Trump blabbed about a secret CIA strike inside Venezuela. He just can’t keep his mouth shut.

The CIA reportedly carried out a drone strike earlier this month on a dock in Venezuela that the United States has alleged is a port for trafficking drugs, marking a major escalation of the Trump administration’s military actions in the Caribbean.
The U.S. government believed the site was used by members of Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua to store and ship drugs overseas, according to CNN.
No one was present at the port at the time of the strike, according to the network’s source. Still, the operation allegedly destroyed the facility, even if it represented just one of many such docks along Venezuela’s coastline that might be used by smugglers. The strike is the first known U.S. operation inside the country.
President Donald Trump appeared to acknowledge the operation during an interview Friday, saying U.S. military assets struck a “big facility where ships come from.”
Asked again on Monday, the president said American forces had attacked “the dock area where they load the boats up with drugs.”
“So we hit all the boats, and now we hit the area,” the president added. “It’s the implementation area, that’s where they implement, and that is no longer around.” [….]
The episode marks the latest escalation of tensions between the United States and Nicolas Maduro’s regime after the Coast Guard seized a second sanctioned oil tanker last week and pursued a third, following months of deadly strikes on alleged drug boats in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific that have killed more than 100 people.

President Donald Trump has thrust the country into a significant new phase in his showdown with Venezuela with a CIA strike on a port facility.
But as he approaches grave new decisions on even greater escalations, his team has not yet spelled out a clear consistent public rationale for its actions.
Nor has it prepared the country for what might come next.
Top officials haven’t explained how long the massive naval buildup in the Caribbean will last or what US service members will be asked to do in an operation that is already raising legal and constitutional alarms.
Neither Trump nor his top foreign policy aides have sketched a preferred endgame for the confrontation, which has climbed a ladder of escalation: from diplomatic pressure to strikes against alleged drug-trafficking boatsin the Caribbean to a blockade against oil tankers to, now, a land attack.
If the goal really is to overthrow President Nicolás Maduro, as recent comments from top officials and the logic of the deployment imply, there’s been no White House effort to show Americans the administration is planning for the aftermath. This is an especially relevant point given the quagmires that developed after US military action to topple the rulers of Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya.
Trump doesn’t recognize any responsibility to inform the American people of is plans, if there are any. He sees himself as a dictator.

Rep. Adam Smith, the top Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, told CNN’s Brianna Keilar Tuesday that the CIA attack was a significant sharpening of US pressure and raised a knot of thorny questions.
“Where it goes from here, I think, is the thing to be concerned about, because Trump clearly wants to drive Maduro from power,” Smith said, arguing that boat strikes and other means of duress didn’t seem like they would have the intended effect. If they don’t, Smith continued, “What is Trump prepared to do next? How far is he willing to take this effort at regime change in Venezuela?”
Perhaps Trump’s fogginess is deliberate. If the buildup and steady escalations are part of a psychological operations campaign to wrong-foot Maduro or to persuade his regime cronies they’d be safer without him, confusion and disorientation could act as weapons. Even from the outside, it’s obvious the CIA strike on the port facility — in which, sources said, no one was killed — is a performative warning that far greater US capabilities can be brought to bear.
Yet the more serious the situation gets — especially now the US has crossed the threshold into land attacks — the more acute is the obligation to inform Americans of the administration’s plans. The founders never envisaged presidents being able to wage war on a whim. And large and intractable conflicts have sometimes started with discrete actions that mushroom into consequences that can cascade out of control. Take Vietnam as an example.

A thunderous boom rang out through the windless late-afternoon air. Seconds later, smoke began rising out of the sea as if the horizon were on fire.
Watching from the shore on Nov. 6, Erika Palacio Fernández whipped out her phone, she said, unwittingly recording the only verified and independent video known to date of the aftermath of an airstrike in the Trump administration’s campaign against what it calls “narco-terrorists.”
Two days later, on that same shore, a scorched 30-foot-long boat itself would wash up. Then, two mangled bodies. Then charred jerrycans, life jackets and dozens of packets that were observed by The New York Times and were similar to others that have been found after anti-narcotics operations in the region. Most packets were empty, though traces of a substance that looked and smelled like marijuana were found in the lining of a few.
The assortment of singed flotsam appears to be the first physical evidence of the U.S. campaign, which has destroyed 30 vessels and killed more than 100 people in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific. Every other struck boat is presumed to have sunk along with its crew and cargo. The U.S. military has offered no evidence that the boats it has destroyed were transporting illicit substances or belong to criminal networks.

A Times analysis matched the wreckage of the boat to the one in a video posted by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on the night of Nov. 6, hours after Ms. Palacio took her video. Mr. Hegseth described the strike as having targeted a vessel in the Caribbean operated by an unnamed “designated terrorist organization.” He said the strike killed three people and took place in international waters.
The Times analysis of Ms. Palacio’s video indicates the strike took place in the Gulf of Venezuela, where Colombia and Venezuela have long disputed their maritime boundary. The analysis could not determine the exact location of the strike.
The shape of the wreckage, a slender design typical of speedboats, matches that of the boat targeted in the video shared by the Defense Department, the Times analysis found, and shows damage to the boat’s hull and interior structure consistent with the impact of an airstrike. The military video shows the boat exploding and on fire beneath a large plume of smoke.That such rare, tangible evidence is coming to light nearly two months after the early November strike is a testament both to the remoteness of the Guajira Peninsula, where the wreckage was found, and the lack of a sizable presence of the Colombian state in the area. The region is governed semiautonomously by an Indigenous community, the Wayuu, whose more than half a million people straddle the border between Colombia and Venezuela.
So Trump and Hegseth are blowing up boats carrying Marijuana–a substance that is legal in 24 states and more for medical use.
Trump’s takeover of the Kennedy Center

More artists have announced they are backing out of upcoming dates at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., in protest of President Donald Trump’s takeover, and recent potentially illegal renaming of the institution as the Trump-Kennedy Center.
Jazz supergroup The Cookers announced on its website it will not be performing across a series of two New Year’s Eve concerts.
“Jazz was born from struggle and from a relentless insistence on freedom: freedom of thought, of expression, and of the full human voice,” the group wrote in a statement. “Some of us have been making this music for many decades, and that history still shapes us.”
“I would never even consider performing in a venue bearing a name (and being controlled by the kind of board) that represents overt racism and deliberate destruction of African American music and culture,” Billy Harper, a saxophonist in the group, reportedly added in a statement to Jazz Stage.
The Doug Varone and Dancers troupe on Monday added that it will not carry out a planned April performance at the center.
The group wrote in a statement on Instagram that while it opposed the president’s decision to replace the center’s bipartisan board in February with a group of allies who later installed him as chairman, it initially still planned to carry out the engagement. That changed when center’s board voted earlier this month to rebrand the institution the Trump-Kennedy Center, according to the statement.
“We can no longer permit ourselves nor ask our audiences to step inside this once great institution,” the statement said. “The Kennedy Center was named in honor of our 35th President who fervently believed that the arts were the beating heart of our nation, as well as an integral part of international diplomacy. We hope in three-year’s time, that the Center and its reputation will return to that glory.” [….]
The wave of cancellations follows the news that drummer and vibraphonist Chuck Redd canceled a longstanding Christmas Eve jazz concert at the center in protest of the name change.
The Washington Post: Kennedy Center changed board rules months before vote to add Trump’s name.
The Kennedy Center adopted bylaws earlier this year that limited voting to presidentially appointed trustees, a move that preceded a unanimous decision this month by board members installed by President Donald Trump to add his name to the center.
The current bylaws, obtained by The Washington Post, were revised in May to specify that board members designated by Congress — known as ex officio members — could not vote or count toward a quorum. Legal experts say the move may conflict with the institution’s charter.
Trump took over the Kennedy Center in February, purging its board of members he had not appointed. The months that followed saw struggling ticket sales and programming changes that began to align the arts complex with the Trump administration’s broader cultural aims, culminating with the annual Kennedy Center Honors hosted by the president.
Days later, on Dec. 18, the board voted to add the president’s name to the institution, and within 24 hours it was on the website and the building itself: “The Donald J. Trump and The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts.” [….]
The Kennedy Center lists 34 presidentially appointed board members, including Trump himself as chair, and 23 ex officio seats. The center’s president, Richard Grenell, is also an officer of the board.
The federal law that established the Kennedy Center designates specific government and federal positions — including the librarian of Congress; the mayor of Washington, D.C.; the secretary of the Smithsonian Institution; and the majority and minority leaders of the Senate — to serve as ex officio members.
The law identifies them as part of the board of trustees, which it directs to maintain and administer the facility as a living memorial. But it does not distinguish between voting and nonvoting members, which has been a point of ambiguity in the days following the vote to rename the Kennedy Center….
A former Kennedy Center staffer with knowledge of board proceedings, who spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear of retribution, told The Post that ex officio members were “always included in debate and discussion” during their tenure, but the person did not recall a time when those members’ votes were counted.
“Theoretically they could vote, but our practice was not to have them vote or count toward quorum,” the person said, noting they were not aware of the new leadership’s practices at the center.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials are planning to spend $100 million over a one-year period to recruit gun-rights supporters and military enthusiasts through online influencers and a geo-targeted advertising campaign, part of what the agency called a “wartime recruitment” strategy it said was critical to hiring thousands of new deportation officers nationwide, according to an internal document reviewed by The Washington Post.
The spending would help President Donald Trump’s mass-deportation agenda dominate media networks and recruitment channels, including through ads targeting people who have attended UFC fights, listened to patriotic podcasts or shown an interest in guns and tactical gear, according to a 30-page document distributed among officials in this summer detailing ICE’s “surge hiring marketing strategy.”

The Department of Homeland Security has spoken publicly about its fast-tracked effort to significantly increase ICE’s workforce by hiring more than 10,000 new employees, a surge promoted on social media with calls for recruits willing to perform their “sacred duty” and “defend the homeland” by repelling “foreign invaders.” The agency currently employs more than 20,000 people, according to ICE’s website.
But the document, reported here for the first time, reveals new details about the vast scale of the recruitment effort and its unconventional strategy to “flood the market” with millions of dollars in spending for Snapchat ads, influencers and live streamers on Rumble, a video platform popular with conservatives. Under the strategy, ICE would also use an ad-industry technique known as “geofencing” to send ads to the phone web browsers and social media feeds of anyone who set foot near military bases, NASCAR races, college campuses or gun and trade shows.
The document was also distributed among ICE officials in the days after the agency published a request for bids seeking contractors who could use “precise audience targeting, performance media management, and results-driven creative strategies” to “accelerate the achievement of [its] recruiting goals.” The language in the published bid closely mirrored language in the strategy document. That same month, DHS awarded two marketing firms nearly $40 million to support ICE’s public affairs office “recruitment campaign,” according to federal awards data.
It’s unclear how much of the spending and strategy have been carried out. But the plans outlined in the document have coincided with a rush of recruitment ads online seeking Americans who will “answer the call to serve.”
The rapid-recruitment approach is unlike anything ICE has ever pursued, said Sarah Saldaña, a director of ICE during the Obama administration, who recalled the agency filling its open positions through local police departments and sheriff’s offices with appeals to officers’ interests in federal public-safety work.

The hallmark of the first year of President Donald J. Trump’s second term has been the attempt of the president and his cronies to dismantle the constitutional system set up by the framers of that document when they established the United States of America. It’s not simply that they have broken the laws. They have acted as if the laws, and the Constitution that underpins them, don’t exist.
As soon as the 2024 election results were clear, billionaire Elon Musk, who had supported Trump’s campaign both through his purchase of Twitter—now X—and with $290 million in cash, posted on social media: “Novus Ordo Seclorum,” Latin for “New World Order.” Although he won with less than 50% of the vote, Trump announced that he had an “unprecedented and powerful mandate.” Musk would head a new “Department of Government Efficiency” that Musk vowed would cut at least $2 trillion from the federal budget.
Musk and his operatives muscled their way into government offices and gained access to computer systems. With strokes of a keyboard they eliminated jobs and programs, including, as Musk put it, feeding “into the wood chipper” most of the U.S. Agency for International Development, the government agency aimed at combating disease and malnutrition around the globe. That dismantling has caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people.
The Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank, recently concluded that while the Department of Government Efficiency did not actually reduce spending, it did cut almost 10% of federal employees, a key goal of Office of Management and Budget director Russell Vought, a key author of Project 2025.
And, crucially, it put operatives in virtually all government departments and agencies, where they gained access to privileged information about Americans, including citizens, legal residents, and undocumented immigrants.
Musk and DOGE also established the idea that the unelected officials in the Trump administration could do whatever they wished, without regard to the laws or the Constitution. The Constitution, judicial precedent, and the 1974 Impoundment Control Act all make it very clear that the power of the purse belongs to Congress. As the elected representatives of the American people, only members of the House of Representatives and the Senate can determine how the nation’s money is spent. Then the president must “take Care that the laws be faithfully executed.”
Democrats objected to the administration’s dramatic usurpation of the power of Congress, but Republicans did not complain. Most backed the administration’s claims it was eliminating “waste, fraud, and abuse.”
Although Republicans controlled both chambers of Congress, meaning that Trump should have been able to get any legislation he wanted, he continued to try to get around the Constitution by declaring nine “emergencies” that would permit him to act without congressional oversight. This reliance on emergencies reflected the ideas of Nazi political theorist Carl Schmitt, whose writings were followed by right-wing leaders, including billionaire Peter Thiel and the man who influenced him, Curtis Yarvin. Schmitt argued that power belongs to the leader who can exploit emergencies that create exceptions to the constitutional order, enabling him to exercise power without regard to the law.

“We took the freedom of speech away.”
That was part of President Trump’s explanation in October of his executive order that purports to criminalize burning the American flag. Though his words fail as a constitutional rationale, they inadvertently distill many of his efforts at smothering dissent during the past 11 months.
Since returning to office, Mr. Trump and his administration have tried to undermine the First Amendment, suppress information that he and his supporters don’t like and hamstring parts of the academic, legal and private sectors through lawsuits and coercion — to flood the zone, as his ally, Steve Bannon, might say.
Some examples are well known, such as when ABC briefly took Jimmy Kimmel off the air after Brendan Carr, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, objected to a reference in one of Mr. Kimmel’s monologues about the killing of Charlie Kirk. Other examples received less attention, but by my count, this year there were about 200 instances of administration attempts at censorship, nearly all of which I outline in a new report.
Mr. Trump’s playbook isn’t random. It employs several recurring modes of attack.
The president has tried to cow the press. His administration banned Associated Press reporters from certain parts of the White House and Air Force One because the outlet uses “Gulf of Mexico” rather than the term Mr. Trump prefers, “Gulf of America.” It tried and failed to force some of the nation’s biggest news organizations to agree to restrictions on coverage of the Pentagon. He has said critical coverage of his initiatives is “really illegal.”
A journalist from El Salvador, Mario Guevara, was arrested while reporting on a No Kings protest in Georgia; he was detained for more than three months, then deported. At an Oval Office meeting between Mr. Trump and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, an ABC News correspondent, Mary Bruce, asked about the killing of the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi and about the Jeffrey Epstein files. Mr. Trump replied by berating her at length, at one point describing one of her questions as “insubordinate” — a characterization that upends the entire notion of a free press.
The administration has used immigration status to try to suppress political speech. In March, Mahmoud Khalil, a green card holder and a leader of pro-Palestinian demonstrations on the Columbia campus, was arrested and detained by immigration officials for several months. That month, Rumeysa Ozturk, a student visa holder, was arrested by immigration officials and detained for several weeks, apparently because she was an author of an opinion essay criticizing Tufts University for its response to the Israel-Hamas war.
It seems almost no one is beyond the scope of administration efforts to muzzle views or decisions that conflict with Mr. Trump’s agenda: After Federal District Court Judge James Boasberg ruled against the administration in a case involving the deportation of Venezuelans to El Salvador, Mr. Trump called for the judge to be impeached. A trainee was dismissed from the F.B.I.’s academy, apparently for having displayed an L.G.B.T.Q. Pride flag. The F.B.I. also appears to have fired agents for kneeling during George Floyd protests.

Watching from the shore on Nov. 6, Erika Palacio Fernández whipped out her phone, she said, unwittingly recording the only verified and independent video known to date of the aftermath of an airstrike in the Trump administration’s campaign against what it calls “narco-terrorists.”
Two days later, on that same shore, a scorched 30-foot-long boat itself would wash up. Then, two mangled bodies. Then charred jerrycans, life jackets and dozens of packets that were observed by The New York Times and were similar to others that have been found after anti-narcotics operations in the region. Most packets were empty, though traces of a substance that looked and smelled like marijuana were found in the lining of a few.
The assortment of singed flotsam appears to be the first physical evidence of the U.S. campaign, which has destroyed 30 vessels and killed more than 100 people in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific. Every other struck boat is presumed to have sunk along with its crew and cargo. The U.S. military has offered no evidence that the boats it has destroyed were transporting illicit substances or belong to criminal networks.

A Times analysis matched the wreckage of the boat to the one in a video posted by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on the night of Nov. 6, hours after Ms. Palacio took her video. Mr. Hegseth described the strike as having targeted a vessel in the Caribbean operated by an unnamed “designated terrorist organization.” He said the strike killed three people and took place in international waters.
The Times analysis of Ms. Palacio’s video indicates the strike took place in the Gulf of Venezuela, where Colombia and Venezuela have long disputed their maritime boundary. The analysis could not determine the exact location of the strike.
The shape of the wreckage, a slender design typical of speedboats, matches that of the boat targeted in the video shared by the Defense Department, the Times analysis found, and shows damage to the boat’s hull and interior structure consistent with the impact of an airstrike. The military video shows the boat exploding and on fire beneath a large plume of smoke.That such rare, tangible evidence is coming to light nearly two months after the early November strike is a testament both to the remoteness of the Guajira Peninsula, where the wreckage was found, and the lack of a sizable presence of the Colombian state in the area. The region is governed semiautonomously by an Indigenous community, the Wayuu, whose more than half a million people straddle the border between Colombia and Venezuela.
So Trump and Hegseth are blowing up boats carrying Marijuana–a substance that is legal in 24 states and more for medical use.

