In the spirit of moving stuff from GH and simply do a better archiving should we move CATMOG (https://github.com/qmrg/CATMOG) to Zenodo?
What should be the license?
Pinging some #geo quant' @geospacedman @ianturton

#geoAI #gis researchers in my feed, I failed to see how this https://research.google/blog/mapping-the-modern-world-how-s2vec-learns-the-language-of-our-cities/ is "a significant step toward foundational intelligence for #Geography "
Rasterizing data (how did they handle support change?) and reducing dimensionality is nothing new (is innovation here that llm are good at "analyzing" some kind of "eigenvalues"?).
Also is "embedding" overused?
what I am missing?

Well I am thinking about the all division in the department of education that was managing #IPEDS and was fired, the contractors that was DOGE'd and the new Trump order that are asking to do more and change everything ... (prob. more another way of pissing off universities and colleges)

Welp I blogged!
For once not a boring R/computer stuff but it is related (a bit).
We are reading "Blue Ridge Commons" at home. The author bring an interesting point of view of how "computer systems", kept the forester away from the diversity of forests/practices.
I am curious of what other in the space of modelling are thinking about that, it prob. have change.
The book is better than my blog post.

Topic: #enclosure #forest #environment history

This (sadly on medium) article on GovTech is poping in some spaces: https://medium.com/@joybonaguro/govtech-reckoning-a-framework-for-government-modernization-91c99e8d5b26
I am curious what are other ideas on it. My biggest main points on concerns about it are:
- should be more political (ie what do people want in GovTech).
- should include researchers
pinging @waldoj since I do not know good # for these kind of topic

Top grain traders ‘helped scupper’ ban on soya from deforested land | Environment | The Guardian
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/oct/06/top-grain-traders-helped-scupper-ban-on-soya-from-deforested-land"But instead of agreeing the ban, Cargill and ADM “led the push” for weaker language in the final statement, according to one person involved in the discussions between the 14 grain traders before Cop27."
Businesses *must* be excluded from COP conferences if we're to save our planet.
