The #PackRat just won a gold medal.
🥇The low time record for junk-spotted-and-acquired to junk-purposed to junk-deployed has been absolutely shattered!
The unknown melamine boards with the dishwasher? Just stiffening supports for the packaging. They are some sort of dense fibreboard. No idea why they were plastic wrapped other than they will absorb water and degrade.
Anyway, absolutely perfect size to support the incredibly handy shelf I have on this banister.
With #CrazyCanuckBBQ stuff!

My proofing cupboard needs additional heat! It can't keep up with the overnight lows.
The graph shows pretty much exactly when the heat goes down in the house and the seedling heating pad goes all Scotty on me.
Time for a second pad. Take that!

Somebody knows the way to KBQs gnarled, blackened heart! 👍👍
🤘🤘 -
Made some significant progress on the topper today.
Got too tired to continue and started making mistakes but this is a good place to stop for the night.
I'll add the top neopixel and double check the wiring tomorrow before firng it up flat like this when I'm (hopefully) fresh. And yes, the telco patch wire is back again!
An initial foray into electronic 'sculpture' where I can hide all my mistakes!

This is their (now discontinued) ESP8266 Colour WiFi Display kit. The ESP8266 is a Wemos D1 Mini Pro.
Comes in a very nice case, good protective packaging for parts and everything you need. The board for mounting the D1 Mini Pro and display is inside the static bag at the front left that is reflecting a lot of light.
Designed by Fred.
Not a surprise that the #PackRat still has an unbuilt kit. I gave one to a local teen who was interested in electronics. Trying to set the hook as it were.

CW: Cooked Meat
A Celebration of Bacon?
An Extravaganza of Bacon? It certainly can't be a Surplus of Bacon!
🤪😋🔥Cold maple smoked peameal bacon on the left. Double maple smoked maple syrup/black pepper pork belly bacon on the right. Two pieces of loin done the same way as belly bacon on the bottom right.
Yum!

We have success, Ladies & Germs!
Forest finally let me finish the tree!
And it's still Xmas! 🎄🎅
I haven't even mapped it yet and it looks pretty good! I'm happy!
But mapping it will be a fun exercise. (he says confidently with both shoes tied together)

CW: Cooked Meat
Not often I get surprised on the BBQ any more. I know what I'm expecting and pretty much always get it.
But this ham came out of nowhere. OMG it's good! Maybe the best ham I've ever had. Certainly the best I've made.
36 hour cure (which you can taste), smoked at 225°F until 130°F internal. Brushed with maple-syrup/black pepper 2-3 times during smoking.
Then bump heat to 275° and slather with pineapple/ginger/cinnamon/smoked hab powder 'pineapple sauce'.
😋🎉😋🎉😋

Lightly cold smoked peameal bacon.
Smoked with maple, needs to be cooked before eating.

CW: Uncooked Meat
Onto the smoker for the hot smoke for the bacon!
There are two large chunks of ham that got 36hrs in the cure as well. It was already cured and lightly smoked so it was just a flavour exercise. That's dinner tonight and *a lot* of leftovers.
The peameal bacon is in the cold smoker which is where the bacon will be moved for the second smoke once it hits 140°F internal.

Ooops! The #PackRat just whipped his tail down across my hand!
One does *not* make twist ties out of perfectly good unused wire! Especially straight off of the spool!!
Ouch!
Now using the snarl of telco patch wire that I collect every time I see the opportunity. Yellow/blue should be good enough, it's 28AWG and the protected strings for the lights themselves are much more visible than I expected. Even more so than the green outdoor ones I had there before.
Won't matter when it's dark 🤷♂️

GET IT OUT OF YOUR MOUTH!
He screams, desperately trying to extract the string of #neopixels from the cats wirecutter maw.

It's everywhere. Is there a worldwide shortage of lames I didn't know about? This is nuts!
But you know what?
Scalpels are really, really sharp; the blades are very cheap and there are *lots* of blade shapes.
Not only that, I can use them for lots of other tasks. 💡💡💡
There is likely even one (or more) lurking somewhere. Now where would the dental tools be hiding? 🤔

@kibcol1049 so close and yet so far. Found my headphone extension cable which, of course, being the 🦖 I am has a quarter inch plug.
Need ⅛ to ⅛ 🤦♂️
Time to do the only possible thing. Leave this out in a really annoying place and let my subconscious dwell on where my #PackRat self may have stored something like that. 😂
I am entirely unsure of whether the fact that I have found a multitude of ⅛->¼ adapters already is a bad or good sign.

So, thanks to *ahem* helpful interest, I spent some time thinking about blades.
I don't have the skills/knowledge/tools to *make* something like that.
But *sharpen* it, that's my territory. Even a razor blade.
Meet the KBQ Slasher.
Let's see if I'm talking through my hat.
* if this works, future me would to *thank* @smellsofbikes for the hours to be invested in modifying the 22 remaining unused blades.
Cuz this here #PackRat will find it impossible to throw them out now! 😂

The type of thing I find while looking for a stud finder.
Hasn't been legal tender since 2021. Pretty much out of circulation for a decade before that.

CW: Uncooked Meat
And that, my friends, is just about ready!
Five and a half days so it has crossed the safety line (5 days) but I'm going to give it 1-2 more. It's not quite where I like it to be and it fits into my timing for smoking it better anyway.
The next step after removing from the cure and rinsing is air drying in the fridge for 24-48 hrs.

#CrazyCanuckBBQ tip
If you make your own yoghurt, save the last cup of 'soupy' mixture left after transferring the solids from the cooking container into the storage container(s).
Then marinate some chicken in it!
