My first smartphone was a Nokia e61. I think I was 15 and purchased it on SomethingAwful’s SA-Mart, which was a sub-forum for buying and selling. I actually bought and sold a lot on there, as a teenage boy even, because the level of trust in that community was so high.
As a teenage boy I also bought and sold used devices and accessories on Aximsite, a PocketPC forum.
I grew up very isolated and rather discouraged, so being able to do this must’ve given me some sense of agency and place in the world, which I really got from the Internet in my teen years.
