  1. @jbqueru

Your response seems to me like a complete non sequitur.

    > problem well and can actually evaluate whether the problem is solved.

The problem here is "Google adding a new required authentication step which is physically impossible for many users to complete".

How exactly the user goes about "solving their own problem" here , as you say, is, I suppose, An Exercise Left To The Reader.

  5. Here's an #introduction

I'm a player of computer and console games, I'm also a demo coder, and I'm trying to blend the two into creating games for old hardware. I'm both experienced and newbie, depending on perspective.

I tend to write assembly on top of bare-metal hardware. #Motorola68000 for #AtariST, #Z80 for #Amstrad and #ZXSpectrum, hopefully more to come (I'm accepting suggestions).

This is a secondary account for me, my primary account is floss.social/@jbqueru

  6. @jbqueru True! The humanity BBQ has only just begun.

And the fire hose able to contain the man-made hellfire is fueled with renewables — non-fossil fuels, incorruptibility & politicians of integrity, taking their responsibility to serve the human beings, who elected them to do everything to ensure human survival very seriously.

  10. @eugenialoli @jbqueru What do you mean by ruler? If that means a vertical line at some column then Kate does have this. You can enable it via menu View → Word Wrap → Show Static Word Wrapper. The column can be set in Settings → Configure Kate → Editing → Wrap Words At.

  11. My husband's @jbqueru #RaspberryPi 5 setup, with the new monitor I got for him recently for his name day. He's writing a game for the AtariST currently. Let the coding commence.

  12. I was going to suggest to my husband @jbqueru to move to KDE's Kate code editor (currently he is using SublimeText, and previous VSCode), but there is no ruler feature on Kate. He kind of needs that for his arcane assemblers.

EDIT: sorted out, JBQ is switched to Kate.

  13. Installed #Linux #Mint 22 on my husband's @jbqueru Dell M6800 workstation laptop, and he's a happy puppy tonight, writing 68k #assembly for #AtariST.

  14. Some for the week:
-I was skiing on Monday, the resort was small but fun.
-I survived my company's layoffs even though most contractors got axed. Heck, I billed more hours for the first 3 weeks of December than I do in a typical month.
-I got pinged by another company for what seems like an interesting opportunity, the level is right, the problem space is interesting.

  15. A double today:

-I found a liquor store close to home that has a wide selection of good bottles, including some great scotch (in a place where a basic single malt is considered a top-of-the-line luxury). Not bad for a town of 22k people.

-I got my coding tools set up on a RPi5. Most of them compiled out of the box. A single one needed a tiny bit of love, I'll be working with the maintainers on that. We even almost ordered a RPi500 with its cute monitor, but couldn't justify it.

  16. Political : Austria has unblocked Bulgaria and Romania from entering the Schengen Area, which means, that, for the first time, Greece will have a Schengen path over land to the rest of the (continental) Schengen space. And, which means that it'll become a lot more practical for me to visit Bulgaria, which is just a few hours from home.

  17. A delayed : as I drove back home from my ski trip, I couldn't help but marvel at the beauty of Greek mountains in winter: becasue there are multiple mountain ranges close to one another, those landscapes are complex and varied.

  18. My for today is a surprise day of ski, in Vigla, the single ski resort in Greece that was open today: fair weather, no crowds, good snow (90 cm / 3 ft of recent snowfall), and nice views. 4800 m / 16000 ft of vertical, and I didn't fall once.

This was my first ski trip ever in Greece, my first ski in almost two years, and only my second ski day in more than 6 years.

  19. With the competition results being out for WE 2024, my is that some people liked my demo enough to vote for it, even though there had been no intent to win anything, we just entered the competition because we had something ready.

  20. With the competition results being out for #SillyVenture WE 2024, my #DailyPositive is that some people liked my demo enough to vote for it, even though there had been no intent to win anything, we just entered the competition because we had something ready.

  24. A late , good tidbits:

-I did a second release of my demo, with a minor bugfix and some good improvements in the packaging script.

-The heavy rain we got here was actually snow in the mountains, one ski resort is open with 90cm of snow (3ft), I might go later this week.

-We let the kitten into the house today, she was mostly nice, spent a lot of time cuddling and playing, she seems to understand that she gets sent back out when she misbehaves.

  25. A very happy : today I released my first demo in over 30 years. This might also be my first personal software release in about 25 years, though I'm less certain about that.

It feels oddly good to have created something that is now available for the world to enjoy (or, at least, for the handful of old-school folks who still enjoy that optimized code can get things done without gigabytes and gigahertz).

  26. Some : I gave myself a day of respite from the daily grind of life. I spent the day between playing video games, cuddling with my cat, coding for ZX Spectrum, starting to work on some paper polyhedra craft, and a long nap.

I'm feeling well rested, the stress from the long list of things still to be done is leaving me alone for now.

  27. : I got a new French ID card. The last time I got a new French ID, I was a teenager. Now I'm over 50. Time flies!

I tried to take it easy on the drive to Thessaloniki and back. Result: 3.4l/100km (68 mpgUS), mostly freeway. I like my small hybrid, it's a good middle ground for my needs.

  28. : Surprise trip to Thessaloniki for some paperwork, the drive went very smoothly, I had no problem finding my hotel, and I got to visit some of the city, which is very pleasant. Plus, I got to ride the metro within the first week of operation, which adds one more metro to my collection...

  29. Another : we got a used Thinkpad X280, which we like a lot: excellent keyboard, same weight as a current MacBook Air, 1080p screen, user-replaceable battery and SSD, and very well supported under Linux. Cost us about $150+tax for an 8GB version. Only drawback: the RAM is not upgradeable.
