  1. After severe bushfires in 2013 and 2019, the woodlands are still nearly devoid of foliage. 'Normal' bushfires usually just burn dropped leaves and small plants on the ground. Hot bushfires kill the entire tree. Both fires were extremely hot, driven by high wind speeds and 6 month droughts beforehand. There are still wrecks of engines along the line, vandalised by yobbos in 2018. The engines which could be saved are acts of pure heroism. #zigzagrailway

  2. The engine pushes the train up the mountain on the outbound trip but pulls it on the return. The coal smoke was eye wateringly acrid and bits of coal ash and sand from the coal pile at the station fell from the exhaust plume. There's a short tunnel on the return where the steam exhaust mixes with coal smoke to become a thick sauna. Diesel exhaust would have been a lot nicer. If you are riding on a steam train, it is the law that you must wave at anyone watching the train pass. #zigzagrailway

  3. A fairly short ride on the grand re-opening day, about 15 minutes each way, from Clarence to Top Points and back. #zigzagrailway
