  1. Looks like @opensuse [1] are the next company evaluating whether to retain 32-bit Arm support.
Both of the main projects I work in - @nodejs [2] and #Temurin by @eclipseadoptium [3] have stopped building for it in recent releases.

How much use are you making of 32-bit Arm systems these days? Is 32-bit still relevant anywhere in 2025? #WorksOnArm

    [1] - fosstodon.org/@opensuse/114941
    [2] - Stopped at v24: github.com/nodejs/node/issues/
    [3] - Discontinued since last Java LTS (v21): github.com/adoptium/adoptium-s

  3. Also #java users out there should be aware that @fedora 42+ and EL10 based distributions such as @centos Stream 10 and RHEL10 no longer have "non-system" (21) versions of java. But the good news is you can now easily install @eclipseadoptium #Temurin via #EPEL e.g. to install Temurin JDK8:

    # For CS10/Fedora # dnf install epel-release
    # RHEL10 # rpm -ivh dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/
    dnf install -y adoptium-temurin-java-repository
    dnf --enablerepo=adoptium-temurin-java-repository install temurin-8-jdk

  7. Projects such as #Adoptium (#temurin) and #NodeJS rely on infrastructure provided by organisations like @osuosl particularly for pSeries equipment for Linux/ppc64le and AIX, but we also use aarch64 systems hosted by them. They are in need of additional funding for their support staff. Please consider donating to them particularly if you are using OSS on POWER architectures.

  10. In case anyone doubts the credentials of the #Jolla C2 as a true Linux device (there are a few such people in the @jolla #Facebook feed 🙄) : It's perfectly happy running the normal Linux/aarch64 binaries of @eclipseadoptium #Temurin #java #openjdk and @nodejs #NodeJS from the command line...

  14. If you need any more convincing that you should upgrade to a newer JDK version (Preferably #Temurin by #Adoptium if you're not already using it!) then here's the evidence from @stocker that you're being kinder to the environment by using later versions: medium.com/growing-green-softw

  18. Seems a shame to recycle these but I feel the chances of me ever doing low level #X11 GUI programming again is pretty much nonexistent ... #xwindows

  22. The SIGILL crash I was experiencing with JDK21 on the SiPeed LicheePi4 (LM4A) has been identified as a misdetection of the vector version capabilities (Board has 0.7 instead of 1.0 apparently)
Thanks to @ludovic_dev for identifying this and submitting github.com/openjdk/jdk/pull/15
I've got a new test build of jdk-21+35 with this fix at ci.adoptium.net/job/build-scri

In other news. I really want this case for my board but haven't seen it for sale yet ... 😉

  23. No-one would have believed it if we posted this yesterday, so today we are announcing that Eclipse #Temurin 21 and 22 are available as a GA headless release on #RISCV! #openjdk #java
    adoptium.net/en-GB/blog/2024/0
Thanks to @ludovic_dev and others at RISE for getting us here 🙂
You can also install it via the @jbangdev tool. Set JBANG_DEFAULT_JAVA_VERSION=21 first to get the GA version

  27. It's not quite an HDMI switch but maybe it's better? This is a #LicheePi4A #LM4A (but that's not too relevant) with the HDMI out connected to the HDMI IN on an #OrangePi 5 Plus and displaying in a window on the 5's desktop. Neat - this is the novel built in feature that made me want to get this particular version of the board.
