRGB working on the #SteamMachine. It looks incredible and I need it.

  11. Working on #OpenRGB at the library is relaxing. Today I cleaned up ProfileManager code and added the ability to load a profile on open, which I think will replace the AutoStart-specific load profile option. The new profile format integrates properly with plugins, allowing saved profiles to save effects plugin effects directly rather than the plugin having its own profile system. Tested On Open, On Exit, On Suspend, and On Resume on both Windows and Linux.

  12. @maxleibman thanks to some of the devs of open source software I use daily:

    * @nikclayton for the very client I'm typing this from: #Pachli
    * @_jocmp for RSS reader with the quality and simplicity I love: #CapyReader
    * @CalcProgrammer1 for allowing me to tone down the RGB party that every PC hardware now embeds, without having to install a different malware per brand: #OpenRGB

And I'm sure I'd find many other contributors to software I use if I looked better, but thank you all!

  13. Made progress on an #OpenRGB controller for #QMK #Vial #VialRGB. It's the protocol used to control the RGB on the #RaspberryPi 500+. I'm dumbfounded as to why they chose 8/8/8 HSV instead of sending RGB directly, means a bunch of extra math to get worse color accuracy but it's how they designed the protocol for some reason.

Next step is to figure out the matrix layout.

  14. After the news that was getting control in with the addition of the OEM I2C bus, it looks like GPUs will also have proper lighting control as NVIDIA fixes several year old bug with their I2C driver. This should now allow proper control of NVIDIA and graphics cards' RGB lighting on Linux! The fix comes in NVIDIA driver release 565.77.

  19. My #RP2040 #OpenRGB Smart ARGB Splitter PCBs came! #OSHPark did a great job on them and they work as expected. Splitting one ARGB/WS2812 signal into up to 8 output channels.

  20. One man's trash is another man's treasure. (well one piece of trash was mine)

I had AMD Wraith Prism CPU cooler. It came together with the CPU. It was fine. But after 6 years of spinning, while my CPU was calculating stuff mostly for Rosetta@home, it grind to a halt. So I bought a new CPU cooler for replacement. End of a story? Not exactly.

The AMD Wraith Prism has RBG LEDs! As long as they were hidden inside my computer case, I didn't care about them. But as I was supposed to dump this, I felt uneasy throwing away something that actually works. So I ripped it out, quite literally in some places.

The electronics were powered by 12V CPU cooler connector. It has also USB connector for controlling (works with OpenRGB), but it had only data and ground wires. Turns out it works just fine with 5V, that can be provided by USB.

  21. Wrote a tiny little patch for #VoidCrew tonight that lets it make #OpenRGB calls after a fashion.

Now the ship lighting is integrated with case lighting! Need to implement effects, but it's something.

  22. Yay, one more thing I ignored because it wasn't important but is satisfying now it works: I finally found a Linux application that flawlessly configures the LED lighting of my keyboard. The keyboard defaults to an animation and I really don't care that much how it's lighted, as long as it's... not animated. Now I can have any color combination I want and also adjust the brightness as needed. Thanks OpenRGB!

  24. Got the start of an #ARGB #WS2812 signal parser working using #RaspberryPi #RP2040 PIO. Going to use this with my #OpenRGB RP2040 ARGB splitter project to send configuration data (LED channel counts) using a standard ARGB controller output. RP2040 PIO is awesome for dealing with high speed serial signals!
