MS *is* doing it differently: instead of going the "cheap" (and imho disadvantageous) route that libc++ (and apparently libstdc++, too) is using, Stephan adopted the method that I was exploring in the time frame up until 2022 (in {fmt} and before). There, you have the exact same sources for either flavour - differentiated only by flipping a macro definition that expands to either 'export' for the standard module, or nothing in case of the 'naked' header files (that are also #included into the primary module interface in the other case).
The problem with libc++/libstdc++'s strategy lies in the fact that the exported entity is not the true definition, but rather an using declaration that leads to the originating definition elsewhere. Highly unfortunate for multiple reasons, but a seemingly easy way to deliver a standard library module compared to decorating each definition that you *really* want to expose. The former strategy seems to have repercussions with reflection as well. 🙄

Right, this is a tough challenge.Every time I thought I've found a good solution, tests with multiple compilers (possible thanks of @compiler_explorer) and different use cases, at least one of the requirements isn't met.
And then there are compiler implementation bugs. As an example: for the majority of msvc updates from the VS2019 timeframe, code execution isn't reliably stopped (or even at all) at compiletime, producting only compiler warnings. Or older gcc is in some cases totally silent, not even producing a single diagnostic.
Compiletime evaluation is one of the new C++ frontiers where QoI becomes a big differentiator.
The rules of constant expressions are not an easy read. But understanding them well is a prerequisite for e.g. becoming proficient in C++26 reflection.

Jeg er ikke sådan sitrende eller opsøgende #PeterSommer fan, men var heldig at få et par fribilletter til deres nye show, Alene Med Palle I Verden i #Horsens i går. Det var godtnok en lunefuld og melankolsk rutchebanetur, med en rar mand fra #Skanderborg i hånden. Masser af musik bundet sammen af berigende anekdoter. Et flot og intimt show, der varmt kan anbefales, hvad enten man er brændende fan eller bare syntes hans musik og stil er lidt spændende! Der var selvfølgelig merc og aflagt garderobe med, hvis man lige manglede noget vinyl og nogle autentiske Peter Sommer threads! 🙂
