A @threepointone's #metamonday. It is a bit puzzling that one of the arguments used to play down the chance of a Twitter competitor succeeding is that there aren't enough users in them. Tons of platforms seemed impossible to upend, and they are now shadows of their best times. Users are a massive advantage, but as with ecosystems in the libraries we build, they aren't a static moat. New libraries, platforms, and services are born constantly, and some will get enough traction. People will move, first slowly and then in mass. There are other good arguments to put on the table, but the idea that a particular product found a way to maintain its users no matter how bad things get isn't a good one.
