  3. In this season of rediscovery and rebuilding, I’m going back to the roots of what shifted my career from #SysAdmin to #ProductMarketing.

For me, it all started with learning about #DevOps. So today, I’m setting Brandon Sanderson aside and relistening to The Phoenix Project—the book that lit the fire.

  10. Set a static IP on Linux:
    nmcli con mod "connection-name" ipv4.addresses 192.168.1.100/24
    nmcli con mod "connection-name" ipv4.gateway 192.168.1.1
nmcli con mod "connection-name" ipv4.method manual
    nmcli con up "connection-name"

Because "it gets an IP from DHCP" is fine...until it isn't.

  11. Taught about host security last week! Here are a few essentials:
🔒 Default-deny firewalls (ufw or firewalld)
    🧰 Disable unneeded services
🖧 Use SSH keys, not passwords
📊 Watch /var/log/secure for odd activity

Host hardening is your first defense, not your last.
    What are your goto tools?

  12. Account security on Linux starts simple: principle of least privilege.

    A few quick checks:
    1) Ensure no one logs in directly as root
    2) Use sudo with proper group assignments
    3) Enforce strong password or key policies
    4) Monitor failed logins via /var/log/secure or journalctl

Small habits prevent big breaches, especially in shared environments.
What’s one account security tip you wish you’d learned earlier?

  13. Tech Tip Wednesday:

Ever need to copy a large directory but keep permissions and links intact? Try:
    rsync -avh /source/ /destination/

    -a preserves permissions, links, timestamps
    -v gives you progress
    -h makes sizes human-readable

Bonus: add --progress if you like watching numbers fly by. 😅

  14. Do Not Disturb isn't enough on its own.

The real move is setting VIP status on the people and channels you actually need to hear from so the right alerts still get through while everything else waits.

Your boss, your on-call rotation, your kids' school. Everything else can wait.

  18. One of the smallest changes that made the biggest difference in my workday: scheduling Do Not Disturb. Not turning it on when I remember. Actually scheduling it.

Deep work hours in the morning. Lunch. After 6pm. Blocked and protected. Notifications will always be there when you're ready for them. Your focus window won't.

What hours do you guard the most?