Jazz supergroup The Cookers announced on its website it will not be performing across a series of two New Year’s Eve concerts.
“Jazz was born from struggle and from a relentless insistence on freedom: freedom of thought, of expression, and of the full human voice,” the group wrote in a statement. “Some of us have been making this music for many decades, and that history still shapes us.”
“I would never even consider performing in a venue bearing a name (and being controlled by the kind of board) that represents overt racism and deliberate destruction of African American music and culture,” Billy Harper, a saxophonist in the group, reportedly added in a statement to Jazz Stage.
The Doug Varone and Dancers troupe on Monday added that it will not carry out a planned April performance at the center.
The group wrote in a statement on Instagram that while it opposed the president’s decision to replace the center’s bipartisan board in February with a group of allies who later installed him as chairman, it initially still planned to carry out the engagement. That changed when center’s board voted earlier this month to rebrand the institution the Trump-Kennedy Center, according to the statement.
“We can no longer permit ourselves nor ask our audiences to step inside this once great institution,” the statement said. “The Kennedy Center was named in honor of our 35th President who fervently believed that the arts were the beating heart of our nation, as well as an integral part of international diplomacy. The current bylaws, obtained by The Washington Post, were revised in May to specify that board members designated by Congress — known as ex officio members — could not vote or count toward a quorum. Legal experts say the move may conflict with the institution’s charter.
Trump took over the Kennedy Center in February, purging its board of members he had not appointed. The months that followed saw struggling ticket sales and programming changes that began to align the arts complex with the Trump administration’s broader cultural aims, culminating with the annual Kennedy Center Honors hosted by the president.

A former Kennedy Center staffer with knowledge of board proceedings, who spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear of retribution, told The Post that ex officio members were “always included in debate and discussion” during their tenure, but the person did not recall a time when those members’ votes were counted.
“Theoretically they could vote, but our practice was not to have them vote or count toward quorum,” the person said, noting they were not aware of the new leadership’s practices at the center.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials are planning to spend $100 million over a one-year period to recruit gun-rights supporters and military enthusiasts through online influencers and a geo-targeted advertising campaign, part of what the agency called a “wartime recruitment” strategy it said was critical to hiring thousands of new deportation officers nationwide, according to an internal document reviewed by The Washington Post.
The spending would help President Donald Trump’s mass-deportation agenda dominate media networks and recruitment channels, including through ads targeting people who have attended UFC fights, listened to patriotic podcasts or shown an interest in guns and tactical gear, according to a 30-page document distributed among officials in this summer detailing ICE’s “surge hiring marketing strategy.”

The Department of Homeland Security has spoken publicly about its fast-tracked effort to significantly increase ICE’s workforce by hiring more than 10,000 new employees, a surge promoted on social media with calls for recruits willing to perform their “sacred duty” and “defend the homeland” by repelling “foreign invaders.” The agency currently employs more than 20,000 people, according to ICE’s website.
But the document, reported here for the first time, reveals new details about the vast scale of the recruitment effort and its unconventional strategy to “flood the market” with millions of dollars in spending for Snapchat ads, influencers and live streamers on Rumble, a video platform popular with conservatives. Under the strategy, ICE would also use an ad-industry technique known as “geofencing” to send ads to the phone web browsers and social media feeds of anyone who set foot near military bases, NASCAR races, college campuses or gun and trade shows.
The document was also distributed among ICE officials in the days after the agency published a request for bids seeking contractors who could use “precise audience targeting, performance media management, and results-driven creative strategies” to “accelerate the achievement of [its] recruiting goals.” The language in the published bid closely mirrored language in the strategy document. That same month, DHS awarded two marketing firms nearly $40 million to support ICE’s public affairs office “recruitment campaign,” according to federal awards data.
It’s unclear how much of the spending and strategy have been carried out. But the plans outlined in the document have coincided with a rush of recruitment ads online seeking Americans who will “answer the call to serve.”
The rapid-recruitment approach is unlike anything ICE has ever pursued, said Sarah Saldaña, a director of ICE during the Obama administration, who recalled the agency filling its open positions through local police departments and sheriff’s offices with appeals to officers’ interests in federal public-safety work.

The hallmark of the first year of President Donald J. Trump’s second term has been the attempt of the president and his cronies to dismantle the constitutional system set up by the framers of that document when they established the United States of America. It’s not simply that they have broken the laws. They have acted as if the laws, and the Constitution that underpins them, don’t exist.
As soon as the 2024 election results were clear, billionaire Elon Musk, who had supported Trump’s campaign both through his purchase of Twitter—now X—and with $290 million in cash, posted on social media: “Novus Ordo Seclorum,” Latin for “New World Order.” Although he won with less than 50% of the vote, Trump announced that he had an “unprecedented and powerful mandate.” Musk would head a new “Department of Government Efficiency” that Musk vowed would cut at least $2 trillion from the federal budget.
Musk and his operatives muscled their way into government offices and gained access to computer systems. With strokes of a keyboard they eliminated jobs and programs, including, as Musk put it, feeding “into the wood chipper” most of the U.S. Agency for International Development, the government agency aimed at combating disease and malnutrition around the globe. That dismantling has caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people.
The Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank, recently concluded that while the Department of Government Efficiency did not actually reduce spending, it did cut almost 10% of federal employees, a key goal of Office of Management and Budget director Russell Vought, a key author of Project 2025.
And, crucially, it put operatives in virtually all government departments and agencies, where they gained access to privileged information about Americans, including citizens, legal residents, and undocumented immigrants.
Musk and DOGE also established the idea that the unelected officials in the Trump administration could do whatever they wished, without regard to the laws or the Constitution. The Constitution, judicial precedent, and the 1974 Impoundment Control Act all make it very clear that the power of the purse belongs to Congress. As the elected representatives of the American people, only members of the House of Representatives and the Senate can determine how the nation’s money is spent. Then the president must “take Care that the laws be faithfully executed.”
Democrats objected to the administration’s dramatic usurpation of the power of Congress, but Republicans did not complain. Most backed the administration’s claims it was eliminating “waste, fraud, and abuse.”
Although Republicans controlled both chambers of Congress, meaning that Trump should have been able to get any legislation he wanted, he continued to try to get around the Constitution by declaring nine “emergencies” that would permit him to act without congressional oversight. This reliance on emergencies reflected the ideas of Nazi political theorist Carl Schmitt, whose writings were followed by right-wing leaders, including billionaire Peter Thiel and the man who influenced him, Curtis Yarvin. Schmitt argued that power belongs to the leader who can exploit emergencies that create exceptions to the constitutional order, enabling him to exercise power without regard to the law.

“We took the freedom of speech away.”
That was part of President Trump’s explanation in October of his executive order that purports to criminalize burning the American flag. Though his words fail as a constitutional rationale, they inadvertently distill many of his efforts at smothering dissent during the past 11 months.
Since returning to office, Mr. Trump and his administration have tried to undermine the First Amendment, suppress information that he and his supporters don’t like and hamstring parts of the academic, legal and private sectors through lawsuits and coercion — to flood the zone, as his ally, Steve Bannon, might say.
Some examples are well known, such as when ABC briefly took Jimmy Kimmel off the air after Brendan Carr, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, objected to a reference in one of Mr. Kimmel’s monologues about the killing of Charlie Kirk. Other examples received less attention, but by my count, this year there were about 200 instances of administration attempts at censorship, nearly all of which I outline in a new report.
Mr. Trump’s playbook isn’t random. It employs several recurring modes of attack.
The president has tried to cow the press. His administration banned Associated Press reporters from certain parts of the White House and Air Force One because the outlet uses “Gulf of Mexico” rather than the term Mr. Trump prefers, “Gulf of America.” It tried and failed to force some of the nation’s biggest news organizations to agree to restrictions on coverage of the Pentagon. He has said critical coverage of his initiatives is “really illegal.”
A journalist from El Salvador, Mario Guevara, was arrested while reporting on a No Kings protest in Georgia; he was detained for more than three months, then deported. At an Oval Office meeting between Mr. Trump and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, an ABC News correspondent, Mary Bruce, asked about the killing of the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi and about the Jeffrey Epstein files. Mr. Trump replied by berating her at length, at one point describing one of her questions as “insubordinate” — a characterization that upends the entire notion of a free press.
The administration has used immigration status to try to suppress political speech. In March, Mahmoud Khalil, a green card holder and a leader of pro-Palestinian demonstrations on the Columbia campus, was arrested and detained by immigration officials for several months. That month, Rumeysa Ozturk, a student visa holder, was arrested by immigration officials and detained for several weeks, apparently because she was an author of an opinion essay criticizing Tufts University for its response to the Israel-Hamas war.
It seems almost no one is beyond the scope of administration efforts to muzzle views or decisions that conflict with Mr. Trump’s agenda: After Federal District Court Judge James Boasberg ruled against the administration in a case involving the deportation of Venezuelans to El Salvador, Mr. Trump called for the judge to be impeached. A trainee was dismissed from the F.B.I.’s academy, apparently for having displayed an L.G.B.T.Q. Pride flag. The F.B.I. also appears to have fired agents for kneeling during George Floyd protests.

The U.S. government believed the site was used by members of Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua to store and ship drugs overseas, according to CNN.
No one was present at the port at the time of the strike, according to the network’s source. Still, the operation allegedly destroyed the facility, even if it represented just one of many such docks along Venezuela’s coastline that might be used by smugglers. The strike is the first known U.S. operation inside the country.
President Donald Trump appeared to acknowledge the operation during an interview Friday, saying U.S. military assets struck a “big facility where ships come from.”
Asked again on Monday, the president said American forces had attacked “the dock area where they load the boats up with drugs.”
“So we hit all the boats, and now we hit the area,” the president added. “It’s the implementation area, that’s where they implement, and that is no longer around.” [….]

President Donald Trump has thrust the country into a significant new phase in his showdown with Venezuela with a CIA strike on a port facility.
But as he approaches grave new decisions on even greater escalations, his team has not yet spelled out a clear consistent public rationale for its actions.
Nor has it prepared the country for what might come next.
Top officials haven’t explained how long the massive naval buildup in the Caribbean will last or what US service members will be asked to do in an operation that is already raising legal and constitutional alarms.
Neither Trump nor his top foreign policy aides have sketched a preferred endgame for the confrontation, which has climbed a ladder of escalation: from diplomatic pressure to strikes against alleged drug-trafficking boatsin the Caribbean to a blockade against oil tankers to, now, a land attack.
If the goal really is to overthrow President Nicolás Maduro, as recent comments from top officials and the logic of the deployment imply, there’s been no White House effort to show Americans the administration is planning for the aftermath. This is an especially relevant point given the quagmires that developed after US military action to topple the rulers of Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya.
Trump doesn’t recognize any responsibility to inform the American people of is plans, if there are any. He sees himself as a dictator.

If they don’t, Smith continued, “What is Trump prepared to do next? How far is he willing to take this effort at regime change in Venezuela?”
Perhaps Trump’s fogginess is deliberate. If the buildup and steady escalations are part of a psychological operations campaign to wrong-foot Maduro or to persuade his regime cronies they’d be safer without him, confusion and disorientation could act as weapons. Even from the outside, it’s obvious the CIA strike on the port facility — in which, sources said, no one was killed — is a performative warning that far greater US capabilities can be brought to bear.
Yet the more serious the situation gets — especially now the US has crossed the threshold into land attacks — the more acute is the obligation to inform Americans of the administration’s plans. The founders never envisaged presidents being able to wage war on a whim. And large and intractable conflicts have sometimes started with discrete actions that mushroom into consequences that can cascade out of control. Take Vietnam as an example.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials are planning to spend $100 million over a one-year period to recruit gun-rights supporters and military enthusiasts through online influencers and a geo-targeted advertising campaign, part of what the agency called a “wartime recruitment” strategy it said was critical to hiring thousands of new deportation officers nationwide, according to an internal document reviewed by The Washington Post.
The spending would help President Donald Trump’s mass-deportation agenda dominate media networks and recruitment channels, including through ads targeting people who have attended UFC fights, listened to patriotic podcasts or shown an interest in guns and tactical gear, according to a 30-page document distributed among officials in this summer detailing ICE’s “surge hiring marketing strategy.”

The Department of Homeland Security has spoken publicly about its fast-tracked effort to significantly increase ICE’s workforce by hiring more than 10,000 new employees, a surge promoted on social media with calls for recruits willing to perform their “sacred duty” and “defend the homeland” by repelling “foreign invaders.” The agency currently employs more than 20,000 people, according to ICE’s website.
But the document, reported here for the first time, reveals new details about the vast scale of the recruitment effort and its unconventional strategy to “flood the market” with millions of dollars in spending for Snapchat ads, influencers and live streamers on Rumble, a video platform popular with conservatives. Under the strategy, ICE would also use an ad-industry technique known as “geofencing” to send ads to the phone web browsers and social media feeds of anyone who set foot near military bases, NASCAR races, college campuses or gun and trade shows.
The document was also distributed among ICE officials in the days after the agency published a request for bids seeking contractors who could use “precise audience targeting, performance media management, and results-driven creative strategies” to “accelerate the achievement of [its] recruiting goals.” The language in the published bid closely mirrored language in the strategy document. That same month, DHS awarded two marketing firms nearly $40 million to support ICE’s public affairs office “recruitment campaign,” according to federal awards data.
It’s unclear how much of the spending and strategy have been carried out. But the plans outlined in the document have coincided with a rush of recruitment ads online seeking Americans who will “answer the call to serve.”
The rapid-recruitment approach is unlike anything ICE has ever pursued, said Sarah Saldaña, a director of ICE during the Obama administration, who recalled the agency filling its open positions through local police departments and sheriff’s offices with appeals to officers’ interests in federal public-safety work.

Trump wants to cancel the Constitution

The hallmark of the first year of President Donald J. Trump’s second term has been the attempt of the president and his cronies to dismantle the constitutional system set up by the framers of that document when they established the United States of America. It’s not simply that they have broken the laws. They have acted as if the laws, and the Constitution that underpins them, don’t exist.
As soon as the 2024 election results were clear, billionaire Elon Musk, who had supported Trump’s campaign both through his purchase of Twitter—now X—and with $290 million in cash, posted on social media: “Novus Ordo Seclorum,” Latin for “New World Order.” Although he won with less than 50% of the vote, Trump announced that he had an “unprecedented and powerful mandate.” Musk would head a new “Department of Government Efficiency” that Musk vowed would cut at least $2 trillion from the federal budget.
Musk and his operatives muscled their way into government offices and gained access to computer systems. With strokes of a keyboard they eliminated jobs and programs, including, as Musk put it, feeding “into the wood chipper” most of the U.S. Agency for International Development, the government agency aimed at combating disease and malnutrition around the globe. That dismantling has caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people.
The Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank, recently concluded that while the Department of Government Efficiency did not actually reduce spending, it did cut almost 10% of federal employees, a key goal of Office of Management and Budget director Russell Vought, a key author of Project 2025.
And, crucially, it put operatives in virtually all government departments and agencies, where they gained access to privileged information about Americans, including citizens, legal residents, and undocumented immigrants.
Musk and DOGE also established the idea that the unelected officials in the Trump administration could do whatever they wished, without regard to the laws or the Constitution. The Constitution, judicial precedent, and the 1974 Impoundment Control Act all make it very clear that the power of the purse belongs to Congress. As the elected representatives of the American people, only members of the House of Representatives and the Senate can determine how the nation’s money is spent. Then the president must “take Care that the laws be faithfully executed.”
Democrats objected to the administration’s dramatic usurpation of the power of Congress, but Republicans did not complain. Most backed the administration’s claims it was eliminating “waste, fraud, and abuse.”
Although Republicans controlled both chambers of Congress, meaning that Trump should have been able to get any legislation he wanted, he continued to try to get around the Constitution by declaring nine “emergencies” that would permit him to act without congressional oversight. This reliance on emergencies reflected the ideas of Nazi political theorist Carl Schmitt, whose writings were followed by right-wing leaders, including billionaire Peter Thiel and the man who influenced him, Curtis Yarvin. Schmitt argued that power belongs to the leader who can exploit emergencies that create exceptions to the constitutional order, enabling him to exercise power without regard to the law.

“We took the freedom of speech away.”
That was part of President Trump’s explanation in October of his executive order that purports to criminalize burning the American flag. Though his words fail as a constitutional rationale, they inadvertently distill many of his efforts at smothering dissent during the past 11 months.
Since returning to office, Mr. Trump and his administration have tried to undermine the First Amendment, suppress information that he and his supporters don’t like and hamstring parts of the academic, legal and private sectors through lawsuits and coercion — to flood the zone, as his ally, Steve Bannon, might say.
Some examples are well known, such as when ABC briefly took Jimmy Kimmel off the air after Brendan Carr, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, objected to a reference in one of Mr. Kimmel’s monologues about the killing of Charlie Kirk. Other examples received less attention, but by my count, this year there were about 200 instances of administration attempts at censorship, nearly all of which I outline in a new report.
Mr. Trump’s playbook isn’t random. It employs several recurring modes of attack.
The president has tried to cow the press. His administration banned Associated Press reporters from certain parts of the White House and Air Force One because the outlet uses “Gulf of Mexico” rather than the term Mr. Trump prefers, “Gulf of America.” It tried and failed to force some of the nation’s biggest news organizations to agree to restrictions on coverage of the Pentagon. He has said critical coverage of his initiatives is “really illegal.”
A journalist from El Salvador, Mario Guevara, was arrested while reporting on a No Kings protest in Georgia; he was detained for more than three months, then deported. At an Oval Office meeting between Mr. Trump and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, an ABC News correspondent, Mary Bruce, asked about the killing of the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi and about the Jeffrey Epstein files. Mr. Trump replied by berating her at length, at one point describing one of her questions as “insubordinate” — a characterization that upends the entire notion of a free press.
The administration has used immigration status to try to suppress political speech. In March, Mahmoud Khalil, a green card holder and a leader of pro-Palestinian demonstrations on the Columbia campus, was arrested and detained by immigration officials for several months. That month, Rumeysa Ozturk, a student visa holder, was arrested by immigration officials and detained for several weeks, apparently because she was an author of an opinion essay criticizing Tufts University for its response to the Israel-Hamas war.
It seems almost no one is beyond the scope of administration efforts to muzzle views or decisions that conflict with Mr. Trump’s agenda: After Federal District Court Judge James Boasberg ruled against the administration in a case involving the deportation of Venezuelans to El Salvador, Mr. Trump called for the judge to be impeached. A trainee was dismissed from the F.B.I.’s academy, apparently for having displayed an L.G.B.T.Q. Pride flag. The F.B.I. also appears to have fired agents for kneeling during George Floyd protests.

