#Newcastle Airport firefighters have completed training on the new Tyne and Wear #Metro #trains to prepare for emergencies involving the fleet.
Delivered by Metro operator Nexus, the sessions covered carriage layouts, fire detection, emergency access, braking, power supplies, batteries, alarms, intercoms, jacking points and the locations of extinguishers and defibrillators.
More than 40 firefighters provide 24/7 emergency cover at the airport, responding to aircraft incidents, fires and medical emergencies.
Nexus said the training would help emergency services respond effectively to the new Stadler trains. Similar sessions have been delivered to Northumbria Police and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service.
All 46 new Metro trains have now been delivered and the fleet provides all daily services.

Malaysia’s Ministry of #Transport and Singapore’s Land Transport Authority have been informed that passenger services on the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link are now expected to begin in February 2027.
The revised target is subject to RTS Operations Pte Ltd completing final testing and trial runs, obtaining independent safety certification and securing regulatory approval in both countries.
Infrastructure works in #Singapore and #Malaysia are substantially complete and remain on track to support the start of passenger services. RTSO expects to complete final system tests and trial runs by 31 December 2026, after which an independent assessor will review the system for safety certification.
Authorities in both countries will then consider the certification before granting approval for passenger operations. The two governments said they will continue working with RTSO to support the safe and smooth delivery of the project.

From 2 October 2026, airlines will be required to seat children under 14 with a parent or accompanying adult free of charge, under new #government plans aimed at reducing travel costs for families. Parents can currently face up to £104 in return fees to sit with their child.
Passengers will also be able to correct simple name errors on bookings without charge, ending fees that can reach £40.
The government is also working with airlines and trade unions on a system to share information about persistently disruptive passengers. More than 1,000 serious incidents were recorded by airlines in 2025.
The reforms are intended to provide greater consistency across #UK airlines and will follow Royal Assent of the Civil Aviation Bill.
