  1. We held a little cheese and booze party for our neighbours in our tiny flat and everyone got on famously. About halfway through the snow turned up too and I took this photo from our window. There are some moments that money can’t buy.

  2. Captain Lossius and Captain Dixon, who commanded riverboats on the Canton to Hong Kong run. Quite a lot of data on these fellows online. Lossius met his wife in Manchester and had a narrow escape during a typhoon. They are buried in Hong Kong, just metres from where I lived in the 1980s. Dixon was nearly killed by pirates but died of natural causes on his ship in Shanghai.
