  1. The #Ektorp I have now will need to go downstairs in order for the new couch to be set up. I suppose for something like this I will need to hire someone from #Taskrabbit or see about college move-in-move-out services. It's the Boston area. There are a LOT of college students. Services like that exist, I'm sure. My alternative involves finding out how to take a couch apart and seeing if I can haul individual components downstairs.

  5. Looking into the situation a little further.

I live in a third floor walkup. The couch will be shipping in multiple boxes if I order one, and according to various reviews I've seen, each box should be light enough for one person to get up a basic flight of stairs but will be much easier to move if I have some assistance. This is fine. However:

  10. I am... not entirely sure what an 8 back would feel like but I suspect that I am going to need to heap the cushions on.

... hm. okay. The rep said that the seat cushions on the 86" are 1.8 lbs/cubic inch density and 28 firmness. If I'm understanding this correctly, the 28 is the foam's rating. The foam I bought from Joann for replacement cushioning has an ILD score of 36, so it's somewhat firmer.

  15. 9/10 of what I've heard about couches has been great and most of the rest has applied to people having trouble with putting them together. The only reviews I've read for them that mention smell have said that they smelled like whatever wood was used in construction, nothing chemical or weird. I'm good with that. The slipcovers are supposed to be easy to clean and highly resistant to pet damage. I ordered one of their lumbar cushions as a test run. Feels like a decent piece of work. 3/7

  20. The middle of the couch is sagging at this point and IKEA no longer sells Ektorp couches in this country. I think they might still do it in Australia- anyway, point is, I don't want to get the replacement models they carry now because their design doesn't allow cushion flipping. Also because I don't want to deal with new-furniture smell from outgassing. I'm looking at couch options on .design because I'd like to get something , decent quality, and low . 2/7

  25. Currently considering my options re: replacing my couch. It's an #Ektorp three-seater from #IKEA that I bought used on Craigslist in... I dunno, 2011? 2012? One of those. I replaced the contents of one cushion last year with new foam but the OMG FEATHERS that spewed all over the place when I did so meant that trying to replace cushion 2 went poorly. 3 has not been replaced. I cannot deal with that many feathers unless I take the damn thing on a boat and open it at the rail. 1/7

  27. Woke up this morning craving salt. Figured I'd get fries and maybe halloumi from the local Greek place.

Read a BBC article a little before lunch about a UK school where the lunches were so bad that the school head had to shame the lunch provider on social media.

Went to #donorschoose , dropped the cost of a lunch at the Greek place on a teacher who needs funding for snacks, water, and hygiene to keep the kids focused. (donorschoose.org/project/snack)

    Gonna go make ramen now.

  28. okay, I tried listing this thing on #freecycle in January. I got one interested email and then never heard back from them. Might as well try it here.

Free to a good home: Metal #ironing board with heat reflective cloth cover. Unfolds to 35 inches high. Board is 53 inches long by 14 inches wide. Board has been in use for decades and never given me problems, I just needed a taller one for sewing work.

#Boston area, #northshore specifically. Will happily donate if appropriate charity wants it.

  29. The sitting-up thing, as far as I can tell, is what they call #ConfusionalArousal. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confusio) It might or might not be related to #explodingheadsyndrome - they're both considered #parasomnias but neither is all that well understood. Mostly they're considered harmless and best handled by de-stressing and trying to get more sleep. Maybe consuming more magnesium, too.
