Saw the first paper #wasp queen claiming one of the #WaspHouse-s this afternoon in our #communityGarden plot—#GardenPlot14! 🥰 *made my day*

I believe they inherit the memory of their ancestors’ unsuccessful nest building in our plastic garden tool storage bench, and of the failed nest having been moved to the wooden wasp house nearby.

This wasp queen was hovering near the tool bench before deciding to go into the wasp house. They can learn, but it seems to take a few generations. 🏠🐝✨

Happy to see the paperWasps in the wasp-house are thriving in my community garden plot. 🥰💓🐝✨

Three wasp houses for paperWasps now. We’ll see how they do.

This spring, two more queen wasps made their nest inside of the plastic storage bench. But the surface is too slick for their nest to stay attached when they get too big to support the weight. I’ve carefully attached their nests to two new waspHouses last week while the weather was still cool.

I found one of the paperWasp nests in the bottom of the storage bench (detouched from the slick plastic inner wall), still intact and guarded by the queen. While the queen wasp warily flew around me, I put it inside the new wasp house and situated it next to the one we made last year. I really hope she finds it. They’re in the background of this pic (in the top left) of green beans and snap peas protected by wire mesh cages.

We made a new wasp house for another paperWasps queen who made her nest in the storage bench in my plot. I’ve used wood glue instead of screws for this one. I’ll carefully attach the paperWasp hive inside at the garden while the temperature is still cool. We need another one for the second queen.

We have to make more proper housing for paperWasps. Two more queens have built their nests in the garden storage bench. 😆

They’re docile wasps, and it takes a lot to get them rowed up, but it’d be safer for them to be relocated, as we open the lid often to access the tools.

The queen in the wooden #waspHouse has made a new nest—if you look closely, there’s an orange antenna and the wing behind the nest.

Yesterday at my community garden plot, I witnessed one of the paperWasps returning from outside. She landed on the entrance floor, then climbed up the back wall. I’m pleased with my design of the #WaspHouse. 🥰💕🐝

I don’t know if it’s the same queen who originally built a nest in the underside of the small plastic storage bench (the first photo shows the part of it in the left). I attached the nest under the roof of the waspHouse.

I don’t see the #paperWasp queen in there from this angle (the only angle I can stick my phone’s selfie cam). It was a cooler day, and they stay on top of the nest to rest, so it’s possible we can’t see her—but that’s just my wishful thinking. I want this to work so bad. 🤞🐝💕

Had a chance to relocate the small #paperWasp nest to the #waspHouse this evening.
As I suspected, the nest wasn’t well-adhered to the smooth plastic lid. It would have fallen off eventually as the nest gets bigger/heavier. It came off easily.
The queen flew around nervously while we worked to set it up. I forgot to bring a button, so I sacrificed one from my shirt.
I didn’t see her find her nest in the new location. Pls send good vibes her way! Thank you.🙏❤️🏠🐝

Here’s the #waspHouse we made, using some scrap wood. The front opens for access needed for this case. We’ll attach it to the wooden stake and place it near the storage bench in which the queen made the nest. I love paperWasps. They’re beautiful.