Bueno, obviamente, qué es el INDEP, qué hace, de dónde obtiene los bienes que se subastan posteriormente. Y por supuesto, que todos estos recursos que se obtienen de las subastas de estos bienes confiscados se destinan, en este caso lo vamos a destinar a temas de salud en los municipios que más lo necesitan en el país. Entonces, ella nos va a presentar esto.
Y está Rosa Icela Rodríguez, secretaria de Gobernación, porque parte de lo incautado va al llamado “Tianguis del Bienestar”. Entonces, nos va a platicar en dónde ha habido Tianguis del Bienestar, en dónde se han regalado estos bienes que se incautan, en particular en aduanas, por contrabando o a alguna mala operación o mala entrada, digamos, una entrada ilegal de bienes a nuestro país.

VOZ MUJER: ¿Sabes qué es el INDEP? El Instituto para Devolver al Pueblo lo Robado, fiel a su creación en el año 2020, es un organismo público del Gobierno Federal que administra y da destino con una perspectiva social y Austeridad Republicana a los bienes activos y empresas improductivas para el Estado que han sido decomisados o abandonados, con el objetivo de devolver a la sociedad los recursos obtenidos de actividades ilícitas o corrupción.
Actualmente, el INDEP reitera su compromiso para dar un nuevo enfoque a la administración, registro y destino de los bienes. Cada bien administrado por el INDEP se traduce en bienestar para las mayorías.
Una de las actividades del Instituto es realizar subastas en sus diversas modalidades.
Atendiendo las instrucciones de la Presidenta de la República, la Doctora Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, siempre con un enfoque social, se apoya a las comunidades con mayor rezago, a los que menos tienen, generando recursos y otorgando apoyos que contribuyan a una mejor calidad de vida.
Así, a través de las diferentes donaciones a estados y municipios, por medio del Tianguis de Bienestar se atienden las demandas de justicia social.
También, el INDEP canaliza apoyos económicos a través del Gabinete Social de la Presidencia de la República que se utiliza para distintos proyectos prioritarios en todo el país, contribuyendo así con el desarrollo económico de México.

DIRECTORA GENERAL DEL INSTITUTO PARA DEVOLVER AL PUEBLO LO ROBADO (INDEP), MÓNICA FERNÁNDEZ BALBOA: Muy buenos días. Con su permiso, señora Presidenta. Buenos días a todas y a todos. Señora, secretaria, compañeras, compañeros.
Como acabamos de ver en este video, el INDEP, el Instituto para Devolver al Pueblo lo Robado, se crea en el 2020 con esa finalidad que acaba de explicar la Presidenta: con que todos los bienes y los activos que han sido decomisados y arrebatados al crimen, a la delincuencia, puedan ser destinados para beneficio y el bienestar del pueblo de México a través de diferentes acciones, de diferentes programas, y uno de ellos es las subastas del INDEP.
En ese sentido, nuestra Presidenta nos ha instruido de forma muy precisa hacer una revisión exhaustiva de nuestros procesos, para poder implementar acciones que nos permitan generar recursos en la legalidad y transparencia para cumplir con este objetivo.
Además de las acciones como la que encabeza nuestra secretaria de Gobernación del Tianguis del Bienestar y de “Sí al Desarme y Sí a la Paz”, estamos también haciendo estos procesos de comercialización que hoy les estamos presentando.
En primer término, explicarles que los bienes que nosotros tenemos para subastar y para los procesos de comercialización tienen su origen en procesos judiciales —como lo acabamos de decir—: embargos, decomisos de la delincuencia, de lo que han sido desde hace muchos años; también los crímenes y delitos, ya sea de cuello blanco, ya sea fiscales, del crimen organizado, etcétera.
Hoy hacemos una primera subasta con estos bienes que hemos podido revisar, y percatarnos y cerciorarnos de que estén libres de procesos judiciales todavía en curso, de que estén en buenas condiciones, que cubran con todos los requisitos.
Y a partir de mañana se publica en los medios de comunicación y en la página, en el portal subastas.indep.gob.mx todas las bases de venta y la convocatoria formal, para que desde mañana arranque la subasta.
Aquí en la subasta podemos encontrar muchos bienes de diferente naturaleza: terrenos, casas habitación, locales comerciales, vehículos, joyas y muchos más con estos orígenes que acabamos de mencionar.
Estos bienes —como les decimos— son de diferente naturaleza, y encontramos vehículos, vehículos de alta gama, vehículos modestos, vehículos blindados, casas, residencias, locales, incluso hasta marcas que les han sido retiradas a personas que han incumplido con la ley.
¿Cómo participar en la subasta?
Para participar en la subasta en línea lo primero que hay que hacer es inscribirse en el registro único del INDEP para poder tener, digamos, un nombre y un usuario para poder participar en las subastas. Hay que consultar las bases, la convocatoria y las bases de venta en la página.
Entrar. Inmediatamente, a partir de mañana, pueden ya entrar al listado de los bienes que se están subastando en esta ocasión, que van a corresponder a 218 bienes inmuebles y 145 mil 429 bienes muebles, además de algunos activos financieros.
Una vez que uno ya decide por qué quiere participar, en qué bienes quiere participar, tiene que, bueno, hace clic en la página y lo mandan inmediatamente, le mandan un correo donde le dan una liga para pagar la garantía.
Para poder participar y que sea serio, hay garantías que se pagan en cada una de las modalidades, sean bienes muebles o bienes inmuebles. Y se paga esta garantía que, al final, si no resulta ganador de la subasta, se devuelve esta garantía; en caso contrario, bueno, se toma a cuenta de todo el pago que se va a ir haciendo. Y a partir de eso, puede realizar las ofertas.
Quiero decirles, señora Presidenta, que en el tema este de los registros, a partir… Abrimos una fase de revisión de todas las personas que estaban registradas en el sistema y abrimos una fase de actualización. Se registraron más de… casi 7 mil personas al día de hoy; y hay otros 6 mil 400 que están en proceso, que no han terminado su acreditación para poder participar.
Cualquier persona física o moral pueden inscribirse en el registro único, es muy sencillo, solo deben de entrar a la página que dice registrounico.indep.gob.mx en el apartado “Regístrate aquí”.
Y los documentos o la información que se pide es también muy sencilla: es la identificación oficial, la CURP, el comprobante de domicilio, la Constancia de Situación Fiscal. Y en caso de que deseen participar como empresa, es su Acta Constitutiva o su Poder Notarial
Esto es uno de los ejemplos de los bienes que estamos subastando: esta es una casa habitación, que es una residencia muy grande, muy conocida, además, allá en Zapopán, que tiene tres niveles, cochera para cuatro automóviles, 5 recámaras, baño, oficina, comedor. Tiene un precio de salida alto porque es una gran residencia.
Aquí hay algunos detalles de estas viviendas: tiene acabados de lujo; está resguardada, por supuesto; tienen todos los bienes que tenemos en administración en el INDEP, se les tiene que dar una administración, se tiene que dar seguridad, y por eso es que vemos que los bienes están en muy buenas condiciones, además de que se ha verificado su estatus legal y que cumplan con todos los requisitos.
Esto es un vehículo blindado, es un camionetón muy grande.
Están en muy buen estado.
También hay bienes que no necesariamente son nuevos o están en estos estados tan aptos, pero también tienen un mercado, que hay también usuarios que solicitan la subasta de bienes que no estén en tan óptimas condiciones.
Esto es otro tipo de bienes que también tenemos en esta subasta. Esto es una motoniveladora, está en Zacatecas. Los precios —como ustedes pueden ver— son muy por debajo de sus precios en el mercado. Y están en muy buenas condiciones también.
Esto es otra casa en Guanajuato. Es un terreno, perdón, un terreno urbano con una construcción que tiene cochera. Es un lugar y es un terreno muy apto, en muy buen estado, en muy buenas condiciones, está bien la ubicación; entonces, también cumple con los requisitos para poderlo subastar.
Tenemos también carros y vehículos de alta gama. Estos son algunas muestras de los que estamos enseñando, esto es un Camaro. Y los precios de salida son muy accesibles. Estos son los datos.

Y además, si quieren visitar alguno de los muebles o de los inmuebles para verificar, ir personalmente, también en la página se señala cómo pueden hacer el contacto para ir a los almacenes o ir a los inmuebles y hacer la verificación que se quiera hacer.
Y prácticamente eso es todo, señora Presidenta.
Decirle que reconocemos a Aduanas, al SAT y a la Fiscalía por el esfuerzo y que nos mandan las cosas este para poder cumplir con esto. Y ahorita están mandando más cosas que nunca, con trabajo nos damos abasto, pero estamos listos.

SECRETARIA DE GOBERNACIÓN, ROSA ICELA RODRÍGUEZ VELÁZQUEZ: Con su permiso, Presidenta. Muy buenos días a todas y a todos. Muy buenos días a la subsecretaria y a la directora.
Hoy, por instrucción de la Presidenta Claudia Sheinbaum, estamos aquí para informar los resultados del programa Tianguis del Bienestar. Esta actividad, el Gobierno de México es parte del eje de Atención a las causas que originan la violencia y tiene como propósito devolverle a la población lo que por derecho le corresponde.
Una de las variables que se consideraron para elegir a los municipios de este programa es la marginación.
Es la Presidenta quien nos ha pedido, a todos los servidores públicos, atender a la población en territorio para llevar bienestar a quien más apoyo se requiere con humanismo y solidaridad.
Tenemos claro que la prioridad son los más necesitados, que se encuentran a veces en las regiones más apartadas del país. Por eso, la exigencia de contribuir entre todos a mejorar las condiciones de vida de la población y a disminuir las desigualdades.
Con ese propósito, del 3 de junio pasado a la fecha, llevamos más de un millón 463 mil bienes nuevos incautados en aduanas o —como aquí lo explicó la directora general del INDEP— en otros lugares, siempre incautados a la delincuencia organizada o a la delincuencia de cuello blanco, así como 63.2 toneladas de artículos se entregaron a más de 35 mil 700 familias.
Para ello, se visitaron 16 municipios en los estados de Guerrero y Oaxaca, en esta ocasión; y llegamos a 74 comunidades cuyos habitantes en pobreza o fueron afectados por el huracán Erick.
Solo en Guerrero atendimos La Montaña, visitamos 6 municipios: Cuajinicuilapa, San Nicolás, Ometepec, Metlatónoc y Cochoapa el Grande; y también, en otra zona, Acapulco, algunas colonias.
Y hay que decir que, como ustedes saben, el caso de Metlatónoc y Cochoapa el Grande figuran como municipios que tienen… son los más marginados del país, con pobreza; ahí estuvimos en 15 comunidades donde fueron beneficiadas 22 mil 204 familias.
En tanto que, en Oaxaca, visitamos 10 municipios: Santiago Tapextla, Santo Domingo Armenta, Santiago Llano Grande, San José Estancia Grande, Santiago Pinotepa Nacional, Santiago Jamiltepec, Villa Tututepec, San Juan Bautista Lo de Soto, Santa María Huazolotitlán y Mártires de Tacubaya.
Llevamos artículos nuevos y de primera necesidad a 13 mil 593 familias de 59 comunidades o agencias de la costa de Oaxaca, en lugares de difícil acceso por las afectaciones del huracán.
Estuvimos ahí donde estuvo la Presidenta Claudia Sheinbaum: en Corralero, en La Palma, en Los Hornos Pajaritos, El Ciruelo, El Tamarindo, Lagunillas, El Ranchito, El Vizcaíno, El Conejo, Motillas, El Tamal, Lo de Riaño, Banco de Oro, La Noria y El Jícaro, solo por mencionar algunas. Ahí entregamos a la población los artículos nuevos incautados que permanecían almacenados.
Y así vamos a continuar hasta cumplir con la instrucción de la Presidenta para entregar bienes de manera gratuita a la gente que más lo necesita.
Con este fin se ha hecho todo un despliegue de personal de distintas dependencias del Gobierno de México, encabezadas por la maestra Rocío Bárcena, subsecretaria de Construcción de Paz.
Así, personal de la Secretaría de Gobernación, de la Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional, de la Guardia Nacional; de la Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público a través del Servicio de Administración Tributaria, así como del Instituto para Devolver al Pueblo lo Robado; de la Secretaría Anticorrupción, que también siempre está presente; y de la Administración General de Aduanas. Además, siempre agradecer el apoyo de los estados y los municipios visitados.
Agradecer a todas y a todos, su compromiso con esta labor que realizan con convicción servidoras y servidores públicos, con profesionalismo, para llevar bienestar a quienes más lo requieren.
Decir que, en estos días Presidenta, estamos enfocados en la recolección de bienes para continuar y acudir, del 4 al 6 de agosto, con el Tianguis de Bienestar a Ayutla de los Libres; y, del 7 al 8 de agosto, a Tlapa de Comonfort, ambos municipios de Guerrero. Ahí también atenderemos a familias.
Con acciones como esta, el Gobierno de México sigue reiterando en los hechos que el centro de sus políticas públicas es mejorar la condición de vida de las familias, sobre todo, de las que menos tienen, yendo con la línea clara de la Presidenta Claudia Sheinbaum: “Por el bien de todos, primero los pobres”.

VOZ MUJER: En poco más de un mes, el Tianguis del Bienestar ha recorrido municipios de alta vulnerabilidad, incluidos aquellos afectados por el huracán “Erick” en Guerrero y Oaxaca
Ante la esperanza que surge de la adversidad, a las familias que vieron interrumpido su ritmo de vida les decimos: ¡Aquí está su gobierno, no están solas y no están solos!
Servidoras y servidores públicos han entregado de manera gratuita artículos nuevos y de primera necesidad a 35 mil 797 familias de municipios de Guerrero: en Acapulco, Cuajinicuilapa, San Nicolás, Ometepec, Metlatónoc y Cochoapa el Grande.
Y Oaxaca: en Santiago Tapextla, Santo Domingo Armenta, Santiago Llano Grande, San José Estancia Grande, Pinotepa Nacional, Santiago Jamiltepec, Villa Tututepec, San Juan Bautista Lo de Soto, Santa María Huazolotitlán y Mártires de Tacubaya.
Ropa, calzado, enseres domésticos y telas fueron recibidos por mujeres, hombres, jóvenes, niñas y niños. En su mayoría, los productos entregados han sido decomisados a la delincuencia o confiscados en las aduanas.
Sumado a esta acción, personal de la Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional realiza labor social, brindando servicios de atención médica y odontológica, así como cortes de cabello, reparación de herrería, electricidad y carpintería; asimismo retiraron escombros de caminos dañados.
La estrategia es coordinada por la Secretaría de Gobernación y participan: la Defensa y la Guardia Nacional, la Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público a través del Servicio de Administración Tributaria, el Instituto para Devolver al Pueblo lo Robado, y la Administración General de Aduanas, la Secretaría Anticorrupción y Buen Gobierno, así como autoridades estatales y municipales.
Un gobierno humanista, como el de la Presidenta Claudia Sheinbaum, tiene la convicción de mejorar las condiciones y calidad de vida de los que menos tienen.
El Tianguis del Bienestar es solidaridad, es humanismo, es justicia social.

