On friday, my university, Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel, left X (ex Twitter) together with over 60 german universities and scientific institutions. At last!!! I am happy that finally a social network promoting hate and discrimination loses more and more media reach. I hope many individuals will follow, let's welcome them to the fediverse!

For my part might be best to just save my comments for my blog & fully walk away from #extwitter. But when stuff like basic research and public goods come up, can't seem to help myself.
I'm sure others feel the same way about pandemics and safety nets, so that if they break there can be some shared understanding.
But trying to communicate nuance or educate on social media (especially with what Elon has turned the site into) is like fighting entropy.

Well, I did it. I finally left the bird-hell site in the dust (Bite me, Elon!). Deactivated my account today. There is a lot of good info and good people still there but I simply cannot any longer.
I am angry, sad, frustrated, disappointed, confused, frightened . . . and determined that the darkness will not win.
But for now, I grieve.

I have other news for Musk. The videos part of the "X Everything App" has an existing website as well called XVideos (NSFW obviously) which has a dot-com address and probably trademarked too. I imagine XPics, XChat, etc. has similar issues in the adult entertainment demographic. If it doesn't it will from Unix/XWindows or XBox world. When he tried this shit back in the PayPal days he was literally kicked out of the company after they finally convinced him to take a vacation. With teams of sycophants and bobbleheads nothing stops his juvenile impulses.
