    Found a fascinating picture among my wife's family photos – young women sunning themselves on a boat deck, probably sometime in the 1940s. No idea where, though likely in Utah.

    There's very little this casual, this everyday, anywhere in our old family photos.

    Captain Lossius and Captain Dixon, who commanded riverboats on the Canton to Hong Kong run. Quite a lot of data on these fellows online. Lossius met his wife in Manchester and had a narrow escape during a typhoon. They are buried in Hong Kong, just metres from where I lived in the 1980s. Dixon was nearly killed by pirates but died of natural causes on his ship in Shanghai.
