Iuj kelkfoje donas al ĝi prefere hindan originon, sed la fakto estas, ke iuj afrikaj popoloj, kiel la pigmeoj de Burundo (ili nomiĝas la Tŭa aŭ Batŭa - "ba" estas la plura marko), tradicie konsumis kanabon en akvopipoj.
