Wendron, Cornwall
One old, one ancient... The sundial is clearly a sundial, marked with the date 1770 but set rather too high to read! The granite carving in the foreground is not only broken and highly eroded but decked with lichen, its previous form not immediately apparent. It's the head of a wayside cross with a short part of the shaft. The ring head (indicated by the holes) and the bosses suggest a pre- Norman date, maybe mid-C10 to C11.

The little known menhir at Lezerea Farm near Burras in the parish of Wendron, between Redruth and Helston in Cornwall. Photographed from the south-west on 9 May 1993. The stone, almost 10 ft or 3 m high, was set in a concrete base about 50 years ago. #Wendron #Cornwall #Menhirs #Megaliths #StandingStoneSunday

The SE Nine Maidens Stone Circle, also known as Wendron South, near Troon in Cornwall. This photo, taken from the east on the 9th May 1993, shows the remaining four stones of the north-west arc of the south-east stone circle of an original pair. Another stone survives in situ in the hedge and another has been moved to the hedge. Only two stones of the north-west circle survive, both are in the hedge. #Cornwall #Kernow #Wendron #Troon #StoneCircles #Megaliths #StandingStoneSunday