PREGUNTA: Gracias, Presidenta. Buenos días. Shaila Rosagel, corresponsal de Grupo Healy: El Imparcial, de Sonora; La Crónica, de Mexicali, y Frontera, de Tijuana.
Presidenta, me gustaría preguntarle, en un en un primer tema, un tema de San Quintín, en Baja California, un lamentable feminicidio que sucedió ahí en San Quintín, de la niña, adolescente, Keila Nicole, de 14 años: otro adolescente de 16 años, bueno, cometió un crimen terrible, desmembró a esta niña.
Entonces, en Baja California ha habido inquietud porque hay quienes consideran, por el impacto del crimen en sí, de la de la jovencita, que este hecho debería de ser procesado como un adulto, no como un menor.
Me gustaría saber su opinión.
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Nosotros estamos de acuerdo con la manera en que… Es decir, criminalizar desde más jóvenes no resuelve el problema. Hay una legislación que establece, frente a un crimen mayor, cuál es la responsabilidad de la persona, aunque sea menor de edad.
San Quintín es una zona en donde ahora vamos a intervenir de manera integral. San Quintín principalmente está dedicado a la producción agrícola, a partir de jornaleros agrícolas que migran; algunos se quedan 6 meses, algunos se quedan más o menos tiempo.
¿Por qué me refiero a esto?
Porque una parte tiene que ver, evidentemente, con la responsabilidad personal frente a un crimen y que tiene que ser juzgado por las autoridades judiciales, pero la otra parte tiene que ver con un problema social que hay en particular en San Quintín y en otros lugares.
Y no se trata de estigmatizar a un lugar, sino sencillamente de describir que son zonas en el país que han crecido, a partir del trabajo de los jornaleros agrícolas.
Es una zona, por ejemplo, de alta exportación de cherries y de otros productos. Tienen ingresos muy altos por la exportación, quien se dedica a la exportación y, sin embargo, los trabajadores no viven en las mejores condiciones. Y todavía hay muchos esquemas de contratación que no son formales.
Ahí hay un hospital que se está terminando de lo que era IMSS Coplamar, que ahora regresó al IMSS.
Se van a hacer guarderías.
Se están fortaleciendo las escuelas.
Ya la Secretaría de Bienestar está haciendo un censo en San Quintín casa por casa, para saber quiénes son migrantes, de qué grupo o de qué pueblo indígena vienen, y poder hacer una intervención integral en esta zona del país, particularmente, Baja California, igual que lo vamos a hacer en otros lugares.
Entonces, por supuesto que hay que atender el tema judicial, pero, además, hay que atender de manera profunda la situación de vida en San Quintín y en otros lugares dedicados principalmente a la agricultura, a partir de jornaleros agrícolas migrantes. Porque finalmente una condición así puede generar un ambiente de descomposición social.
PREGUNTA: Muchas gracias, Presidenta.
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Hay que apoyar a las familias, eso es a lo que nos referimos cuando decimos: hay que atender la causa más profunda de una situación de violencia.
PREGUNTA: Muchas gracias, Presidenta.
En otro tema, en entrevista con la Red por los Derechos de la Infancia en México, a raíz del asesinato de las tres niñas en Hermosillo, nos indican que en su análisis: la Secretaría de Salud en su registro de lesiones a menores de edad muestran un aumento, de 2021 a 2022; ellos, de REDIM, dicen que son las últimas cifras que han podido revisar, este aumento es de 14 por ciento, de casos que llegan a los hospitales, o sea, los casos que ya no se pueden ocultar, que llegan con lesiones.
¿Podría darnos la Secretaría de Salud los datos más actuales de este tema de lesiones a menores?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Sí, cómo no.
PREGUNTA: Y bueno, REDIM también señala que, de acuerdo con el Secretariado Ejecutivo, en el país son asesinados con arma de fuego 60 menores al mes. Ellos dicen que ha bajado en este sexenio, porque en el sexenio anterior eran 64 en promedio al mes.
Preguntarle: ¿qué le ha informado el Gabinete de Seguridad sobre lo que usted les pidió revisar luego de este asesinato de las tres niñas? Recuerdo que usted comentó que les pidió que se revisaran las cifras y todo esto.
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Las vamos a presentar aquí la próxima vez que venga el Gabinete de Seguridad. Sí ha disminuido, pero… Cualquier, cualquier homicidio es lamentable, pero, particularmente, cuando se trata de un menor de edad vinculado con actos de violencia es más doloroso, y nuestro objetivo tiene que ser que eso se erradique.
Y tiene que ver con la atención integral; por supuesto, tiene que ver también con el tema de violencia familiar.
Entonces, lo estamos trabajando.
Lo que presentó aquí Citlalli, que tiene que ver con violencia a las mujeres o contra las mujeres, pero también contra niños y niñas que se está haciendo en los Centros LIBREs es muy importante. Nuestro objetivo es que cada municipio del país tenga un Centro LIBRE para que una mujer se pueda acercar a tener apoyo, ayuda, incluso en la denuncia.
Mañana vamos a presentar ya a las abogadas de las mujeres que van a estar trabajando para poder apoyar a las mujeres en su denuncia y en el seguimiento de su denuncia, además de todo el trabajo que se está haciendo con Ministerios Públicos.
Pero el objetivo es tener una red de apoyo a partir de los Centros LIBREs, más el número de teléfono de denuncia de violencia contra las mujeres y contra los niños y las niñas.

PREGUNTA: Hola, Presidenta. Buenos días. Gaspar Vela, de Grupo Milenio.
Presidenta, estamos a una semana de que entren en vigor estos aranceles de 30 por ciento anunciados por el presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump.
¿Qué escenarios —preguntarle—qué escenarios está alistando su gobierno en caso de una eventual entrada en vigor?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: No, pues… Estamos haciendo todo para que no entren en vigor.
Entonces, hay un equipo trabajando en Estados Unidos con la Secretaría de Comercio, del Tesoro, e hicimos una serie de propuestas que tienen que ver con el Plan México y también con disminuir el déficit comercial, que es una de las preocupaciones del presidente Trump; se puede disminuir el déficit comercial a partir de distintos mecanismos que no afecten a la economía de México.
Entonces, hemos estado haciendo una serie de propuestas y ya las presentamos aquí, esperando que lleguemos a un acuerdo.
PREGUNTA: ¿Buscaría alguna comunicación con el presidente de los Estados Unidos, previo a…?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Si es necesario, sí, la próxima semana. Vamos a ver si los equipos pueden encontrar un acuerdo. Pero estamos buscando esquemas que no… que puedan obtener los mismos resultados.
Al presidente Trump… La economía de México durante, desde el Tratado de Libre Comercio, el primer Tratado, y después el T-MEC, en mucho se dedicó a la exportación, gracias al propio Tratado.
Durante el último periodo del presidente Biden, incluso hablamos muchísimo el llamado nearshoring que, ¿qué era?, la relocalización de empresas de Asia en México que facilitaban la cercanía para la exportación. Entonces, eso hizo que aumentaran las exportaciones de México a Estados Unidos, como parte del Tratado Comercial.
El presidente Trump y su administración no quieren que siga aumentando esta diferencia entre lo que exporta Estados Unidos a México y lo que exporta México a Estados Unidos. Que, hay que aclarar que son principalmente de empresas estadounidenses, pero pueden generarse esquemas que permitan que, aun cuando se siga exportando, haya más comercio entre México y Estados Unidos y esto disminuya, digamos, la diferencia a favor de México.
Entonces, hicimos una propuesta muy concreta y la están analizando, y esperamos que esto nos ayude a resolver hacia adelante mientras se revisa completo el Tratado.
PREGUNTA: ¿Se estaría solicitando o buscando entonces esta comunicación la próxima semana?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Vamos a esperar, a ver esta semana, principios de la próxima.
El presidente Trump va a una reunión de viernes a martes. Y, de todas maneras, se está trabajando con sus equipos.
Y vamos a esperar. Y si es necesario, haríamos la llamada, también.
PREGUNTA: Ok. En otro tema…
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Pero confiamos en que podamos llegar a un buen acuerdo.

En otro tema, el domingo pasado, el secretario de Seguridad, Omar García Harfuch decía que las facciones de “los Chapitos” y “los Mayos” están mermadas tras el combate de las fuerzas federales.
Preguntarle si este debilitamiento, si, ¿ustedes han detectado que este debilitamiento se ha traducido en la reducción de tráfico de fentanilo del cártel de Sinaloa a los Estados Unidos?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: La reducción de fentanilo, desde octubre que entramos nosotros a la fecha, es del 50 por ciento; reconocido por las propias instituciones del gobierno de los Estados Unidos.
¿Qué quiere decir eso? Que se incauta más fentanilo en México y ya no llega, ya no cruza a los Estados Unidos.
¿A partir de qué? De toda la Estrategia de Seguridad; no tiene que ver en particular con este grupo delictivo, sino con distintas acciones que se están haciendo.
Y no solo es fentanilo, también metanfetaminas. Recuerden que se han destruido más de… cientos y cientos —a ver cuántos informaron el martes, exactamente el número—: mil 193 laboratorios de metanfetaminas. Entonces, eso también ha implicado una afectación, se estima de alrededor de 43 mil millones de pesos, al crimen organizado, de las incautaciones, detenciones, también incautaciones de armas de fuego.
Entonces, todo eso es parte del trabajo que estamos haciendo.
Y como siempre lo decimos, buscamos también que del otro lado, en Estados Unidos, también hagan su parte; porque no solamente es el trabajo que hacemos de este lado, sino el trabajo que se tiene que hacer del otro lado de la distribución de droga en las ciudades de Estados Unidos, la venta ilegal de fentanilo en las ciudades de Estados Unidos, que eso también lo tienen que desarrollar ellos.
PREGUNTA: Presidenta, en otro tema, el día de mañana se cumple un año del traslado y posterior aprehensión de Ismael “el Mayo” Zambada en Estados Unidos.
Preguntarle si, ¿México va a insistir en esta solicitud de información?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Seguimos insistiendo nosotros. Depende, obviamente, del gobierno de Estados Unidos dar toda la información, pero vamos a seguir insistiendo.
Porque nosotros estamos de acuerdo siempre en colaborar, en coordinarnos, y hay buena colaboración y coordinación, sin injerencismo, sin subordinación, pero siempre buscando la confianza mutua; porque tiene que haber confianza de ellos hacia nosotros y de nosotros hacía ellos en lo que tiene que ver con seguridad y otros temas, eso es una base fundamental del respeto a las soberanías y del acuerdo de coordinación y cooperación.
PREGUNTA: Finalmente, Presidenta, medios españoles han reportado que Iberdrola tiene la intención de abandonar el país.
¿Qué postura tiene a este respecto?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Vamos a revisar. Todavía antier me reuní con —antes de ayer— con Secretaría de Energía, todavía me plantearon que tenía Iberdrola una serie de inversiones que quería hacer en México. Entonces, vamos a ver exactamente a qué se refiere antes de dar una opinión.
PREGUNTA: Muchas gracias.
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: —Bueno, vamos, a ver, a ver, yo dije aquí, ¿verdad?—
PREGUNTA: Gracias, Presidenta, buenos días. Rodrigo Muñoz, de NX Noticias.
Preguntarle, para comenzar, si, ¿nos puede dar detalles sobre la llamada que sostuvo ayer con el presidente Lula Da Silva? Si, ¿ahí se planteó este asunto de que se abre el mercado brasileño para el aguacate mexicano, si se abordó o fue por afuera?
Y hablar un poco sobre la visita que, al parecer, entonces realizaría el vicepresidente brasileño a nuestro país.
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Desde que vino el presidente Lula a mi toma de posesión; después, cuando estuve en el G20, en Río; y ahora que nos vimos en el G7; y algún… Otra llamada telefónica que tuvimos, planteamos fortalecer las relaciones con Brasil en varios temas: uno es el comercial y otros temas son cooperación científica, educativa, etcétera.
Por supuesto que estamos hablando de complementariedades, no estamos hablando de un Tratado de Libre Comercio ni mucho menos, sino complementar nuestras economías, y tener cooperación y colaboración.
Les platico algunas de ellas. Por ejemplo, ellos tienen una industria farmacéutica muy importante y tienen su Agencia Sanitaria. Nosotros tenemos la Cofepris, que es nuestra propia Agencia Sanitaria, o de medicamentos y equipos médicos, etcétera. Entonces, poder hacer una colaboración entre ambas instituciones, inversión de un lado y de otro de la industria farmacéutica.
Otro tema, por ejemplo, es el etanol. Brasil tiene una experiencia muy grande en producción de etanol, que es una posibilidad también para la propia industria azucarera y los ingenios en México. Entonces, se está viendo la colaboración en este tema y algunos otros temas de interés mutuo.
Entonces, desde la primera vez quedamos en que iba a haber esta colaboración y ahora, ya se hace realidad.
Vienen a finales de agosto el vicepresidente y algunos secretarios con empresarios brasileños. Y la idea es que aquí nos reunamos con el Gabinete y empresarios mexicanos que estén interesados en tener acuerdos comerciales, de colaboración, de coordinación, de cooperación, de inversiones conjuntas, tanto en Brasil como en México.
Entonces, tenemos esto con Brasil.
Recuerden que viene la representante de la Unión Europea, en septiembre.
Tenemos también planteado con Canadá. En la última llamada que tuvimos con el ministro Carney, con el primer ministro, también acordamos una visita, sea de él mismo con su equipo o con su equipo aquí en México para poder fortalecer las relaciones comerciales, económicas y de distinto tipo.
Con Guatemala nos vamos a ver ahora, para el tema de mayor coordinación, colaboración y particularmente, el tren.
Con Belice también tenemos la posibilidad que el Tren Maya pase por Belice y luego, baje a Guatemala, entre otros programas de colaboración.
Y con otros países, quedamos con Alemania también, de fortalecer la colaboración, quedamos en el G7.
Entonces, la idea también es que México, además del propio Tratado Comercial que tiene con Estados Unidos, fortalezcamos otras alianzas de colaboración, de cooperación, con todos los países con los que tenemos Tratado.
Y con los que no tenemos Tratado, ver las opciones de colaboración y cooperación; y uno de ellos, por supuesto, es Brasil.
PREGUNTA: Presidenta, esta mañana se dio a conocer que la inflación desaceleró, se ubicó en 3.55 por ciento.
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: —A ver, ponle ahí—
Ya ven que decíamos que había tres productos que estaban pegándole a la inflación el mes pasado: la carne de res, la carne de cerdo y pollo. Y ya están regresando a su precio.
Y es una reducción importante, pasó de 4.13 a 3.55. Y eso nos habla también del margen para que Banco de México pueda seguir bajando las tasas de interés, lo que nos ayuda también a aumentar las inversiones.
PREGUNTA: Perfecto. Por último, Presidenta, hace unos instantes el titular de la Agencia de Protección Ambiental de Estados Unidos, Lee Zeldin, anunció que venía al país para un anuncio importante respecto a…
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Sí. Lo van a dar, se va a reunir con Alicia Bárcena, y Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores.
Con la Agencia de Protección Ambiental de los Estados Unidos, en particular, se está viendo el tema del río Tijuana. Recuerden que se hizo la planta de tratamiento con el Presidente López Obrador, que ya nos tocó inaugurarla a nosotros, en San Antonio de los Buenos, para disminuir la contaminación del río Tijuana hacia la costa. Esa planta se va a ampliar.
Y, además, hay otras acciones que fueron firmadas que tenemos que realizar, que vamos a realizar el próximo año para todo el sistema de saneamiento de la ciudad de Tijuana, de toda la zona conurbada de Tijuana.
Y ellos también tienen que hacer inversiones.
Y ahora, se llegaron a acuerdos adicionales, además de lo que se ya se había firmado.
La verdad, este es un buen ejemplo. Así como el tema del agua fue un buen ejemplo de cómo sentándonos con los equipos técnicos se puede resolver un problema que podía parecer irresoluble, en el caso también de la contaminación del río Tijuana, pues también se llegó a un muy buen acuerdo, que ya va a ser anunciado más tarde por Alicia Bárcena y el responsable de la Agencia de Protección Ambiental de los Estados Unidos. Es un muy buen acuerdo que se logró y se va a anunciar en un ratito.

PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: —Vamos a ver, vamos a ver, a ver aquí atrás—
PREGUNTA: Gracias, Presidenta. Muy buenos días. Arturo Pavón, de El Chapucero y Efecto Colateral.
Bueno, ya nada más para rematar un poquito acerca de lo que fue lo de Iberdrola: el 46 por ciento que quedaría, si es que salieran más empresas privadas en ese rubro por un supuesto incierto en lo que es la certeza jurídica —perdón— del país, ¿habría posibilidad de que se abriera más el mercado para empresarios mexicanos?, ¿habría posibilidad de darles apoyo para que estuvieran en este 46 por ciento?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: A ver, yo creo que hay que hacer un poco de historia:
Desde 1992 —ahora sí que ya me fui a la historia—, Salinas de Gortari hizo un cambio, entonces se llamaba la Ley de Servicio Público de Energía Eléctrica; entonces la Constitución decía que “no podía haber generación privada de energía eléctrica”. Eso decía claramente la Constitución.
Para darle la vuelta, en la Ley de Servicio Público de Energía Eléctrica pusieron un artículo que decía: “Lo que no es servicio público es lo siguiente:”, o sea, le daban la vuelta a la Constitución para permitir la inversión privada.
En uno de esos puntos estaba lo que llamaban “el autoabasto de energía eléctrica”.
¿Qué entendemos por autoabasto, todos? Que, si vas a consumir tanta energía eléctrica, tú mismo vas a generar lo que consumes, ¿cierto?
Bueno, pero se dio origen a un sistema que se llamó “sociedades de autoabastecimiento”. ¿Qué quiere decir esto? Que se generaba electricidad por una persona en un lugar, o por una empresa en un lugar, y en otro lugar se compraba la energía.
Eso estaba prohibido por ley, porque si un privado genera energía eléctrica, estaba prohibido por la Constitución que un privado generará energía eléctrica y menos, que la vendiera a otro privado; sin embargo, para darle la vuelta a la Constitución empezaron a generar estas sociedades de autoabasto.
Entonces, hay muchos todavía que están en ese sistema, que incluso hoy es ilegal, porque una cosa es el autoabastecimiento propio, es decir: hay una empresa que produce acero y quiere generar su propia energía eléctrica, la genera, a lo mejor lo que le sobra lo vende a Comisión Federal de Electricidad, y eso sería el autoabasto de la energía eléctrica para esa empresa, para esa fábrica.
Pero es muy distinto que en el sureste mexicano pongas generadores de electricidad eólica y que se lo vendas a una tienda en Nuevo León usando las líneas de transmisión para transmitir la electricidad, que son de Comisión Federal de Electricidad; además, sin pagar o pagando muy poquito por el uso de las líneas de transmisión.
Estas sociedades de autoabasto eran ilegales, entonces.
Después, vino la reforma eléctrica de Peña; después, vino la reforma eléctrica que nosotros hicimos. Y en la reforma eléctrica de Peña y en la que nosotros hicimos siguen siendo ilegales las sociedades de autoabastecimiento.
¿Qué les decimos ahora a los que están amparados en las sociedades de autoabastecimiento?
Ponte en regla, véndele tu energía a CFE o hay una parte que todavía hay de mercado eléctrico que quedó en la Constitución o véndele al mercado eléctrico, pero las sociedades de autoabasto no son legales.
¿Qué pasó con Iberdrola?
Una gran parte de la generación de Iberdrola —y de otras empresas— estaba en las sociedades de autoabasto, que no estaban permitidas por la ley.
Entonces ¿qué hizo el Presidente López Obrador, en su momento?
“Bueno, a ver, ¿no te quieres poner en regla?, te compro tus plantas”. Y se generó un esquema de compra de esas plantas, a través de Banobras y de un Fondo que está en Banobras que se llama Fonadin, y se compraron las plantas de Iberdrola.
¿Con qué motivo? Para que CFE tuviera el 54 por ciento de la generación eléctrica.
¿Es un asunto solamente de convicción? No, es un asunto de estabilidad del Sistema Eléctrico Nacional. A todos les conviene, empresarios, población, a todos, tener una Comisión Federal de Electricidad fuerte.
El 46 por ciento de la generación se queda para los privados.
¿Cómo pueden generar? Generan energía eléctrica y lo que generan se los compra CFE; o lo pueden meter al mercado eléctrico, que todavía hay esa oportunidad.
¿Cuánta capacidad hay para eso? Hay cerca de 6 mil megawatts en donde pueden generar eso. Y la Secretaría de Energía está abriendo todos los mecanismos para que eso sea posible. Lo que buscamos es que la mayoría de eso sea con fuentes renovables de energía. Y están de acuerdo, incluso los generadores.
¿Por qué se retira, si se retirara Iberdrola?
Pues no tendría por qué, porque en todo caso están muy claras cuáles son las reglas actuales para que puedan desarrollarse.
Lo que sí estamos pidiendo es que las sociedades de autoabasto se pongan en regla, y hay una mesa para que lo puedan hacer, porque siguen siendo ilegales, porque generaron la electricidad a partir de un esquema que no era legal.
Entonces, decía son “sociedades”. Porque uno genera y es socio de otro que compra; pues sí, pero eso es generación eléctrica privada y compra privada de energía sin pagar prácticamente la transmisión.
Entonces, ese es el asunto.
La inversión privada en generación eléctrica es viable, es posible, hay los mecanismos, no tiene problema y está la certeza jurídica para que lo puedan hacer. Y hay muchas empresas que quieren generar.
Y el 54 por ciento de CFE también está garantizadas sus formas de financiamiento, una parte con gas natural y otra parte con energía renovable.
PREGUNTA: Muy bien. Eso quiere decir entonces que Iberdrola ya no tuvo la oportunidad de influir aquí, en el gobierno, como lo hace en España, donde sí se vuelve dueña…
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Pues vamos a ver primero si es cierta esta noticia. Y si es cierta, bueno, pues que expliquen por qué. Pero no tiene que ver con que no haya certeza jurídica, sino sencillamente… A ver, cuando se habla de Estado de derecho quiere decir que todo mundo se ponga en regla; entonces que se pongan en regla en el marco de la legislación mexicana, igual que lo hacen en España o en otros lugares del mundo.
PREGUNTA: Gracias.
La segunda pregunta es que, bueno, ayer presentó el…
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Por cierto, eh, todo eso tenía que ver con un montón de negocios de algunos, pero, bueno, ya también es parte de la historia.
PREGUNTA: Muy bien.
Ayer el secretario de Seguridad presentó un operativo, junto con el fiscal general del Estado de México, el Operativo “Liberación”, en el que se descubrió, después de las investigaciones que se hicieron con tiempo, a través de las denuncias al 089, sobre la extorsión que hubo para gente que quería construir o que quería alimentar a sus animales, tenían que hacerlo mediante un esquema forzoso en ciertos lugares.
Aprovechando este foro, porque mucha gente, como en tiempos anteriores, no le tiene mucha confianza a la denuncia. Yo le pregunté al secretario: el tiempo de respuesta y qué es lo que se hacía para que la gente ya pudiera estar tranquila una vez que hizo su denuncia.
¿Usted cómo le haría este llamado al pueblo para que denuncie?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Bueno, por eso se abrió la línea del 089. Hay dos tipos de extorsión: una es la telefónica y otra es, digamos, la presencial.
En el caso de la telefónica, si hablan al 089, de inmediato se les da orientación de qué hacer y se les pide el número de teléfono, a partir del cual recibieron la extorsión telefónica, y se hace la investigación y se pide a las telefónicas que bajen ese número de teléfono.
Si uno recibe una llamada que tiene que ver con una extorsión, lo que tiene que hacer es colgar, porque en general son extorsiones virtuales, se llaman, amenazas que no tienen que ver con la realidad.
Entonces, están capacitados y se siguen capacitando a todos los que responden al 089, los telefonistas, para que puedan apoyar a la población en caso de recibir una llamada de extorsión o algún otro tipo de extorsión: que ya sea física, que lleguen a su tienda, que los quieran extorsionar, etcétera.
Ese número nos permite o le permite a la Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana y a las propias Fiscalías iniciar una investigación sin que sea la persona la que tenga que ir a la Fiscalía a denunciar.
Porque, ¿qué es lo que pasa?, evidentemente, la persona que vive la extorsión tiene temor de ir a denunciar personalmente a la Fiscalía, y tienen razón. Entonces, nosotros los apoyamos para que la denuncia o la información que den ayude a las Policías y a las Fiscalías para que inicien el proceso de investigación, sin que ellos pongan la denuncia.
Entonces, pueden tener confianza en el número 089 para poder hacer su denuncia de manera telefónica. Incluso la pueden hacer de manera anónima, no necesitan dar su nombre. Pero sí los detalles de cómo están siendo extorsionados para que se inicie todo el proceso de investigación.
¿Qué más vamos a hacer?
Pues eso lo ya lo vamos a poner en la ley. Se tiene que cambiar la Constitución para hacer una ley general; y después, todos los estados tienen que cambiar sus legislaciones para que la extorsión se persiga de oficio: que si se denuncia, no tenga que volverse a denunciar y todo el proceso de la denuncia particular, sino, en realidad, los agravados… El agravio no es a la persona, sino es a todo el país, digamos, en el momento que hay una persona que es agraviada o que es víctima de una extorsión.
Entonces, con solo denunciar en el teléfono hay la obligación de abrir la carpeta de investigación. Ahora, lo estamos haciendo dentro del marco legal que tenemos; con el cambio a la ley va a ser todavía más fuerte esta forma. Y nuestro objetivo es erradicar la extorsión y que la gente tenga toda la información para que no vivan una situación difícil.
Lo que pasó en el sur del Estado de México es que incluso había productos que estaban al triple, en todas las tiendas, de ciertos municipios, porque obligaban al de la tienda a vender el ladrillo, en vez de en cierto precio, a un precio 3 veces más alto.
A partir de las denuncias ciudadanas que se hicieron, inicia el proceso de investigación. Y la verdad, trabajó muy bien la Fiscalía del Estado de México, y se trabajó para poder hacer este operativo. Y se va a dar seguimiento para que, en realidad, haya desaparecido la extorsión en estos municipios.
PREGUNTA: Gracias.
Y, para finalizar, Gretchen Whitmer es la gobernadora de Michigan, ella se ha destacado por oponerse a las políticas restrictivas de los derechos humanos del gobierno de los Estados Unidos; ella ha sido denostada por el mismo presidente, él la menciona como “that woman from Michigan”, o sea, “esa mujer de Michigan”, de manera despótica. Ella ha sido férrea luchadora por los derechos humanos en el estado.
Y siendo Tiempo de Mujeres, usted como líder política internacional, ella como líder política en su estado, y así como hay muchas más en todo el mundo, ¿habría la posibilidad de que en un momento dado de la historia, que todavía usted esté a cargo de la Presidencia, pudiera hacerse un encuentro entre mujeres políticas líderes en el mundo?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Pues sí se podría. Yo creo que ahorita hay que dedicarnos al país de tiempo completo.
No niego esta posibilidad. El año pasado vinieron legisladoras de distintos países en un esfuerzo muy importante que hizo la senadora Cinthya —¿cómo se apellida?— López Castro, y fue un encuentro muy bueno, y se podrían hacer otros encuentros de este tipo.
Ahora, lo internacional es importante y, sobre todo, siendo mujeres es muy importante, pero sí hay que dedicarle el 99.99 por ciento —.9999 por ciento— a México.

PREGUNTA: Presidenta, hoy el diario 24 Horas publica un informe elaborado por el Centro Regional de Fusión de Inteligencia del Sureste, en el que se señala que en correos enviados por personal militar, el 22 de agosto de 2022, se obtuvo un indicio de la presunta conexión del coordinador de los senadores de Morena, Adán Augusto, con el líder huachicolero llamado Gabriel Eduardo González, alias “Gabo”.
La mención de Adán Augusto fue directa, contiene nombre completo, se le ubica con la clave “el Tío” e incluso la Sedena abrió un expediente al respecto.
¿A usted le han informado de este tema, Presidenta?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Ayer el, el… Ayer fue martes, ¿no?, ayer vino Seguridad. Ah, no, antier, antes de ayer.
El General secretario informó cómo son estos…
PREGUNTA: Sí, la información bruta, ¿no?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: La información que Inteligencia Militar está levantando permanentemente. Puede ser incluso de fuentes abiertas como una nota en un periódico, en un reportaje o información que alguien les comentó alguna cosa, o… Son, digamos, información.
Después de eso, tendrían que pasar, si se encuentra evidencia suficiente, a una carpeta, una denuncia y la Fiscalía tendría que abrir una carpeta de investigación.
Hasta ahora, no hay ninguna carpeta —lo informé porque así es— en ninguna de las Fiscalías ni en la Fiscalía General de la República contra el senador; lo que hay es contra el que fue su secretario de Seguridad.
Ayer hubo una detención muy importante de un… de quien era, digamos, su operador de este grupo delictivo. Paraguay hizo una detención también de un familiar. Y las investigaciones siguen abiertas.
Pero en este caso de lo que dices, no hay ninguna información que haya derivado en una denuncia particular, sino informaciones que se van obteniendo, como se dice: “información bruta”, que quiere decir que no está seleccionada para poder después, si es alguna evidencia suficiente, presentar ante el Ministerio Público, o ante la Secretaría, o ante la autoridad correspondiente.
PREGUNTA: Presidenta, también sobre el tema de salud, al periódico han seguido llegando quejas de que faltan vacunas para cubrir el esquema básico en ciertas regiones del país.
¿Usted tiene conocimiento de que sí, realmente, estén, haya falta de ciertas vacunas?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: ¿Vacunas?, no.
PREGUNTA: Vacunas, biológicos.
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: No. Hay suficientes vacunas. A lo mejor es un problema de que no llegó a algún lugar a distribuirse. Y por supuesto, si nos das los datos, por supuesto, lo seguimos.
Pero en el caso… Como lo mencionó Eduardo Clark en la última vez que estuvo aquí, la adquisición de medicamentos está al 96 por ciento. Están llegando los medicamentos y se va a fortalecer la distribución de medicamentos a todas las instituciones de salud pública: IMSS Bienestar, IMSS y el ISSSTE e incluso Pemex como institución de salud pública.
Y el caso de las vacunas, se han comprado todas.
Entonces, habría que ver en particular en dónde es donde no hay abasto para que pueda enviarse de inmediato.
PREGUNTA: Y también, regresando un poco al tema de las violencias contra de los infantes, existe una sesión pendiente, una sesión nacional de SIPINNA con gobernadores que usted podría presidir. ¿Esta la tiene en puerta? ¿La han advertido qué tiene que hacerse?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Vamos a tener una reunión y a lo mejor ahí se puede aprovechar del Secretariado… —¿Cómo se llama?, Sistema Ejecutivo de Seguridad… Todas estas organizaciones tienen sus nombres— Sistema Nacional Ejecutivo de Seguridad Pública, en donde participan todos los gobernadores.
Vamos a tener muy pronto, por los cambios que hubo en la ley y el planteamiento que es importante que todos los gobernadores sepan; y ahí podría verse el tema de violencia contra niños y niñas.

Yo preferiría que lo informara la Diócesis o en este caso, el personal acá de la Iglesia católica, la jerarquía; porque somos invitados a una reunión, pero es una reunión privada.
Él es el secretario para las Relaciones con los Estados y las Organizaciones Internacionales del Vaticano, es monseñor Paul Richard Gallagher.
Entonces, yo creo que en el transcurso del día les van a informar. Y no es en las instalaciones del Gobierno Federal.
PREGUNTA: Tenemos entendido que tiene varios días en la Ciudad de México. ¿Van a estar reuniéndose en estos días o solamente el día de hoy?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: La secretaria de Gobernación es quien lleva la relación con la Iglesia católica. Entonces, la invitaron a ella personalmente a una reunión; entonces, ella asiste a la reunión.
Y quizá después de la reunión se pueda emitir un comunicado conjunto para que se pueda conocer lo que se vio en la reunión. No hay nada secreto ni mucho menos, sino sencillamente guardar las formas frente a una reunión en privado.

PREGUNTA: Buenos días, Presidenta. Elia Cruz, de La Hoguera.
Presidenta, ya como para puntualizar, el tema de Iberdrola. En caso de que se diera, se confirmara la salida, pese a que existen las condiciones para permanecer, ¿su gobierno no estaría contemplando, quizás, adquirir algunas de esas 15 plantas que van a vender, como en su momento lo hizo el Presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: No por el momento.
Hoy existe el 54 por ciento de generación eléctrica pública y tenemos un programa —como lo hemos presentado aquí— muy ambicioso de nuevas plantas de generación. Entonces, en ese esquema estaríamos ampliando la capacidad de Comisión Federal de Electricidad.
A lo mejor se podría evaluar; en este momento, no lo tenemos contemplado, pero tampoco niego que pudiera plantearse una posibilidad a través del mismo esquema que se utilizó con Banobras.
Pero primero vamos a ver si realmente esta información es certera. Y en caso de que lo fuera, no hay ningún problema, es decir, hay muchas empresas que tienen deseos de seguir participando en la generación eléctrica en México.
PREGUNTA: Gracias, Presidenta.
El tema con Brasil, la llamada que sostuvo ayer con el presidente Lula, él planteaba o decía que iban a ampliar este acuerdo comercial que hay entre las dos naciones. ¿Para ello se necesita como una nueva negociación, la firma de un nuevo Tratado, pero con las nuevas condiciones y los nuevos sectores?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: A ver, tiene que se complementario, porque nosotros, obviamente, tenemos muy buena relación con el presidente Lula; y Brasil y México son las dos economías más importantes hoy, de América Latina.
De hecho, CEPAL sacó una publicación, por ahí traíamos una gráfica de cómo Brasil fue el país que, en 2024, recibió el primer lugar en Inversión Extranjera Directa; y México fue el segundo lugar en recibir Inversión Extranjera Directa de toda América Latina y el Caribe. Entonces, evidentemente, la relación entre nuestras economías deseamos que sea mayor.
Tiene que ser complementaria, porque nosotros evidentemente no queremos sustituir lo que se produce en México, justamente, el Plan México es fortalecer más la producción de nuestro país. Entonces, no queremos sustituir lo que se produce en México por productos de Brasil, sino ser complementarios.
Entonces, para eso es la reunión, para ver en qué temas somos complementarios, en qué temas se puede trabajar más, y no solo en comercio, sino también en inversiones conjuntas; por ejemplo, de empresarios mexicanos en Brasil o de empresarios brasileños aquí que deseen ampliar sus inversiones en distintos temas. Por ejemplo, la producción de etanol, si es factible en México o no, a partir de las tecnologías que se han desarrollado.
Hay una norma, por ejemplo, de que para el 2030, el 5 por ciento de la turbosina que utilicen los aviones comerciales debe ser de cero emisiones de carbono, y es principalmente biocombustible que proviene de productos agropecuarios. Entonces, México tiene que cumplir con ese 5 por ciento, pues nos interesa que se produzca más bioturbosina en México, y en Brasil tienen experiencia.
Entonces, ver si hay la posibilidad de inversiones conjuntas o de asesoría técnica, en fin. No solamente es qué vendemos y qué compramos, sino tiene que ver con cooperación para el desarrollo.
PREGUNTA: ¿Prevén alguna fecha como para ya tener esta complementariedad?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: La reunión es en agosto, a finales de agosto, creo que es 26 y 27, o 27 y 28 de agosto. Viene este grupo de Brasil con empresarios brasileños.
Y aquí tenemos que organizar para que todos aquellos empresarios mexicanos que estén interesados en asistir a esta reunión, que no solamente es protocolaria, sino que ya sea una reunión de trabajo para poder saber hacia dónde podemos fortalecer la cooperación.
PREGUNTA: Ok, Presidenta, gracias.
En otro tema, hemos visto que ha ido escalando la política antiinmigrante del presidente Donald Trump. Ayer se dio a conocer un… Se dieron a conocer unas cartas que ha estado enviando, ahora a menores de edad, a niños migrantes, para de cierta manera amenazarlos: “que salgan de ese país o los van a encontrar”, así les dicen, y que les van a iniciar procesos legales.
¿Cuál es su opinión ante eso, Presidenta?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Primero hay que ver si sí, porque no fue confirmada la información, hay que ver si se confirma.
De ser así, obviamente, no estamos de acuerdo. Y en caso de ser mexicanos, estableceríamos toda la relación con estos menores de edad para poder apoyarles.
PREGUNTA: Gracias, Presidenta.
Finalmente, Presidenta, hemos visto algunas protestas de trabajadores del IMSS Bienestar que piden que se atienda la demanda de la basificación, y también de empresarios que son proveedores del IMSS Bienestar que dicen que no les han pagado los servicios y productos que proveen a esta institución.
¿Cuál es la alternativa que puede ofrecer su gobierno a estas dos demandas?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Se está regularizando. O sea, hay adeudos, que se revisó el contrato para ver si era factible lo que estaban solicitando. Y hay dinero, no hay problema en el caso de la proveeduría al IMSS Bienestar.
En el caso de los trabajadores y trabajadoras que piden su basificación, ahí hay una revisión que estamos haciendo.
¿Cómo queda, digamos, para los 24 estados que ya forman parte del IMSS Bienestar o los 22 estados, la Ciudad de México y Yucatán, que se está incorporando? ¿Cuáles trabajadores pasan a incorporarse formalmente al IMSS Bienestar?
Los trabajadores, la mayoría no administrativos, sino que tienen que ver directamente con el trabajo en los hospitales y centros de salud, trabajadores de la salud, sean desde médicos, médicos especialistas, médicas, enfermeras, enfermeros, camilleros y todo el personal que está asociado a la operación de un hospital o de un centro de salud.
Hay muchos trabajadores administrativos en lo que eran las antiguas instituciones de salud de los estados. Muchos de estos trabajadores ya no pasan al IMSS Bienestar, sino que se quedan en los estados trabajando, a ninguno se le mueve de su empleo, pero muchos de ellos se quedan en el estado trabajando.
Hay otros, trabajadoras y trabajadores, principalmente son enfermeros o enfermeras, que fueron contratados durante el COVID, por la necesidad que hubo de incorporar a más trabajadores de la salud en ese momento.
Todos ellos —no todos, porque ya algunos ya se han regularizado— están contratados por honorarios, es decir, no tienen una base. Y ahí también se está haciendo una revisión para que poco a poco puedan irse incorporando al IMSS Bienestar, a lo mejor ya no necesariamente en el hospital porque ya está completa la plantilla, pero en un centro de salud.
Entonces, se está haciendo una revisión de toda la nómina del IMSS Bienestar: lo que se queda en el estado, lo que se queda en el IMSS Bienestar para poder ir regularizando. Obviamente, el objetivo es que todas y todos los trabajadores puedan tener todos sus derechos laborales, pero es un proceso que se va viendo persona por persona.
Y, sobre todo, ellos, que ayudaron solidariamente en el momento del COVID, no se les puede dejar desamparados, ¿verdad?, pero se tiene que hacer una revisión para ver en qué centro de salud, cuáles centros de salud se van incorporando poco a poco.
PREGUNTA: Para finalizar, Presidenta, ayer vimos un fortalecimiento del peso frente al dólar histórico.

