  1. An anecdote to see if this is part of a big pattern driven by capitalist greed.

I eat a lot of #Carman's Classic Fruit and Nut Toasted #Muesli. I'd been buying it from Coles and felt the fruit-and-nut content had diminished a little recently.

Then, a week or so back, I bought a bag from #Supabarn in Lyneham (née IGA) and was surprised how very fruity it was. I bought another bag from them today, and it was the same (quite possibly the same batch).

    This got me wondering.

Given how #Coles and #Woolworths squeeze producers, are there some products for which the producers use the same packaging to produce a good version for general retail and a less good version to sell to the supermarkets so the can retain a margin? If I shop elsewhere, will I find that the fish in tins of tuna (which I only buy for someone else) aren't always now 50% water?

  2. "#MellowVans are South African-developed and -manufactured road-legal three-wheel electric delivery vehicles that provide low-cost and emission-free last-mile transport for e-commerce distribution.

The vehicles, manufactured at MellowVans’ #Stellenbosch factory using 70% local content, are popular among South African brands who deploy them as part of their delivery fleet, including #Takealot, #Spar, #Woolworths and #DHL."

  3. A farmer from New South Wales recently visited Japan and discovered that Australian #meat was being sold in Tokyo for less than it costs in major Australian supermarkets. Analysts argue that direct comparisons can be "misleading" without accounting for factors such as global import competition, differences in meat cuts, and exchange rate fluctuations. Although #Coles and #Woolworths have denied allegations of price gouging, the #ACCC is set to release an interim report on its inquiry into supermarkets by August.
