  1. Dressed like Toto Coelo auditioning for a Clan of the Cave Bear HBO series. Feel your inner druid. Should be singing this at dawn in the middle of Avebury while the audience chant and stamp and wail around them.
I quite like it, although to be honest the stage setting is doing a LOT of heavy lifting here. Nonetheless, good work Croatia #Eurovision

  2. what the indescribable hell is this, Bulgaria?
I feel like looking back on your life and saying, I wish I hadn't listened to my manager when he said to do the dancing bit in the chorus, is not a great epitaph
    #Eurovision

  3. Czechia fielding sensitive soulful Screech from Saved By The Bell in a hall of mirrors. Unfortunately the song is apparently called Crossroads, and he therefore should be wearing a Benny-style woolly hat and isn't so nul points I'm afraid. Stop looking into the camera like you want the person on the other side of the table to perceive the hurt in your soul, dude, it isn't working #Eurovision

  4. Malta have a cowboy, apparently, which seems unlikely to me since I went to Malta (and liked it a lot) last year and wide open plains where the beef needs a-ropin' were in short supply. On the other hand, this guy is really good-looking (if you like that sort of thing) and the song is a not-bad Paul Anka sort of thing, so points for that
    #Eurovision

  5. Not sure about sad dramatic Serbian black-metal-but-for-your-grandma bloke here, with his finger-spiked gloves. I can't help but feel that this would be a lot better if Rammstein did it.
    #Eurovision

  6. Ukraine at #Eurovision doing the waif thing; long-haired woman in drifty white dress, except it's actually trousers. They've got a long weird bit made of strings, much like the backing music. If I wanted Celine Dion with a ninth as much power and made by that AI thing that everyone hates, I know where to find it, and the answer is apparently here.

(addendum: ok, after that very long held note in the middle, I'm upgrading your singing ability from a 5 to a 9, fair play, that was good)

  7. oh good a novelty #Eurovision song.
no wait, I don't mean "good", do I? what's the word I want?
    "aaaaaaaaaaaaarghnonomakeitstop", that's the one.
No, Greece, no. Lots of people watched a film as a kid and had it inform who they wanted to be as adults, but if you're choosing Bob Hoskins in the Super Mario film you are doing it wrong.
Putting a heartfelt breakdown in the middle with anticapitalist messages on the big screen does not rescue it, I'm afraid

  8. ok I have a lot more time for Albanian Hozier than I think a lot of people will. This is Drama is what this is. I like it. #Eurovision

  9. Ah, Israel.
This makes the whole thing troublesome because his government are genocidal murderers. He isn't, and I'm conflicted about it all just like last year (mastodon.social/@sil/114525694 for more). I decided to watch because I enjoy the experience of listening (and taking the piss) and I've tried to ignore bloody politics for years in #Eurovision, but it's soured the experience and I respect Ireland/Netherlands/etc refusing to take part in protest.
Fortunately the song was generic rubbish.

  10. Germany!
    most generic power-pop thing ever!
    disappointed.
    #Eurovision

  11. I'll say this, the #Eurovision people know about stage setting. The Denmark song is... not too bad, we'll see how it goes, but the appearance is great. Half the shots look like they're from a music video with dramatic film lighting

  12. on the other hand low-budget Barry Chuckle who has stolen a gold necklace from Del Boy is for all of the no and has about as much class as a one-room schoolhouse
    #Eurovision

  13. catastrophically strong jacket game by the Austrian ex-winner, though #Eurovision

  14. RE: mastodon.social/@sil/114525487

Ok this #Eurovision entrance song by last year’s winner is a load of waily bollocks, yes it is. Checking back, I thought the song was crap last year too so no big change

  15. RE: social.vivaldi.net/@brucelawso

Look at all these lovely people. #SotB26 was excellent. Caught up with people I’ve known for two decades, met people I’ve known about for nearly as long, and cool new people who I’ll know from now on as well!

  20. On this note, though, does anybody know of there’s a way to improve the search query syntax in #Pagefind ? It doesn’t support excluding words, for example, unless it does and I don’t know it.

  21. Main screen at #TechMids being compered by @brucelawson with a very strong hat and jacket game

  22. At #TechMids, woo! Sound check done, got a glass of water, all looking good

  23. @melanie honestly, #yesallmen. Me included. Sorry. But it’s just sitting there, an open goal. You just gotta.

  24. @webstandards I should also say: really nice work by the #SotB2024 team on getting these videos recorded, transcribed, and published. Very cool!

  25. This is the talk I did at #StateOfTheBrowser. It's about how we set up @owa , how you can do your own open web advocacy, and why that's important. And about poetry and the Lady of Shalott. I'm quite proud of it, actually. Video, transcript, and slides at kryogenix.org/code/browser/the -- have a watch, and let me know what you think. And if you'd like to see this talk in person, I'm giving it at #OggCamp this weekend as well, and probably offering it to other conferences too.