Quisiera preguntarle su comentario sobre lo que publicó ayer en redes sociales la Embajada de Estados Unidos respecto a huachicol fiscal, Presidenta.
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Llama la atención del… Bueno, hubo una serie de detenciones que se hicieron en Estados Unidos hace algunos meses, o algún mes, pero lo que publica es la red del huachicol en donde está incorporado también el delito en Estados Unidos.
Llama la atención, digo, porque a veces hay muchos funcionarios del gobierno de Estados Unidos que parece que todo está del lado de México.
Y siempre hemos dicho: nosotros nos encargamos y trabajamos para que no haya delincuencia y que no haya impunidad, pero del otro lado también tienen que hacer lo mismo.
Siempre hemos dicho: ¿Quién distribuye la droga en Estados Unidos?, ¿quién la vende?, ¿dónde están las detenciones?, ¿dónde está el lavado de dinero que se hace en Estados Unidos?
Y en este caso, lo que llama la atención, es que ellos ponen la red en donde involucran refinerías en Estados Unidos.
Entonces, es parte de las investigaciones. Porque ahí mismo, dice que estamos trabajando, colaborando conjuntamente; ese es un ejemplo de cómo se puede colaborar y cooperar para atender un delito tan grave como el huachicol fiscal.
PREGUNTA: ¿Se esperarían más sanciones también por parte de ellos en tu territorio?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Sí, detenciones, sanciones y todo lo que tiene que ver con lo que ocurre del lado de su frontera.
PREGUNTA: Gracias, Presidenta.
Mi segunda pregunta, aprovechando que está la secretaria de Gobernación, sobre la CURP biométrica que ya en octubre será ya, digamos, oficial, pero no es forzoso hacerlo.
Entonces ¿cuál es, digamos, la idea?, ¿quienes la tengan, la usarán y quienes no, no la usarán?, ¿o cuál será el procedimiento?, ¿O cómo en algún momento llegará a ser que todos debamos tenerla?, ¿cuál sería el proceso?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Evidentemente, a nadie se le puede obligar a que lo haga.
Claro que nosotros creemos que es importante que se haga, porque ayuda en muchos temas y, particularmente, en los temas relacionados con víctimas de violencia. Entonces, ayuda en ese caso y en muchos otros, y en particular en el tema de desaparecidos.
Entonces, estamos orientando a que se haga, pero a nadie se le obliga a que lo haga.
Y a partir de octubre, inicia este proceso ya formal, dentro del marco de la nueva ley.
PREGUNTA: La principal causa —me imagino— es por el tema de los datos biométricos que es delicado, ¿no?, pero los bancos los tienen cuando uno va pone sus huellas, incluso en algunos lados.
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Pues sí, en las aplicaciones de los bancos te lo piden, incluso hasta tu rostro.
Entonces, pueden tener la certeza de que está segura, que tiene todos los mecanismos de ciberseguridad necesarios; y pueden tener la certeza de que no se va a hacer mal uso de ellos, sino sencillamente ayuda a distintos temas y, en particular a, si son víctimas de algún delito, poder apoyar.
PREGUNTA: Mi última pregunta, Presidenta, en temas de Veracruz. Me comentaban… Estuve en Papantla hace un par de semanas, el fin de semana, y no hay cajero en el Banco del Bienestar, cajeros automáticos. Y comentaban que es necesario, que si se pueden instalar cajeros automáticos, porque solo hay adentro del banco…
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: No, pues tienen que tener. Vamos a revisar por qué no, por qué no tienen.
PREGUNTA: Es un solo banco en toda la cabecera municipal con tres cajeros nada más; entonces, las filas, principalmente de adultos mayores o discapacitados…
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Son muy… Lo revisamos.
PREGUNTA: Y hay suficiente terreno para instalar otro banco con cajeros.

PREGUNTA: Buenos días, Presidenta. Tania Damián, de Ángulo 7.
Hablando del tema de huachicol fiscal, quisiera preguntar: si es parte de los decomisos, ¿qué se hace con el huachicol decomisado?
Apenas, Harfuch, el secretario de Seguridad, dijo que se habían decomisado 15 millones de litros. En Tamaulipas se sigue decomisando, creo que es parte del caso de Hernán Bermúdez.
Y estaba leyendo exactamente el tuit de la Embajada y dice que “están colaborando México y Estados Unidos para detener el huachicol fiscal”. ¿Cuál sería el objetivo?
Y bueno, también, sí es cierto que Estados Unidos a veces solo se fija en México y no hace su trabajo.
Pero en el caso de México, que se ve que se está trabajando en contra de este huachicol fiscal, ¿cuáles son los objetivos?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: A ver, primero, habría que decir qué es eso del “huachicol fiscal”, para que se entienda. Digamos, que hay dos tipos.
Uno es: combustible importado de Estados Unidos que es reportado como otro producto. Entonces, supónganse que un carrotanque trae diésel y se reporta como nafta, entonces paga menos impuestos o un impuesto diferente. Y no se le da seguimiento porque supuestamente se va a usar para la industria química, cuando en realidad se vende como combustible de manera ilegal. Esa es una forma.
Otra forma es: que se reporta que se compró algo que en realidad no se compró, se hace una factura falsa.
Son, digamos, las dos formas.
Cuando entra el combustible a México y se reporta que es menos combustible o se reporta como otra cosa que no es el combustible, ese es el que ayer salió en la Embajada de Estados Unidos.
Pero incluso ellos lo ponen más, porque puede ser… Hay permisos de importación, por parte de la Secretaría de Energía. Durante el periodo del Presidente López Obrador se redujeron los permisos de importación y ahora, se está haciendo una revisión todavía mayor de aquellos que tienen permisos de importación de combustible, de gasolina o de diésel, o de algún otro combustible, gasavión, en fin, turbosinas, otro combustible.
De esas empresas que tienen permiso de importación, si reportan que importaron otra cosa, entonces hay una sanción a esa empresa y, además, hay una investigación penal porque es un delito.
Si hay una empresa que no tiene permiso de importación de gasolina, pero tiene permiso de importación de un producto químico, pero en realidad importó gasolina y no ese producto químico, también tiene su sanción.
Entonces, esas son las formas ilegales.
Ayer la Embajada de Estados Unidos lo que publicó fue todavía algo mayor, que es: petróleo crudo que sale de México se va a refinar a una refinería de Estados Unidos y entra de manera ilegal a México.
Entonces, en esa parte, en ese posible delito o probable delito, se hace una colaboración.
De todas maneras, si el combustible viene de Estados Unidos, pues hay que ver si el delito viene desde la refinería de donde salió, o el centro de almacenamiento de donde salió la compra del combustible hasta México, o sencillamente hay una falsificación de documentos del importador.
Todas estas confiscaciones que… —¿se dice así?— Todo este producto confiscado que se ha estado haciendo de combustible lleva más investigaciones, lleva más investigaciones, se detiene a alguien; y ahí se ve cómo fue que se quería importar; y ahí se da seguimiento para poder saber a ver quiénes y cuáles, y hasta dónde llega este involucramiento.
PREGUNTA: ¿Y este huachicol confiscado se vuelve a usar o qué se le está haciendo?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Sí, una vez… Así como en el caso del INDEP, una vez que la Fiscalía termina su investigación con aquello que confiscó, se puede utilizar ese combustible sea para Pemex o para algún… para la Defensa, por ejemplo. Claro que tienen que hacerse las pruebas para saber si el combustible es bueno.
PREGUNTA: Gracias, Presidenta.

PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Nada más sobre el huachicol:
Vamos a llegar hasta las últimas consecuencias; o sea, las investigaciones están dando mucha información. Y nuestro objetivo es que todo sea legal, igual que en otros casos, que todo sea legal; que si hay combustible importado, que pague los impuestos que tiene que pagar y que sepamos a qué gasolinera va a ir.
Entonces, toda esa parte que he platicado de todo lo administrativo que se está haciendo y todo lo penal, vamos a poner en orden esa parte del llamado “huachicol fiscal”.
PREGUNTA: Gracias.
Entrevistamos a una maestra de la UTP y nos comentaba —Universidad Tecnológica de Puebla— que la Dirección General de Universidades Tecnológicas… Ella solicitó que por qué no iba a haber incremento, aunque sea… ellos solicitan un 4 por ciento de incremento a todos los trabajadores, digamos, académicos, administrativos; porque todos los directivos de estas universidades tecnológicas sí lo tienen, el 4 por ciento.
Entonces decía: “¿Por qué, digamos, los directivos de estas universidades tecnológicas sí lo tienen en 2025, y todos los administrativos y los trabajadores académicos no lo van a tener?”
Entonces, la directora le comentaba que por qué no se había movido el…
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: ¿En qué institución?
PREGUNTA: Son todas las universidades tecnológicas del país, estamos hablando universidades y…
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Pues que sea al revés, ¿no? Como le hicimos aquí en el Gobierno Federal: nosotros no vamos a tener incremento salarial, quien va a tener incremento… O sea, nosotros, todos los trabajadores de confianza; quien va a tener incremento salarial es los trabajadores de base.
PREGUNTA: Sí porque, de hecho, en octubre siempre se hacía ese incremento, y hay muchos trabajadores que piensan que sí se va a hacer. Pero ojalá se pueda revisar ese tema, aunque sea el 4 por ciento. Y hay casos de trabajadores de universidades tecnológicas que ganan…
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Hay muchos que son estatales, eso de los tecnológicos.
PREGUNTA: Sí, la mitad siempre es estatal y federal, digamos que es el tema de todo esto, del tema administrativo, sí, pero en realidad quien tiene la batuta es la Dirección General de Universidades Tecnológicas e Institutos Tecnológicos.
Claro que si la batuta dice que… bueno, la Federación dice que “va”, los estados tienen que aportar su parte, porque 50 por ciento va del estado y 50… de los salarios.
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Se revisa.
PREGUNTA: Gracias, gracias, Presidenta.
Y finalmente, el tema del tren ―que ayer ya comentaba―, el Tren Puebla-México-Veracruz. El gobernador Alejandro Armenta señaló que ya tenía dos propuestas.
Y también decía: ¿qué posibilidad habría de que pasara por el AIFA? O sea, que dijéramos: fuera del aeropuerto de Puebla, porque el aeropuerto de Puebla… Y quiero preguntarle sobre los aeropuertos estatales que están manejando… bueno, ahorita la Defensa y con quien ya están teniendo reuniones: están muy subutilizados en el tema de carga.
Por ejemplo, en el de Puebla solo se utiliza un 18 por ciento, o sea, de la capacidad. ¿Y de qué manera se puede buscar que estos aeropuertos también puedan funcionar más para el tema de traslado de carga?
Y el gobernador planteaba la posibilidad de que pasara: aeropuerto de Puebla, AIFA y…Me parece que tiene dos rutas para este tren.
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: En el caso de ese tren, se está viendo la posibilidad de algunas nuevas vías para conectividad, pero se va a usar la vía existente de carga. Hay dos vías, se está viendo cuál es la más factible; pero se va a usar la vía existente, no se va a construir nueva vía.
Digamos que vamos a hacer los trenes al norte, terminar el Tren Maya de carga, el Tren Interoceánico y, en este caso, la conexión a Puebla y a Veracruz es por las vías existentes.
PREGUNTA: Gracias.
¿Y qué se puede hacer para buscar que los aeropuertos que están en los estados se puedan fortalecer en esa parte y no se subutilicen tanto? ¿Tiene que ver la Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Transportes?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Son parte de un sistema aeroportuario de nuestro país; entonces, no todos los aeropuertos tienen carga, dependiendo también de la logística donde estén.
Pero planteamos que se revise con el gobernador.
PREGUNTA: Gracias.
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: —Bueno, vamos con Carlos y terminamos—.
PREGUNTA: Doctora, ¿cómo está? Carlos Guzmán, de Quatro Media Telecomunicaciones, Veracruz.
Preguntarle, de inicio, de las reformas.
Por aquí la compañera de 24 Horas hablaba sobre el tema de SIPINNA. Con el Presidente López Obrador quedaron pendientes unas reformas del Plan C a leyes secundarias; entre ellas, el regreso de SIPINNA al DIF, las facultades que tiene SIPINNA regresarlas al DIF, por todo esto que se ha dado incluso hace algunas semanas: casos de niños maltratados, violentados.
El Presidente López Obrador, en 2019, planteaba justamente el regreso de esta facultad que tiene SIPINNA, bueno, que tiene como Presidenta, al Ejecutivo Federal, en este caso a usted.
Pero finalmente no ha funcionado desde los años que se puso en operación SIPINNA. Esa facultad se le quitó al DIF: se le podría —decía el Presidente López Obrador— regresar la facultad y también darle ese presupuesto de SIPINNA al DIF.
Consultarle si, ¿se contempla esta posibilidad debido a los casos que ha habido múltiples hace algunos meses, de niños que tienen problemas de maltratos y todo ese tipo de cosas?
SECRETARIA DE GOBERNACIÓN, ROSA ICELA RODRÍGUEZ VELÁZQUEZ: Con su permiso, Presidenta.
Sí hay un debate alrededor del tema, que sí sería importante informar, dar un reporte sobre cómo está el tema en el país, pero, sobre todo, en algunas comunidades donde se ha acrecentado este tema. No es todo el país, hay zonas en donde, efectivamente, hay denuncias sobre maltrato, sobre violencia hacia niñas y niños.
Y hace falta dar el debate y ver que sí sería necesario continuar hablando con el DIF sobre cuál es la ventaja de que esté en el DIF, porque SIPINNA es muy pequeño, no es una institución grande.
¿Cuál es la fuerza de SIPINNA? Las SIPINNAs, digamos así, estatales. Pero sería importante ver también si sigue en Gobernación, como está actualmente o dependiendo de nosotros, es un área en la que se trabaja aquí; pero también sería importante ver la ventaja del DIF, puesto que allá está la Procuraduría de la Defensa de las Niñas, Niños y Adolescentes, en fin.
Hace falta ahí seguir en la discusión, en el debate; pero lo más importante es que están trabajando de la mano actualmente el DIF, y SIPINNA, y las SIPINNAS de los estados, en relación con el maltrato o el abandono hacia niños en algunas zonas del país. Pero estamos trabajando en esta parte.
Va a tomar todavía unos días, pero me parece que como estamos caminando actualmente, necesitamos hacer el balance: en dónde estaría mejor y en todo caso, ya tomar la definición.
Ahora está acá y está trabajando bien con los gobiernos de los estados; incluso, pronto habrá una reunión para atender los temas a los que aquí se han referido.
PREGUNTA: Y también hablaba de temas de reformas de lo que es en legislativas.
Por aquí está Mónica Fernández, que fue presidenta del Senado de la República hace algunos años. Pero, justamente, en la época que estaba ella como senadora, le tocó esta reforma también del Presidente López Obrador sobre el tema de lo que tiene que ver con Revocación de Mandato.
El único gobernador que lo ha hecho, incluso hace algunos días que vino aquí a presentar la Guelaguetza, fue Salomón Jara, anunció que se va a someter a Revocación de Mandato.
Es consultarle, Doctora, si, ¿en este próximo periodo ordinario, que empieza en septiembre, se contempla, entre las reformas prioritarias que pudiese usted mandar al Congreso, este tema, este anhelo del Presidente López Obrador de concretar de que los gobernadores también, incluso presidentes municipales, se sometan a la Revocación de Mandato?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Bueno, los presidentes municipales tienen… ya van a tener tres años nada más, a partir del 2030; ya no se van a poder reelegir, a partir del 2030. Entonces, ahí sería difícil una revocación, ¿no?, por el tiempo, digamos, que tienen de su mandato.
Lo de los gobernadores, habría que… Yo lo dejaría a los gobernadores, ¿no?, y que el pueblo evalúe. Lo podríamos pensar, pues.
Pero, hasta el momento, no hemos pensado enviar una modificación constitucional para la obligatoriedad de la Revocación, en el caso de gobiernos estatales.
PREGUNTA: Y ya, finalmente, dos cuestiones.
La primera también tiene que ver con temas legislativos: Presidenta, usted ya la publicó, las leyes que se aprobaron en extraordinario; entre ellas, la de Telecomunicaciones.
Es preguntarle: ¿cuándo va a enviar su propuesta de los próximos comisionados?
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Nos toca enviar las propuestas de los comisionados de la Institución Antimonopolio que sustituye a Cofece; y la del IFT, en la nueva institución.
Recuerden que el Senado entra el 1º de septiembre. Entonces, alrededor, cercano ya al 1º de septiembre, ya estaríamos enviando las propuestas.
PREGUNTA: Y ya para finalizar: aquí afuera hay unos defraudados de una empresa que creo se llama SmartPlus o algo así. Pero también es un caso recurrente desde que estuvo el Presidente López Obrador, hubo varias empresas financieras que le pedían… Bueno, anunciaban ofertas para que ahorrara la gente; está el caso de CAME, que defraudó a 1.3 millones de personas, básicamente adultos mayores.
Es consultarle si, ¿a través de la Comisión Nacional Bancaria y de Valores, le han entregado un reporte del seguimiento de estas empresas?, si, ¿hay forma de meterlas en cintura?, porque va aumentando, va aumentando. Le digo, hoy está una aquí afuera.
PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Se está revisando el fortalecimiento de la regulación bancaria en varios temas, en acuerdo con los bancos.
Pero sí es importante, y ya traeríamos al secretario de Hacienda para que pueda hablar de ello.

