  1. We’re having our roof done in July 🫣💰. It was booked back in January and I’m anxious about it for lots of reasons inc. what if roofer forgotten and should I check in or is that fussing. Anyway, he checked in with me today, confirming schedule and not to hesitate if any questions. I’m still anxious but less so. If his communication is a measure of his roofing skills that’s all good. Meanwhile another roofer who failed to materialise to quote in Jan messaged me yesterday to ask if still needed 🙄

  2. I neglected my dahlia tubers over winter and figured they’d had it. Bought some more and obvs the ones in the garden are now sprouting 🙄. The new ones are ready to go out but I don’t have anywhere for them. Are they ok grown in containers? One can grow to 1-1.5 metres so I’m not sure. The others are smaller 60-90cm. I’m a dahlia novice. These are single flowered varieties to attract pollinators as well as look pretty. I don’t have suitable pots hence the question before I buy any. 🙏

  3. So I’ve fitted little swinging doors to the hedgehog feeding station to try and keep mice and voles out. They aren’t 😅. But the hogs haven’t quite figured them out so one of the doors is taped open for now. Meanwhile, husband was having a cup of coffee nearby earlier and a female blackbird suddenly burst out through the swinging door! I’d left the lid open this morning after cleaning it so she must have dropped in for a nose and decided to go out through the tunnel and door. Come on hogs!

  4. My running battle with the mice and voles stealing all the food (and resulting rodent population explosion) continues. I found someone who makes little doors for the feeding station (yes I probably could have made something but I’m supporting a small business and they’re cute). I’m not sure the hogs’ve figured them out yet (possibly but video stopped).
Nor it seems have the mice, though they have found a way in through a small gap in the box 🤦‍♀️ and presumably told their mates.

  6. I should not have got out of bed this morning. I definitely should not have attempted to bake.

  7. Some mysterious rustling, a half eaten marigold and some random blueberries in the greenhouse today revealed to be the work of a vole! It just appeared all of a sudden before squeezing under the closed door. I didn’t think our blueberries were ready but maybe they are…or were.

  8. I am curious to see where our hedgehogs go on their trundlings and suspected they were coming and going under the fence into the neighbours’ field so set up my camera. There are SO many comings and goings. Some make more of a meal of it than others (for some reason they’re not using a bigger hole that the pheasants use 🤷‍♀️). Anyway I’ve stitched 3 videos taken over a space of 6 minutes. Hard to be sure but I think two different hogs - one in then another out and back in…maybe.

  9. I think I might be getting my sourdough mojo back. I’d lost it for a while. The loaf may look a bit anemic but was baked through and the crust good and cronchy!

  10. Please take a moment to enjoy watching a hedgehog drinking (and sneezing) to the accompaniment of the dawn chorus this morning.

  11. Lots of #hedgehog activity last night - it almost outnumbered the mouse/vole activity for the first time in a while! Also seemed to be the same hog going back for seconds, thirds and fourths so could be a mum with babies to feed. Time will tell.

  16. I tooted a week or so ago a pic of what I thought was my last apple tree to bloom. But I’d forgotten about this one. Mère de ménage which produces an apple perfect for the classic Apple Charlotte dessert. Chap who came to help prune was amazed the tree was still standing, let alone alive. It leans at an impossible angle and the trunk is more dead wood than live. It had a gentle prune to remove dead weight and it seems so much better for it. The bees appreciate it too 🐝💚.
