“Trees at Base of Cliff” — Dense trees grow at the base of a sandstone cliff, Zion National Park.

The main thing that fascinates me about canyons in the Southwest is, of course, the remarkable colors and textures of the sandstone walls. As a “Sierra Nevada guy,” I am used to a world of mostly rather gray rocks, so the red rock shades are almost shocking. While we were in #ZionNationalPark , we visited Maynard Dixon Museum on the east side of the park, where he and his second wife had a cabin and art studio. It's lovingly maintained, warm and cozy; it was as if the artist might come out and say hi any moment. If I had a studio like this, I'd never leave.
