It wasn't until I started writing about data breaches that I understood market capitalism.
The best profit making opportunities exist when you find gaps between how the rules are supposed to work and how they actually work.
Even better, when you understand the legal system you can financialize pieces of the real economy for your own advantage. Blame this for the housing crash and the rise of private equity.

Capitalism is turning the world into a hijacked JSON document!?
In my latest post I explore how market captialism, like a computer network, is an open system whose users, resources, protocols, and infrastructure can be "hacked."

I don't want to wholesale abandon the #firefox ecosystem, and I'm using #zenbrowser. It's everything I ever wanted and more. But I'm wondering if I can get a self-hosted Firefox sync server working with it or if custom implementations of this project have mostly been abandoned. #homelab #firefox_sync #browser

@DirkGutlin @spujb @brembs @neuralreckoning Imo that's not the feature. It's more like Mastodon doesn't assume what you want. No one's making a decision about what should be on your feed.
Absolutely is a double-edge sword. Agree w/ most of Dirk's points, but I maintain as a baseline this might be more desirable if the tradeoff is #ensittification, consolidation of power, erosion of democracy, etc. given incentives of VC-led apps.

With the cuts going on in the name of efficiency and so-called DEI imperialism it's no surprise science YouTube is in trouble. It's sad.
If you at all understand the progress in the 20th century, you'll know it's the result of a relay race involving both private and public sectors. In the coming week's I'll be talking a lot about "antirival" goods and why we need a better collective understanding of them.

(2/2) The fundimental purpose behind Misaligned Markets is to articulate a clear framework that explains why market capitalism often leads to "solutions" like leaded gasoline and what we can do about it.

For my part might be best to just save my comments for my blog & fully walk away from #extwitter. But when stuff like basic research and public goods come up, can't seem to help myself.
I'm sure others feel the same way about pandemics and safety nets, so that if they break there can be some shared understanding.
But trying to communicate nuance or educate on social media (especially with what Elon has turned the site into) is like fighting entropy.
