  1. "“What we saw during the encampments for Palestine, is Cornell persecuting protestors to the fullest extent that they could,” [Jack] Huber [an activist in Students for a Democratic Cornell] said, explaining that “there were dozens of arrests, even more suspensions, and in one case a deportation, all stemming from students protesting against the genocide in Palestine, which threatened Cornell’s Board of Trustees’ investments, and threatened Cornell’s image, and so Cornell weaponized its code against these students.”

In total, 15 students were suspended in 2024 for protesting against Israel’s genocide in Gaza on campus.

“Cornell has suspended more protestors for organizing than they have expelled and suspended rapists from 2018 to 2024,” Huber said."

  2. You know what's a thing I love about GrapheneOS? The granular permissions controls let me power down apps' tracking attempts that bog down my system by just cutting off the app's access to network permissions when I'm not using it. Music streaming apps in particular are churning out 1,000+ tracking attempts per hour. Day One, an encrypted, privacy-centric journaling app? Also tracking the hell out of you. It's a bit of a pain to navigate through settings to turn network permissions on and off manually every time I use an app, but it's worth it. I guess this wouldn't work for folks who want their apps to be able to ping them with notifications on an ongoing basis, but I keep that off anyway.

Hoping they can eventually build in a feature to have network permission allowed "only when the app is running" so the manual setting step isn't necessary anymore.
