I tried to migrate to TrueNAS Scale 22.04 few months ago, but bounced off it *hard*.
The new, docker-based approach to apps seems much simpler to use, and the ability to user docker-compose to create custom apps (I used it twice already) is a very welcome feature.
All in all, TrueNAS Scale 24.10 isn't perfect, but considering it's been out for about 10 hours, I think it can be forgiven. Congratulations to ixSystems!

Today I migrated my TrueNAS Core server to a new motherboard and processor. Barring a brief hiccup where 2 of the data disks were disabled (by using an NVMe slot) all appeared well.
The onboard network card was incredibly unhappy though, with pings varying between 10ms and 10 full seconds. A few minutes of searching and I found the simple fix - two tunables instructing it to load a more recent driver on boot.
After doing that? Everything's peachy!

I installed TrueNAS Scale "Electric Eel" in a VM to take a look around the UI and it looks nice. Setting up a couple of services via docker seemed pretty reasonable, and I'm sure I'll be able to replicate my Core setup (currently based on jails) if I allocate a day to the migration and take my time with it.
I'll be sad to say goodbye to Core, but it will be nice to install an Intel Arc GPU and get hardware encoding/decoding in Jellyfin.

Obviously there were plenty of great papers, these were just a few I particularly liked. C23 is really nice, and I think C2y is already shaping up to be something quite special. :)

L'utilisation d'une application sur smartphone pour accéder à son compte bancaire m'agace au plus haut point. La digitalisation "facile" est un risque trop élevé, autant du point de vue technique qu'humain. Dommage que les banques n'offrent pas d'alternative, déjà rien que pour les personnes qui ne sont pas où plus en mesure d'utiliser les moyens technologiques (p.ex. personnes âgées)

Il semble que je ne suis pas la seule à avoir un problème avec la façon de faire de #postfinance. En 2022 un groupe linux bernois avait publié une lettre ouverte à ce sujet (https://lugbe.ch/postfinance-linux-2022-12-29.php). Je ne sais pas s'il y a eu une réponse.....

Il semble que #postfinance assume parfaitement que les restrictions techniques imposées à l'utilisation de son e-banking lui font perdre une bonne part de leur clientèle...

#postfinance ne permet plus de se connecter avec Windows 10 (32 bits). Maintenant, il faut du 64 bits. Surtout ne pas avertir avant... On est la fin du mois et pas moyen de faire ses paiements ...😡

Tonight is the last night before Mum goes home, so we went for a walk along the beach.
On the way back we spotted Guernsey's conservation herd (boy cows that are moved around the island to help manage certain patches of land by grazing on it). They've been hand-reared and so are very used to people.
We took a slight detour to say hello and they came over and let us stroke them and fed them grass - it was incredibly wholesome and they were so cute! :)

Today, Mum and I took a boat trip to Sark, where cars are not allowed (but the density of tractors is curiously high...). We took a horse and carriage ride around the island, which had beautiful views, before having scampi for lunch.
We shared a table with two complete strangers so that we could all sit down sooner. Then we got an ice cream made from local milk and got a tractor ride back to the boat.
A wonderful day, and relatively virtuous on the food-front too :)
