  2. In fiction, less is more. Don't be too literal, don't lay out everything, according to this video.

  3. My fantasy short story, "A Mountain Retirement", is now available in issue 3 of Plott Hound Magazine (a new magazine featuring stories that “dig deep into what it’s like to be an animal yet also teach us what it means to be human”).

    My story features a dragon!

  4. When story comes into a dream

Usually it is other way around for me

My dreams and especially my nightmare inspire my stories and give me new story ideas. But today it was story that I’m already working on creating that did come into my dreams. Waking up and start immediately writing down to my phone’s note app the most important parts from the dream. That I won’t forget it. So now I have new things add for this story. That I wasn’t even thought in the first place. So thankful for my dream.

But still the dream was more into a nightmare territory. But considering what this spin-off story is about it was very fitting. Dream about shallow grave in woods that victim’s sister visit after victim had been found. Quite heavy topic and emotions in the dream. Plus the forest was little bit darker side and the open shallow grave didn’t help with it. But now I have the perfect mental image I can use in my writing.

I need to make a bigger writing update some point

Because there are so many new things related to the my rock star book series. All these new parts that I have added. Including this new spin-off story. That is related to new side plot for book 3 of a first rock star book series.

But I need to first write down and organize all these stories way it makes sense to others. Because this story world is just growing bigger and bigger. There will be all these new shorter story parts now. It is safe to say I’m still super inspired and the inspiration is not stopping. And now these stories apparently are coming into my dreams. lol

  5. When writing romance stories (especially harem stories), I purposefully create my characters and relationships first because I believe a major flaw in some stories is how they feel unnatural. Like they fall in love because they have to.

  10. "The formal conceit of these novels is to represent the feeling of being online. But a novel that truly said something new about being online probably wouldn’t mention the internet at all. This hypothetical True Internet Novel would not use the words Instagram or meme, or even based. It wouldn’t be self-conscious."

  15. For those who uses #Obsidian to write stories, be it long form or short stories, what's your workflow for writing? Currently I'm trying to find options to see which one works for me.

    Before this, I'm following
Eleanor Konik's workflow and Vanessa Glau's, modified it little by little, but at the end of it I see that it doesn't really work for me, and that's why I need some pointers. It doesn't need to, but if you integrated plugins here and there in your workflow, I would like to hear it. Thanks!

"At high enough levels, learning magic is annoying. Take everything you ever hated about school, now add magical powers. And unlike what A Certain Terf Who Will Not Be Named would have you think, there's no boarding school that covers it."

"You may have noticed that magical types drink a lot of herbal teas. It's frequently put forth as this cool and mystical thing that's supposed to "center you" and help you access "divine powers" or whatever. All bullshit."

  18. The first day of NaNoWriMo ended with my office curtains falling down and Storm Ciaran flinging wheelie bins around.

An omen on word counts to come?

    We shall see.

At any rate, here's a recap of my Day One. How're y'all doing?

    🤷‍♂️

This is the first time I've heard of m or em dashes. I looked it up and apparently there's also n or en dashes and the usual hyphens. Plus a 3m dash.

Is it necessary to know about his sort of thing to write fiction?

I've written essays and an art degree dissertation without any issues. Maybe only experienced writers and advanced Eng Lit students learn this stuff.

  22. So, I've just done my writerly accounts for 2022 - 290 pieces published this year (200 last year) out of the 580 pieces published since I started this submitting business properly in October 2019.

Obviously, there is always more to achieve and that book deal isn't going to magic itself out of thin air, but - given the year I've had and some of the difficulties - the turning up every day thing has worked!

  24. Today's piece for you - back to stories (after a long run of poetry) for a piece on Cloning. Another prompt that was gifted to me - as so many of these pieces are (every one, in fact, for over a month now).

    I hope you like it.

  25. Good evening, lovely people of Mastodon. Here is some #writing for you, as part of my continuing promise (do promises continue??? Let's imagine they do) to provide new material for you to read every day.

This is a favourite of mine from some time back.

It's still good, though, I think.
