"I wrote a response to Adam Bonica and Jake Grumbach’s piece in The New Republic about all the problems with the [Democratic Party fundraising] system. While I don’t agree with every point, it’s a very valuable article and points toward at least two straightforward if challenging-to-implement reforms. But we also shouldn’t lose sight of what an amazing accomplishment and how incredibly needed Democratic small donor fundraising is. It is a genuinely mass-based, non-oligarch system of funding political campaigns at a time when the Supreme Court has given billionaire oligarchs free rein to buy campaigns and offices at scale."

"Sources from three countries confirm that the Trump Administration has advocated Viktor Orbán for the role of United Nations Secretary-General. The U.S. has encouraged the former Hungarian Prime Minister to enter the race, even bringing him the initial idea."

This dog believes it is his job to alert the neighborhood to any change in routine, including a squirrel climbing a tree or a leaf blowing by. And he takes this responsibility extremely seriously

“I couldn’t get George out of my head. I was out doing errands and suddenly noticed foundry marks on nearly all the historic buildings I walked past on 2nd Avenue. Every 25 feet there was another mark. Practically all of them were George’s.”

Variety calls this Truth Social post “lengthy,” which kind of understates the matter. You really have to see it to believe it

This is Bill Maher’s reward for glazing Karoline Leavitt and telling his audience how much he likes having dinner with Trump

He is not the biggest loser today, but let’s take a moment to appreciate that one of the losers today is definitely Jim Caviezel

The article says that Brackley/Jackson was a poet and this one foray into prose was poorly received, which is too bad, because I would kill multiple men with a hammer to be able to write prose like that

“Entering detachedly, observing a person, you can sometimes so travel down the filament that you might wake up to find yourself walking off inside them, become them, so much by sympathy, yourself forgotten, and seeing the world from where they stand. Or looking more personally you catch the gleams of response to you and break into flower, building the arches of which our human life is made. A gleam from them gives you a foothold, one from you gives them more root, till the branches can grow and each stands, a tree, in the other’s atmosphere. This between you is an arch, by which each is drawn out upright; beneath which the heavenly bird flies, whose roost is not on this sphere.
“Held in your hand a person may blossom, break open and become transfigured. If everyone knew how ravishing they were the street would be blind with light.”

David Rubenstein, #Orioles owner, in the MLBPA crosshairs as one of the faces of the pending labor unrest with repeatedly regrettable remarks about salary caps and profits. MLB is pissed and #Birdland will likely pay for it. Here's how:

“Preliminary figures provided by Serbia's election commission indicated a record high turnout, which commentators had suggested would favour the student movement.
“Vučić had called the snap elections after two years of protests triggered by the 2024 collapse of a train station canopy in the city of Novi Sad, which killed 16 and was seen as emblematic of corruption and negligence in Serbia.”
-
“The long-serving strongman leader of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, conceded defeat on Sunday in an election that pitted him and his right-wing party against a diverse student-led opposition movement that spent two years protesting his government.
“It was a seismic political shift in the Balkan country where Vucic, who had been endorsed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and who denounced the student movement as a foreign-led attempt to unseat him, led with virtually absolute power for 14 years.”

“The bishop of Des Moines, Iowa, William Joensen, also issued a statement making clear he felt the White House had taken advantage of the bishops.
“‘I wish I had been more shrewd and less simple, like those who exploited our meeting for partisan political purpose,’ he wrote.”
-
“The president greeted us, took a seat at his desk and presented us with commemorative tokens. We were then directed to stand behind him and pray. After which several photos were taken and we were ushered out. Unbeknownst to the group of bishops a video was also taken. But permission for the public distribution or posting of either the video or photos was not given by the bishops.
“It did not take long thereafter for the White House to post a video and photos of the prayer.”https://www.archmil.org/posts/a-public-apology-archbishop-jeffrey-grob

“Harold Smith devised his straightforward system during World War II. After copyrighting it in the early 1950s, he became known as the ‘Father of Driver’s Education,’ eventually being hired by Ford Motor Company to pass on his techniques to the company’s drivers and many others around the country. Here, Mr. Smith introduces his system in a video titled The Smith System of No-Accident Driving, a video I found on YouTube while searching for, what else, old driver’s education videos. Yes, my life may not be that exciting, but it’s mine.”
