"Hazardous Waste collection is the FIRST Saturday of each month April thru November between 7:30 AM and 1:00 PM. If near a holiday, please check the holiday schedule to see if we are open. If we are closed on the weekend that would be hazardous waste day it will normally be skipped entirely for that month.
You may want to visit www. PaintCare. org for paint disposal options in your area.
#RiversideRecycling accepts #HouseholdHazardousWaste ( #HHW ) on the 1st Saturday of the month (April through November.) Collection occurs from 7:30AM to 1PM. This program is open to all Maine residents disposing of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) from their residence. Portland E-Card holders may dispose of up to 10 gallons of HHW annually with a maximum of TWO visits at no charge (i.e. two visits of 5 gallons each visit, or one visit with 10 gallons will use up the HHW portion of your E-Card for the year). Acceptable paint, stain and varnish can be disposed of at no charge as part of the PaintCare .org program and does not go against the HHW portion of your Ecard. Residential customers without an Ecard will be charged $6.50 per gallon for liquid wastes or $3.50 per pound for solid wastes. Unfortunately, we cannot accept #HazardousWaste from businesses or municipalities..
How will the drop off program work?
- Prepare your household hazardous waste for drop off. When preparing hazardous items for disposal at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility, be sure that liquids are in sturdy leak-proof containers with caps or lids. Use the original container whenever possible. Secure breakable or loose items inside boxes or bags. Do not mix items together. Be careful that no items spill or break when they are in your vehicle.
- Bring your items to Riverside Recycling, 910 Riverside St. on the 1st Saturday of the month (April through November.) Collection occurs from 7:30AM to 1PM. When you arrive at the facility, stop at the attendant’s booth and speak with the attendant. ALL HAZARDOUS WASTE MUST BE DROPPED OFF BEFORE RECYCLING ANY OTHER ITEMS.
- Follow any directions you receive at the attendant’s booth and proceed into the facility. When you pull up at the HHW facility, stay in your vehicle. The HHW staff will handle removing your items for you."FMI:

#LincolnNE - #HazToGo Fall Mobile Events Offer Free, Convenient Disposal of #HouseholdWaste
Aug 31, 2026
"As fall approaches, many of us start tackling seasonal #cleanup projects, organizing the garage, clearing out the basement, or getting storage areas in order before the colder months arrive.
That often means rediscovering things that have been tucked away for months or even years: half-used cans of oil-based #paint, old #pesticides, cleaning #chemicals, #solvents, or leftover #AutomotiveFluids sitting on a shelf.
Over time, these everyday products can become #HouseholdHazardousWaste, and disposing of them improperly can create serious environmental risks. Chemicals poured down drains or thrown in the trash can pollute waterways, create hazards for sanitation workers and affect wildlife and the environment.
Fortunately, Lincoln and Lancaster County residents have convenient options for disposing of these materials safely.
Twice each year, the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department hosts Household Hazardous Waste Mobile Collection events, bringing safe disposal services directly into local communities. These drive-through events make it easy for residents to clear potentially dangerous materials out of garages, basements and storage areas.
Residents simply gather unwanted household chemicals, place them in a leak-proof tote and bring them to one of the collection locations.
The fall events are a particularly good opportunity to tackle those clean-out projects before winter arrives and safely dispose of materials you no longer need.

Best of all, the service is provided at no cost to residents of Lincoln and Lancaster County.
HaztoGo Collection at Star City Shores
For residents who cannot attend one of the fall mobile events, there is no need to wait. The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department operates HazToGo - , Lincoln’s Hazardous Waste Center, a convenient, year-round site offering the same household hazardous waste disposal services.
Programs like these play an important role in keeping our local environment healthy and safe. Sometimes protecting the environment starts with something simple: cleaning out a shelf in the garage and bringing those materials to a place where they can be handled the right way.
For additional information about accepted materials, event details or HazToGo, visit HazToGo .com."
