I have decided to send e-mails directly to the #News outlets I have been blocked from following on #NewsieSocial. I am asking them to reconsider their server choice and to either migrate to another one with a more transparent moderation or to run their own servers, as done by @themarkup and @TexasObserver. Fingers crossed!

This is more of the same pattern of anti-democratic behaviour from Doug Ford, plowing ahead with non-solutions to the housing crisis & the climate crisis by giving mayors powers to override council decisions & encouraging urban sprawl. This, at a time when he and his government should be under investigation for the corruption exposed by the Auditor General. Don’t allow Ford & developers to turn the page on this scandal.

I'm having a real hard time following accounts on #NewsieSocial, though. It would be amazing if more #News outlets started hosting their own servers, as @themarkup and you do.

Apparently newsie.social is having funding issues and may have to shutter. Their cost far exceeds their contributions.
But also, they’re chasing away paying contributors.
newsie.social is operated by HoneyTree, which appears to be a hosting provider. If they’re messing up something like Mastodon and Fediverse with the tools available to them, how do they expect to operate a hosting provider?
Some large instances have also blocked newsie for some potential issues.

Thanks, Mary.BTW not to put too fine a point on it but #newsieSocial is regrettably CloudFlare, which is also 'internet cancer' (the 'c' is CAGEMAFIA).

#NewsieSocial is perhaps a more useful example than Gab. Perhaps I'm wrong, but it seems the sanctions were eased after Newsmax was thrown to the wolves.
But there's still plenty wrong at newsie.social. The owner refuses to moderate anti-trans bigotry as long as it is "respectful and in good faith."

As #NewsieSocial is currently being limited, I made a page showing a list of #news accounts on the #fediverse for Sakurajima users to follow. I would like to note that this is not an exhaustive list, but I will be updating it as I find more accounts.
