My theory:
I guess the #homeview will have an AppStore and native Apps in homeOS 28. Follows the Watch playbook in that way: watchOS 1 had remote apps that barely worked, watchOS 2 had local apps. They planned the same for homeOS with remote widgets like on the Mac for version 1. But somehow they weren't happy with this and decided to skip this step.

I read a lot of takes like this today, but I don't think that’ll be an issue mid-term.
The standard that everything converges (or bridges) to is Matter. There devices are organized in "Fabrics“. Home Assistant will get it’s devices from a Matter Fabric, as does Apple Home or all the others. Currently everyone has their own Fabric. Every device supports a minimum of 5 fabrics at the same time (that's called Multi-admin), but it's cumbersome to add devices.
Matter 1.6 has a „Joint Fabric“. Add your device there, and it's in Apple Home, Home Assistant and every other ecosystem that supports it. Problem solved.

Ok, cool, but why can't those multi-port USB-C chargers not also be a USB-hub for the device on the first port? https://www.anker.com/ultimate-travel-charging-duo

Ok, hate to link to X, but… That device really looks like it's getting an AppStore in homeOS 28.
It has actual Apps and even has Safari.

This is how the #homeview looks next to a HomePod 1st gen and an iPad mini running #wallflower. Interestingly the display is a lot bigger than I thought!
Got the #visonpro out for that using Apples 3d model from their website, zoomed to 100%, and usually the size is very accurate.

The HomeView for the wall needs an additional Wall Mount, and that is available with a cable, AC wiring or POE (!). Super interesting, but not included. And the way it plugs in seems to be a combination of magnets and USB-C (!!). And those wall mounts seem to be not made by Apple but Schneider Electric (!!!)

Overall: Apple strengthens (or should we say: introduces?) their Home ecosystem, but does not do anything nearly as complex as a bigger screen dashboard such as https://nxtbgthng.com/wallflower could do. I should be very happy :-)

They clearly didn't ship or announce everything in HomeView/homeOS. For example, where are the widgets and live activities that your iPhone could display on the HomeView if you're standing in front of it? It's a macOS feature, but that was clearly made for homeOS and didn’t make the cut.

HomeView: Hardware looks great. $299 is a great price, too. But it’s as inflexible as an Apple Watch Watchface. No 3rd Party Apps. Home „Face“ is 9 devices max. You decide between calendar/home/clock/weather etc, it doesn’t seem to be too about this. Essentially it’s a screen for Siri and Facetime. There is a LOT of reasons to get an iPad on the wall too. And in the EU you have to, because it's not available here.

Wow, I’m blown away.
⁃ If Internet is down, the router can just use iPhone Tethering!
⁃ Matter/Thread is fully integrated!
⁃ Custom Icons - Finally!

Apple developer experience is like „Be Ready for the iPhone Duo on day one!“, and „That Version you submitted THREE WEEKS AGO? We like to take 1+ weeks per review cycle, and haven't approved that 3-week-old pre-iPhone-Duo build yet. Oh and btw, if you want to test on device, we don't have space in the labs.“
So no, I will not hand in an iPhone Duo build before previous versions are approved. If Apple does not care for their developers schedules, why should developers care for Apples?
They deserve every single „The apps are not ready for the Duo“ review that they will get.

Ok, so „HomeView“ won't have an AppStore and rely fully on Widgets and Siri, iOS Home App will mostly stay as it is, and Apple will push the ecosystem by introducing „Apple Home Collection" devices with partners that aren't that different from what's already on the market.
I expected more change than this, but we’ll see tomorrow. I mean a developer in this ecosystem I appreciate *any* kind of change, so I know what I’m at. There's a lot of gaps to fill, the more the merrier. I’m ready for it.
