I twisted in the woman’s grip. “Let me go!” I screamed.

She slapped me so hard with her other hand that I tasted blood.

“Die, brat!” her voice, low and deadly, hissed in my ear. Her breath, scented with mint, brushed my face. That scent has sickened me ever since.

I continued to squirm, feeling my shirt begin to tear, only to be struck so brutally that my head spun. Dazed, I ceased to resist.

“Let my Sumi-chan go!” Sis yelled.

The lady staggered when a storm of blows rained down on her back. Hope sprang up; my sister hadn’t abandoned me. Pure fury blazed in her face as she #whaled on my attacker.

However, any relief I might have felt was short-lived when I saw the knife our captor had drawn. She whirled around to face her assailant. “Die, whelp!”

The woman’s arms flailed wildly, jerking me around. The blade was a blur of ill-aimed blows while she continued raving: “Die, brat, die…”

My attacker’s wrist struck my mouth. I ignored the pain and bit down.

“...Ahh!” she screamed and lost her grip on the knife.

But that didn’t stop her. “Got you!” she said, using her newly freed hand to grab Sis.