PRESIDENTA DE MÉXICO, CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO: Bueno, vamos con “Mujeres en la historia”.
SUBSECRETARIA DE EDUCACIÓN BÁSICA, NOEMÍ JUÁREZ PÉREZ: Con su permiso, Presidenta.
Gracias. Muy buenos días a todas y a todos.
El día de hoy en la sección “Mujeres en la historia” vamos a presentar una reforma que salió publicada en el Diario Oficial de la Federación este lunes pasado, 21 de julio; es la reforma al artículo 18 de la Ley sobre el Escudo, la Bandera y el Himno Nacionales, en materia de reconocimiento de las mujeres que han transformado nuestro país. Esta Ley se publicó en el Diario Oficial en 1984.
Veamos qué reformas han sucedido:
¿Qué nos dice la reforma?
Primero, en el artículo 15 nos habla acerca del izamiento de la bandera. Estoy segura que han visto muchas ceremonias tanto en edificios escolares como en edificios públicos, o en las representaciones diplomáticas o consulares de nuestro país. El artículo 15 nos señala que se va a izar la bandera a media asta en conmemoraciones que tienen que ver con aniversarios luctuosos, por ejemplo, y a toda asta en aniversarios de natalicios o alguna celebración.
¿Hasta el lunes pasado cómo estaba conformado este calendario cívico?
Con 55 fechas emblemáticas de la historia de México: 38 de asta completa ―como les mencionaba― y 17 a media asta.
De estas, 23 fechas estaban vinculadas a 17 personajes masculinos, ya sea individuales o colectivos. ¿A qué me refiero? Por ejemplo, se iza la bandera en los natalicios o aniversarios luctuosos de Venustiano Carranza, de Benito Juárez, de Francisco I. Madero; pero también en fechas emblemáticas como la Batalla de Puebla del 5 de Mayo de 1862, el Aniversario de la Expropiación Petrolera, la Promulgación de la Constitución de 1857 y 1917; o en media asta por el Batallón de San Patricio, o Los Niños Héroes, la Batalla de los Niños Héroes en Chapultepec en 1847. Así estaba conformada.
Con cada una de las reformas se iban incorporando algunos personajes; el último fue Servando Teresa de Mier, todavía en el año anterior.
Bueno, pues esta reforma… perdón, esta ley que lleva publicada desde 1984, hasta hoy día, en estos 41 años no involucraba la participación de ninguna de las mujeres que hemos revisado en la historia, y eso y de esa materia es esta reforma.
¿Cuál es la iniciativa? ¿Qué es lo que se aprueba?
Que en la materia se reconozca la importancia del papel transformador de las mujeres en la historia de México. Se incorporan 24 mujeres de distintas épocas y regiones de nuestro país y, sobre todo, que hayan participado en las tres Transformaciones de la historia de México.
¿Quiénes son ellas?
Entre algunas de ellas tenemos a Rosario Ibarra, Leona Vicario, Sor Juana, Juana Belén, obviamente, también tenemos a las cuatro mujeres que conforman la identidad gráfica de este “Año de La Mujer Indígena”, y se van a estar incorporando también en estas conmemoraciones del calendario cívico para que se ice —en honor a ellas— a media asta o asta completa, según corresponda.
La lista completa de estas 24 mujeres es la siguiente:
Tenemos a las revolucionarias Elvia Carrillo Puerto, a la primera médica Matilde Montoya, también la revolucionaria María Arias Bernal.
Del periodo de Independencia: Gertrudis Bocanegra, Josefa Ortiz y Leona Vicario. Están en estos momentos agrupadas por sus fechas de natalicio o aniversario luctuoso. También, muy importante, Hermila Galindo, en cuanto a materia de la lucha por el sufragio femenino.
Carmen Serdán, Sor Juana, Margarita, Ignacia Riesch, también la conocimos recientemente en esta sección.
De las 24 mujeres que conforman estas efemérides, 17 ya han sido abordadas en la sección “Mujeres en la historia”. Por lo tanto, podrán encontrar las cápsulas de quiénes son ellas, en qué han participado.
Todavía tenemos pendientes algunas. Por ejemplo, de la enfermera Elena Arizmendi, aunque ya hicimos mención; encontramos también a Rita Cetina; Laureana Wright, que también está muy próximo.
Ahora, ¿cuál es la primera fecha en la que se va a izar la bandera de nuestro país en honor a una mujer?
La fecha más próxima es el siguiente, 31 de julio, en el aniversario luctuoso de Sara Pérez Romer. Por primera vez la bandera se va a izar a media asta, en 200 años que tenemos de historia, pero a 40 [años] de que se hace esta reforma.
Y a toda asta, la fecha más próxima conmemorativa es el 5 de septiembre, que coincide también con el “Año de La Mujer Indígena” porque, además de estas 24 efemérides, se incorporaron 5 fechas emblemáticas:
Tenemos 8 de marzo, por el Día Internacional de las Mujeres.
El que les comentaba, 5 de septiembre, Día de las Mujeres Indígenas, se va a izar a asta completa.
14 de septiembre, Día de las Forjadoras Anónimas de la República.
17 de octubre, muy importante, es el Reconocimiento de las mujeres mexicanas a su derecho a votar y ser votadas.
Y el 25 de noviembre, por el Día Internacional de la Eliminación de la Violencia contra la Mujer.
¿Cómo queda conformado el calendario cívico, ya, en nuestro país?
Con 84 fechas emblemáticas en la historia de México: 52 de asta completa, 32 a media asta; de las cuales, 32 ya reconocen el importante papel transformador de las mujeres en la historia de nuestro país.
Como les comentaba, 31 de julio, por Sara Pérez, da inicio a esta ceremonia, que se podrá reflejar tanto en representaciones consulares, en edificios de gobierno y, bueno, también en las escuelas.

Well, it’s been quite a week. It’s been Jeffrey Epstein all the time. For the first time, it seems that a scandal is actually sticking to Trump, although he could still escape, as he usually does. He does seem uniquely panicked though. Yesterday, he sued the Wall Street Journal for publishing a suggestive message he reportedly sent to Epstein for his 50th birthday.
From Ron Filipkowski’s summary of yesterday’s politics news at Meidas:
… WSJ poured more gas on Trump’s raging Epstein inferno with a new story about a birthday card that he sent to the child trafficker and rapist in 2003. The story said Ghislaine Maxwell asked friends of Epstein to submit cards to compile as a special gift for this 50th birthday, and Trump sent one is as one of his closest friends.
… “The letter bearing Trump’s name, which was reviewed by the Journal, is bawdy—like others in the album. It contains several lines of typewritten text framed by the outline of a naked woman, which appears to be hand-drawn with a heavy marker. A pair of small arcs denotes the woman’s breasts, and the future president’s signature is a squiggly ‘Donald’ below her waist, mimicking pubic hair.”
… Inside the outline of the naked woman was a typewritten note styled as an imaginary conversation between Trump and Epstein, written in the third person.

Donald: Yes, there is, but I won’t tell you what it is.
Jeffrey: Nor will I, since I also know what it is.
Donald: We have certain things in common, Jeffrey.
Jeffrey: Yes, we do, come to think of it.
Donald: Enigmas never age, have you noticed that?
Jeffrey: As a matter of fact, it was clear to me the last time I saw you.
Donald: A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.
… When asked about the letter and picture prior to publishing, Trump naturally denied everything to the Journal: “This is not me. This is a fake thing. It’s a fake Wall Street Journal story. I never wrote a picture in my life. I don’t draw pictures of women. It’s not my language. It’s not my words. I’m gonna sue WSJ just like I sued everyone else.”
… The WSJ, other media sources, and social media users then posted online several drawings that Trump made at various times on different occasions to refute Trump’s claim.

President Trump mounted a vigorous rebuttal on Thursday night to a report in The Wall Street Journal that he sent a birthday greeting with a sexually suggestive drawing to Jeffrey Epstein in 2003.
His alibi: “I don’t draw pictures,” he wrote on Truth Social.
But a review of the president’s past reveals that, for years, Mr. Trump was a high-profile doodler — or at least suggested he was. In the early 2000s, he regularly donated drawings to charities in New York. The drawings, many of which appear to be done with a thick, black-marker and prominently feature his signature are not dissimilar to how The Journal describes the birthday note he sent Mr. Epstein.
“It takes me a few minutes to draw something, in my case, it’s usually a building or a cityscape of skyscrapers, and then sign my name, but it raises thousands of dollars to help the hungry in New York through the Capuchin Food Pantries Ministry,” he wrote in his 2008 book, “Trump Never Give Up: How I Turned My Biggest Challenges Into Success.”
After Mr. Trump was elected president, some of the drawings he signed were auctioned off for thousands of dollars — even as he wrote in his book that “art may not be my strong point.”

When the FBI raided Epstein’s mansion in Manhattan in 2019, they seized piles of evidence, including stacks of compact disks bearing the labels “Young [Name] + [Name],” suggesting he had kept video evidence of men sexually assaulting underage girls.
Within hours of the discovery of Epstein’s body in his prison cell in 2019, Trump was retweeting a conspiracy theory alleging that former president Bill Clinton was involved in his death. Trump and his loyalists pushed the idea that Epstein was trafficking girls to powerful Democratic politicians and Hollywood actors, an accusation that dovetailed with the QAnon conspiracy theory claiming that Trump was secretly leading the fight against such a cabal. Trump fed the idea that if reelected, he would release the information he claimed was being withheld as part of a coverup.
In fact, the politician most closely associated with Epstein was Trump himself. In 2002, Trump told New York Magazine: “I’ve known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy. He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it—Jeffrey enjoys his social life.”
And yet Trump supporters overlooked Trump’s long friendship with Epstein until billionaire Elon Musk resurrected the story that Trump might be implicated in the records of the Epstein investigation. On June 5, in the midst of a fight with Trump, Musk posted on social media: “Time to drop the really big bomb: [Trump] is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!”

Dan Mangan at CNBC: Trump sues Murdoch for $10 billion over WSJ story on Epstein birthday letter.
President Donald Trump on Friday followed through on his threat to sue media mogul Rupert Murdoch after his Wall Street Journal published an article saying that Trump sent his then-friend Jeffrey Epstein a “bawdy” letter for Epstein’s 50th birthday.
Trump, who angrily denies writing the letter, is seeking damages of no less than $10 billion in the lawsuit alleging defamation.
Named as defendants in the suit in federal court in the Southern District of Florida are Murdoch, his company News Corp and its CEO Robert Thomson, the Journal’s publisher, Dow Jones & Co., and the two reporters who wrote the article published Thursday evening.
A Dow Jones spokesperson sent the following statement to CNBC: “We have full confidence in the rigor and accuracy of our reporting, and will vigorously defend against any lawsuit.”
The suit comes as Trump faces growing pressure to have the Justice Department release its investigative files about Epstein, who killed himself in August 2019 after being arrested on federal child sex trafficking charges.
The Journal’s article said that the letter purportedly written by Trump to Epstein in 2003 was among documents reviewed by criminal investigators who ultimately built criminal cases against Epstein and his convicted procurer, Ghislaine Maxwell, who reportedly solicited the letter from the president.
For the first time, Trump’s base is questioning his excuses, although some of his followers are defending him against the Wall Street Journal revelations, according to Axios.

These were MAGAjust a few of the calls that besieged conservative radio hosts across the US this week. The president’s ardent supporters spent the past decade fulminating over various foes, from Barack Obama and the deep state to undocumented immigrants and transgender children. Now they have a new target: Donald Trump himself.
The “Make America Great Again” (Maga) base is in revolt as never before. The trigger was Trump’s broken promise to publicly release details about Jeffrey Epstein, a wealthy financier and convicted sex offender, who was facing federal charges of sex-trafficking minors when he died in jail in 2019.
Spurred by the president and his allies, Trump’s movement has long latched on to the Epstein scandal, claiming the existence of a secret client list and that he was murdered in his cell as part of a cover-up. But last week the justice department and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced there was no evidence that the disgraced financier kept such a list or was blackmailing powerful figures.
Far from closing the case, the memo deepened supporters’ obsession and sense of grievance. A movement defined by the view that elites rig the system against them felt cheated. Trump made efforts to douse the flames with ever-shifting explanations, excuses and distractions but merely poured fuel on the fire.
To some, his erratic and evasive behaviour implies a guilty secret. It also evokes a line from President John F Kennedy’s 1961 inaugural address: “Those who foolishly sought power by riding the back of the tiger ended up inside.” Having spent years embracing QAnon-tinged propaganda that casts him as the only saviour who can demolish the “deep state”, Trump is now seen as co-opted by its corrupt bureaucracy.
Joe Walsh, a former Republican congressman who ran against Trump for president in 2020, said: “I talk to the base every day and nothing animates the base more than the deep state. This Epstein thing was Trump’s promise. This was going to finally expose the deep state. Now Trump says nothing there? It ain’t going to stand.”

When he was running for president, Trump said he would release files related to the case. But a bundle put out in February contained little new information. Then in June the spotlight turned back on the president when his former adviser Elon Musk claimed – in a now-deleted X post – that Trump is “in the Epstein files”.
Just a month later, a memo from the justice department and FBI said the Epstein files did not contain evidence that would justify further investigation. An almost 11-hour video published to dispel theories Epstein was murdered showed a section of the New York prison on the night Epstein died but appeared to be missing a minute of footage.
The Maga faithful erupted in fury. Media personality Tucker Carlson, activist Laura Loomer and Trump’s former adviser Steve Bannon claim the government’s handling of the case lacks transparency. The far-right commentator Jack Posobiec said he would not rest “until we go full Jan 6 committee on the Jeffrey Epstein files”.
Baffled, flailing and unusually out of step, Trump used his Truth Social platform to call supporters off the Epstein trail amid reports of infighting between the attorney general, Pam Bondi, and the FBI deputy director, Dan Bongino, over the issue.

Last night, a stunning story broke about efforts in the DOJ to find out how often Trump was mentioned in the Epstein files. Nnamdi Egwuonwu at NBC News: FBI personnel were told to flag Epstein files mentioning Trump, Senate Democrat says.
Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin, D-Ill., pressed Justice Department leadership about their handling of files related to the federal investigation into the late Jeffrey Epstein, including reports that FBI personnel were instructed to “flag” any records that mentioned President Donald Trump.

In a series of oversight letters written to Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino, Durbin questioned Bondi about “contradictions” in her public statements on the case, Patel about reports that he was “pressured” by Bondi to place 1,000 personnel on 24-hour shifts to mine roughly 100,000 Epstein-related records and Bongino about reported disputes among Trump officials about “the lack of transparency” in their handling of the high-profile case.
In the letters sent Friday, Durbin, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, asked each of the Trump administration officials to respond to informationreceived by his office that suggested FBI personnel were specifically instructed to “flag” any records mentioning Trump.
“My office was told that these personnel were instructed to ‘flag’ any records in which President Trump was mentioned…. Why were personnel told to flag records in which President Trump was mentioned,” Durbin asked Bondi, Patel and Bongino in separate letters. “What happened to the records mentioning President Trump once they were flagged?”
A Durbin aide told NBC News that the senator’s office received that information from a protected FBI whistleblower disclosure.
The FBI declined NBC News’ request for comment on Durbin’s letters.
One thousand agents were required to find all the Trump mentions? Good grief!
Durbin, like many of Trump’s supporters over the past week, asked the attorney general to reconcile her earlier public declarations with her department’s finding that “no further disclosures” are warranted in the case and that a review of records “revealed no incriminating client list.”
“Why did you publicly claim on February 21 that the client list was ‘sitting on my desk right now to review?'” Durbin asked Bondi. “If it was not a client list, what was ‘sitting on your desk’ at that moment?”
Bongino and Patel have also faced backlash online. Both of them previously promoted conspiracy theories that suggested the Epstein case was part of a government cover-up to protect powerful political players involved in a child abuse ring.
Patel, in the only post he’s made to his personal social media account since the Justice Department memo was released, said “the conspiracy theories just aren’t true” and “never have been.” Durbin, aiming to call attention to Patel’s past suggestions of a cover-up, asked the FBI director to detail the conspiracy theories he was referring to in his post.
“What are the conspiracy theories you are referring to in your July 12 tweet that ‘were never true?’ If there are more than one, please explain each in detail,” the senator wrote to Patel.

Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon, the top Democrat on the powerful Senate Finance Committee, has been digging into Mr. Epstein’s financial network for the past three years. Some members of his staff have viewed confidential files that shed light on the immense sums of money that, they say, Mr. Epstein moved through the banking system to fuel his vast sex-trafficking network.
In particular, filings by four big banks flagged more than $1.5 billion in transactions — including thousands of wire transfers for the purchase and sale of artwork for rich friends, fees paid to Mr. Epstein by wealthy individuals, and payments to numerous women, the senator’s office found. The filings came after Mr. Epstein was arrested in 2019 on federal sex trafficking charges.

Large money transfers to individuals, foreign countries or obscure companies are the kind of things banks are supposed to be examining as potentially suspicious. Some of the Epstein money transfers disclosed in a report from JPMorgan Chase involved accounts at two Russian banks before those institutions were subject to U.S. sanctions. A few transactions red-flagged were for as much as $100 million.
Mr. Wyden said his investigation into Mr. Epstein’s finances had taken on new urgency now that the Trump administration was balking at releasing any of the information seized by the F.B.I. from Mr. Epstein’s homes or information collected from the nation’s banks. Like many Republicans on the far right, Mr. Wyden and a growing number of Democrats believe there are more details about Mr. Epstein that the federal government needs to reveal.
“We felt from the beginning this was a follow-the-money case,” Mr. Wyden said in an interview. “This horrific sex-trafficking operation cost Epstein a lot of money, and he had to get that money from somewhere.”
The bank records reviewed by Mr. Wyden’s staff — called suspicious activity reports or SARs — are meant to be an early warning system for law enforcement about signs of illegal activity. As dictated by federal law, the reports are so confidential that banks can’t even acknowledge filing them, and people who have seen the documents are under great constraint as to what they can say about them.

An ex-girlfriend of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein characterized his relationship with President Donald Trump as “very close and up to no good.”
“They were best friends,” Stacey Williams, who says she dated Epstein for “about four or five months,” told CNN’s Brianna Keilar. “The only friend he would mention every time we saw each other or every time we had a phone conversation was Donald.”
Trump has gone to great pains to distance himself from Epstein; Ghislaine Maxwell, the imprisoned alleged mastermind behind Epstein’s sexual offenses; and tales of sordid parties and predatory escapades on Epstein’s private island.
But Williams cast doubt on Trump’s attempts to distance himself from the disgraced financier.
“That was his bro, that was his wingman,” said Williams, 57, a former model who alleged that Trump groped her in 1993, the Guardian reported. Williams even said she met Epstein at a Christmas party that Trump threw at the Plaza Hotel in 1992….
Williams said during the Friday interview that Epstein would “share a lot of anecdotes” about his time with Trump. She added, “I have plenty of anecdotes. And yeah, they were they were very close and they were up to no good.”

A Dow Jones spokesperson sent the following statement to CNBC: “We have full confidence in the rigor and accuracy of our reporting, and will vigorously defend against any lawsuit.”
The suit comes as Trump faces growing pressure to have the Justice Department release its investigative files about Epstein, who killed himself in August 2019 after being arrested on federal child sex trafficking charges.
The Journal’s article said that the letter purportedly written by Trump to Epstein in 2003 was among documents reviewed by criminal investigators who ultimately built criminal cases against Epstein and his convicted procurer, Ghislaine Maxwell, who reportedly solicited the letter from the president.
For the first time, Trump’s base is questioning his excuses, although some of his followers are defending him against the Wall Street Journal revelations, according to Axios.

These were MAGAjust a few of the calls that besieged conservative radio hosts across the US this week. The president’s ardent supporters spent the past decade fulminating over various foes, from Barack Obama and the deep state to undocumented immigrants and transgender children. Now they have a new target: Donald Trump himself.
The “Make America Great Again” (Maga) base is in revolt as never before. The trigger was Trump’s broken promise to publicly release details about Jeffrey Epstein, a wealthy financier and convicted sex offender, who was facing federal charges of sex-trafficking minors when he died in jail in 2019.
Spurred by the president and his allies, Trump’s movement has long latched on to the Epstein scandal, claiming the existence of a secret client list and that he was murdered in his cell as part of a cover-up. But last week the justice department and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced there was no evidence that the disgraced financier kept such a list or was blackmailing powerful figures.
Far from closing the case, the memo deepened supporters’ obsession and sense of grievance. A movement defined by the view that elites rig the system against them felt cheated. Trump made efforts to douse the flames with ever-shifting explanations, excuses and distractions but merely poured fuel on the fire.
To some, his erratic and evasive behaviour implies a guilty secret. It also evokes a line from President John F Kennedy’s 1961 inaugural address: “Those who foolishly sought power by riding the back of the tiger ended up inside.” Having spent years embracing QAnon-tinged propaganda that casts him as the only saviour who can demolish the “deep state”, Trump is now seen as co-opted by its corrupt bureaucracy.
Joe Walsh, a former Republican congressman who ran against Trump for president in 2020, said: “I talk to the base every day and nothing animates the base more than the deep state. This Epstein thing was Trump’s promise. This was going to finally expose the deep state. Now Trump says nothing there? It ain’t going to stand.”

When he was running for president, Trump said he would release files related to the case. But a bundle put out in February contained little new information. Then in June the spotlight turned back on the president when his former adviser Elon Musk claimed – in a now-deleted X post – that Trump is “in the Epstein files”.
Just a month later, a memo from the justice department and FBI said the Epstein files did not contain evidence that would justify further investigation. An almost 11-hour video published to dispel theories Epstein was murdered showed a section of the New York prison on the night Epstein died but appeared to be missing a minute of footage.
The Maga faithful erupted in fury. Media personality Tucker Carlson, activist Laura Loomer and Trump’s former adviser Steve Bannon claim the government’s handling of the case lacks transparency. The far-right commentator Jack Posobiec said he would not rest “until we go full Jan 6 committee on the Jeffrey Epstein files”.
Baffled, flailing and unusually out of step, Trump used his Truth Social platform to call supporters off the Epstein trail amid reports of infighting between the attorney general, Pam Bondi, and the FBI deputy director, Dan Bongino, over the issue.

Last night, a stunning story broke about efforts in the DOJ to find out how often Trump was mentioned in the Epstein files. Nnamdi Egwuonwu at NBC News: FBI personnel were told to flag Epstein files mentioning Trump, Senate Democrat says.
Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin, D-Ill., pressed Justice Department leadership about their handling of files related to the federal investigation into the late Jeffrey Epstein, including reports that FBI personnel were instructed to “flag” any records that mentioned President Donald Trump.

In a series of oversight letters written to Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino, Durbin questioned Bondi about “contradictions” in her public statements on the case, Patel about reports that he was “pressured” by Bondi to place 1,000 personnel on 24-hour shifts to mine roughly 100,000 Epstein-related records and Bongino about reported disputes among Trump officials about “the lack of transparency” in their handling of the high-profile case.
In the letters sent Friday, Durbin, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, asked each of the Trump administration officials to respond to informationreceived by his office that suggested FBI personnel were specifically instructed to “flag” any records mentioning Trump.
“My office was told that these personnel were instructed to ‘flag’ any records in which President Trump was mentioned…. Why were personnel told to flag records in which President Trump was mentioned,” Durbin asked Bondi, Patel and Bongino in separate letters. “What happened to the records mentioning President Trump once they were flagged?”
A Durbin aide told NBC News that the senator’s office received that information from a protected FBI whistleblower disclosure.
The FBI declined NBC News’ request for comment on Durbin’s letters.
One thousand agents were required to find all the Trump mentions? Good grief!
Durbin, like many of Trump’s supporters over the past week, asked the attorney general to reconcile her earlier public declarations with her department’s finding that “no further disclosures” are warranted in the case and that a review of records “revealed no incriminating client list.”
“Why did you publicly claim on February 21 that the client list was ‘sitting on my desk right now to review?'” Durbin asked Bondi. “If it was not a client list, what was ‘sitting on your desk’ at that moment?”
Bongino and Patel have also faced backlash online. Both of them previously promoted conspiracy theories that suggested the Epstein case was part of a government cover-up to protect powerful political players involved in a child abuse ring.
Patel, in the only post he’s made to his personal social media account since the Justice Department memo was released, said “the conspiracy theories just aren’t true” and “never have been.” Durbin, aiming to call attention to Patel’s past suggestions of a cover-up, asked the FBI director to detail the conspiracy theories he was referring to in his post.
“What are the conspiracy theories you are referring to in your July 12 tweet that ‘were never true?’ If there are more than one, please explain each in detail,” the senator wrote to Patel.

Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon, the top Democrat on the powerful Senate Finance Committee, has been digging into Mr. Epstein’s financial network for the past three years. Some members of his staff have viewed confidential files that shed light on the immense sums of money that, they say, Mr. Epstein moved through the banking system to fuel his vast sex-trafficking network.
In particular, filings by four big banks flagged more than $1.5 billion in transactions — including thousands of wire transfers for the purchase and sale of artwork for rich friends, fees paid to Mr. Epstein by wealthy individuals, and payments to numerous women, the senator’s office found. The filings came after Mr. Epstein was arrested in 2019 on federal sex trafficking charges.

Large money transfers to individuals, foreign countries or obscure companies are the kind of things banks are supposed to be examining as potentially suspicious. Some of the Epstein money transfers disclosed in a report from JPMorgan Chase involved accounts at two Russian banks before those institutions were subject to U.S. sanctions. A few transactions red-flagged were for as much as $100 million.
Mr. Wyden said his investigation into Mr. Epstein’s finances had taken on new urgency now that the Trump administration was balking at releasing any of the information seized by the F.B.I. from Mr. Epstein’s homes or information collected from the nation’s banks. Like many Republicans on the far right, Mr. Wyden and a growing number of Democrats believe there are more details about Mr. Epstein that the federal government needs to reveal.
“We felt from the beginning this was a follow-the-money case,” Mr. Wyden said in an interview. “This horrific sex-trafficking operation cost Epstein a lot of money, and he had to get that money from somewhere.”
The bank records reviewed by Mr. Wyden’s staff — called suspicious activity reports or SARs — are meant to be an early warning system for law enforcement about signs of illegal activity. As dictated by federal law, the reports are so confidential that banks can’t even acknowledge filing them, and people who have seen the documents are under great constraint as to what they can say about them.
Members of Mr. Wyden’s staff provided an overview of the banks’ reports to The New York Times based on their review of the filings.

An ex-girlfriend of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein characterized his relationship with President Donald Trump as “very close and up to no good.”
“They were best friends,” Stacey Williams, who says she dated Epstein for “about four or five months,” told CNN’s Brianna Keilar. “The only friend he would mention every time we saw each other or every time we had a phone conversation was Donald.”
Trump has gone to great pains to distance himself from Epstein; Ghislaine Maxwell, the imprisoned alleged mastermind behind Epstein’s sexual offenses; and tales of sordid parties and predatory escapades on Epstein’s private island.
But Williams cast doubt on Trump’s attempts to distance himself from the disgraced financier.
“That was his bro, that was his wingman,” said Williams, 57, a former model who alleged that Trump groped her in 1993, the Guardian reported. Williams even said she met Epstein at a Christmas party that Trump threw at the Plaza Hotel in 1992….
Williams said during the Friday interview that Epstein would “share a lot of anecdotes” about his time with Trump. She added, “I have plenty of anecdotes. And yeah, they were they were very close and they were up to no good.”

W 1446 r. przed sądem we francuskim mieście Pamiers stanął niejaki Antoine Simon. Za kradzież. Konkretnie kradzież samego siebie.
Wcześniej Antoine Simon mieszkał ze swoim panem, zasobnym kupcem Ponsem Ferrerem, w Barcelonie. Nie było w tym nic dziwnego, bo szacuje się, że w tamtych czasach nawet 9 % populacji Katalonii stanowili niewolnicy. Ale Antoine'owi Simonowi nie odpowiadało życie w niewoli, więc czmychnął górskim szlakiem na północ, do Francji. W tym również nie było nic dziwnego, choć trasa wiodąca przez Pireneje liczyła ponad 200 km i nie należała do łatwych. Ale w tamtych czasach wśród katalońskich niewolników krążyły już legendy o francuskim powietrzu, które czyni wolnym. Jak zeznał w 1395 r. pewien zbiegły z Walencji czarnoskóry mężczyzna, wystarczy pomieszkać 4 dni na francuskiej ziemi, by stać się wolnym.Zanim w Stanach bowiem powstała kolej podziemna abolicjonistów, w Pirenejach istniała jej średniowieczna protoplastka.
Większość uciekinierów była, jak ich wówczas nazywano, Maurami, czyli niewolnikami afrykańskiego pochodzenia; jednym z nich był właśnie czarnoskóry Antoine Simon. Ale uciekali również Turcy, Bułgarzy czy Rusini. Niektórzy – z niejakim bezwstydem – przebierali się za świątobliwych pielgrzymów. Katalońskie władze, które irytował ten proceder, twierdziły, że w ucieczce pomagali im wolni, żyjący w górach muzułmanie oraz gangi zbiegłych niewolników.
Naturalnie taka ucieczka była przestępstwem. Po schwytaniu zbiega karano; na przykład pewien niewolnik na życzenie swojego pana został przywiązany przed budynkiem sądu i ukarany przynajmniej 50 batami. Ale wcześniej należało zbiega odszukać, czym zajmowali się specjalni poszukiwacze, którzy potrafili po ładnych paru latach dopaść uciekiniera. Oferowano też nagrody. Na przykład w 1413 r. katalońskie władze wynajęły herolda, by ogłaszał 2 razy w roku w Carcassonne, czyli po francuskiej stronie, że ktokolwiek wie, gdzie są zbiegli katalońscy niewolnicy, ma obowiązek przekazać ich katalońskim władzom, te zaś zapłacą mu 10 aragońskich florenów za fatygę.Wskutek interwencji byłego właściciela Antoine trafił do więzienia. Pons Ferrer podnosił przed sądem, że nabył Antoine’a za niebagatelną kwotę 100 aragońskich florenów, niewolnik powinien zostać mu więc bezzwłocznie oddany. Pozwał też pracodawcę Antoine’a. Należąc do wpływowej rodziny kupców i nawigatorów, mógł liczyć na mocne poparcie katalońskich władz.
Lecz Antoine również mógł na coś liczyć: na zdrową sąsiedzką francusko-hiszpańską niechęć oraz obywatelską dumę z odwiecznych mieszczańskich przywilejów.Jego pracodawca zeznał przed sądem, że miał prawo zatrudnić Simona jako wolnego człowieka, gdyż wolność tę gwarantują mu odwieczne zwyczaje i prawa Pamiers, sięgające aż 1228 r. Zgodnie z nimi żaden mieszkaniec Pamiers nie może być niepokojony, kupowany ani sprzedawany przez żadnego świeckiego ani duchownego pana. Gdyby tak nie było, to przecież sam doradziłby mu, żeby uciekał dalej, aż do Tuluzy, najsłynniejszego miasta-azylu dla niewolników.
Tam bowiem już 1203 r. w pewnej sprawie sądowej wszystkie strony postępowania przyznawały, że jest taki lokalny zwyczaj, że nikt z Tuluzy nie może kupić żadnej osoby mieszkającej w Tuluzie ani w pozyskać takiej osoby od kogokolwiek spoza Tuluzy. Kiedy w 1283 r. Tuluza została włączona do królewskiej domeny, spisano miejscowe prawo zwyczajowe, przypominając, że ludzie przybywający, by w Tuluzie osiąść i tu mieszkać, bez znaczenie, skąd są, choćby mieli panów, mogą pozostać wolni od swoich panów i prowadzić tutaj swoje sprawy bez skarg, przeszkód i sprzeciwów swoich panów, a wzmiankowani panowie nie mogą i nie będą przymuszali tych ludzi, żyjących w Tuluzie lub na jej przedmieściach, wedle zamysłu lub widzimisię pana. Dodam, że skala niewolniczych ucieczek do Tuluzy była tak wielka, że Hiszpania podnosiła tę sprawę podczas negocjacji pokojowych, co zaledwie 6 lat przed procesem Antoine’a dało okazję Jeanowi Solacii, urzędnikowi miejskiemu z Tuluzy do wygłoszenia mowy i podnoszenia w niej, że wolność jest naturalnie przedkładana nad inne rzeczy i pożądana przez każdą żywą istotę, i dla każdego, kto prawidłowo rozumuje, jest jasne, że niewola została wprowadzona przemocą i strachem, wbrew pierwszemu prawu naturalnemu.Ale mieszczanie z Pamiers też nie wypadli sroce spod ogona.
Jakiś Jean de Belaybre twierdził podczas postępowania sądowego, że sam urodził się w rodzinie byłego niewolnika, który został uwolniony w Pamiers, bo taki jest tu przywilej. Kupcy zeznający na rzecz Antoine’a przypomnieli kilku niewolników greckiego pochodzenia, którzy wcześniej uzyskali wolność na mocy tej zasady. Ktoś inny zeznał, że niewolnicy mogą żyć w Pamiers wolni, zaś Antoine został ochrzczony i żył jak porządny chrześcijanin, a pojmano go wbrew miejskim przywilejom.Następnie sąd Pamiers – lekceważąc żądanie katalońskich władz i aragońskiej królowej – uznał czarnoskórego Antoine Simona za wolnego człowieka i nowego obywatela Pamiers.
Średniowiecze miewało więcej barw i odcieni niż nam się wydaje.
