Spent all afternoon prepping the remaining 3 beds (there are total of 7, peas, onions, radishes, and herbs are already in) at our community garden plot. Transplanted the self-spouted cilantros, added compost, and covered them with weed-block cloths. All I have to do is prepare the seedlings. *easy peasy*
Harvested quite a bit of arugulas!! -
Had a nice late afternoon tidying up inside and around our #communityGarden #GardenPlot14 ✨
-
Cleaning up the plot is a back-aching job…😭 but I love it!
I’ve found a couple of burdock on the footpath, so I transplanted them.
The rhubarb is looking good. Still small though. I just need to dig up the lemonBalm that’s growing right behind it.
And comfrey! The pollinators love this herb. It makes great compost.
I also cleaned up outside of the fence, added soil and compost, and sowed some wildflower seeds. Hopefully “April showers” will make them grow. -
My red onions are growing!!! 😭💜
Today, I’ve planted some more supermarket scallions (which will become fat green onions), and harvested some 1st-of-the-season garlic chives (ニラ).

Saw the first paper #wasp queen claiming one of the #WaspHouse-s this afternoon in our #communityGarden plot—#GardenPlot14! 🥰 *made my day*
I believe they inherit the memory of their ancestors’ unsuccessful nest building in our plastic garden tool storage bench, and of the failed nest having been moved to the wooden wasp house nearby.
This wasp queen was hovering near the tool bench before deciding to go into the wasp house. They can learn, but it seems to take a few generations. 🏠🐝✨

Started to cleanup our plot at the #communityGarden a bit this evening, planted a bed of red onion sets around the marjoram (and the nesting material) and a few green onions (scallions from the supermarket). I’m counting on the spring rain. 🤞☔️💧🧅

Arugula is still blooming in my community garden plot!

Happy to see the paperWasps in the wasp-house are thriving in my community garden plot. 🥰💓🐝✨
-
Lotsa tomatoes from the community garden this year. And I haven’t bought a single plant! The heirloom and Roma tomato seedlings were given by a fellow gardener who ran out of space in her plot and the grape tomatoes grew from the seeds of the supermarket ones. They’re all delicious! 🍅✨
-
Found a couple of very ripe bittermelons 🧡
Et voilà, the airFried bittermelon fillets!! 😋

I was trying to take a photo of the paperWasps inside of one of the waspHouses in my community garden plot this evening. This one came out to protest wasp paparazzi. They’re so cute. 😆🥰💗🤨🐝✨

Transplanted three wild burdock plants in my community garden plot this evening.

Other recent haul from #gardenPlot14. I only grow what grows well without much effort* in my plot.
*compost, water and lots of sun—that’s about it
Descriptions are in the AltTexts 😉
-
👆🍅 I had to pick some of the large ones because they were weighing down the plants too much. I underestimated them to grow so big so fast. I didn’t have the support structures ready.
-
Bumblebee is hard at work on the green bean flowers in my community garden plot. 🤍🐝✨💕*grateful*
-
And sweet basils are growing at last. I love the taste of basils to the point I snack on them sometimes.
-
Arugula went to flower 🌸🪴✨
-
Pretty good harvest today. Bittermelons are doing so well in the bouts of heatwaves.
Pls see the AltText for names of the greens.
-
Garlic chives in my community garden plot.
When they flower, bees love them. Sometimes, cottontail babies shelter among them.
-
The rains also brought dragonfly army! This one guards my community garden plot from mosquitos.

After two nights of rain and warm weather, everything grew exponentially in my #communityGarden plot. 💚🌱✨
-
Marjoram is one of my fav go to herbs. I pretty much add it to everything I cook. 🌿✨ It’s more antioxidant than oregano, and goes with everything. Super herb!
Two photos are a month apart.

It was a beautiful day, a bit too windy, which ended up helpful against mosquitos. Tidied up outside of the fence for wildflowers as well as some leftover veggie for wildlife.
My plot looks as neat as it’d look before it gets out of hands.
So, I’m sipping some ginger tea with cinnamon stick to ease the pain—gardening is much more strenuous than gym workout! 😭 Still have more to plant! 🌱✨🤪
-
Planted two remaining tiny kales that had been growing on the #IndoorShelfGarden since last spring for our ratties.
-
So very happy with these Lacinato kales!! 🥬✨ *grateful*
-
Not much to show yet, but the background trees greening outside of the community garden look pretty in the evening sun, aren’t they?
-
We made a new wasp house for another paperWasps queen who made her nest in the storage bench in my plot. I’ve used wood glue instead of screws for this one. I’ll carefully attach the paperWasp hive inside at the garden while the temperature is still cool. We need another one for the second queen.
-
Went to plant 3 Dino-kale and 2 celery plants in my community garden plot today. The kales have been on the bright window shelf since last year, as bonsai kales. lol
The supermarket celery got rooted in the fall. Hope they thrive in the garden. 🪴✨☀️Now I can use the shelf to sprout veggie seeds!
-
*squee* I’m so happy to see the paperWasps are in the house!!!
We went to clean up the communityGarden plot this afternoon. I saw a paperWasp flew by me, so I checked the waspHouse we made for them last summer when a queen had built a nest in the plastic storage bench. 💗🐝
-
Roma tomatoes from my community garden plot so far. They’re grown on the accidental winter sprouts in the #indoorShelfGarden by the window. When I planted them outside, they looked hopeless. But tomatoes grow like weeds. The first batch of red tomatoes were stolen by the small critters. So I’m ecstatic to get these. The green ones will turn red soon. They’re delicious. 🤗❤️🍅✨
-
I wish I knew what was going on between the paperWasp and the hoverFly-like wasp. The paperWasp (on the right) seemed to be guarding the okra flower bud while the other wasp seemed to be bothering.
[edit: originally I assumed the other wasp to be a hoverFly.]
-
The tomato that sprouted in the #IndoorShelfGarden in December (2023) now has lots of fruits! 🌱💚 I can’t wait!! 🤗🍅✨

Now there are 3 paperWasps in the wasp house in my community garden plot! 😍🥰🐝🐝🐝✨
@nev 🧡💛
-
They still live in my community garden plot. 🥰🐰🐰🐰💚
-
#BabyCottontail rabbits are doing well in my community garden plot, too. A long story short, my plot serves as a nursery. Every. Year. 🥹🥰😂🐰🐇🐇🐇🐇 *location, location, location*
-
The #PaperWasp queen in the #WaspHouse is well. 🥰🫶🏠🐝
-
Squash, squash, BUNNY! 🤩😆❣️🐇
-
Here’s one for the #bunnybuttFriday 🐰🍑✨💕
-
The baby cottontail buns are growing up fast in the herb bed in my community garden plot. 🥹🥰💕🐰✨ They were out of the nest, and we got a glimpse of them this evening!
By the way, their mom is always lurking nearby. -
Got more kale from the #communityGarden. First baby summer squashes! And PEAS!! 💚
By the way, the cottontail babies in the herb bed are doing well in the nest! (🐰🐰 🐇 I peeked. 👀🥰)
Everything is growing well. 🙏🌧️ Cucumbers have many flowers.
-
#GivePeasAChance! 💚🐰☮️
#GardenPlot14 #humaneGardenPls read AltText for explanation.

Huston, we have a nest…? 👀🐰
It’s not the first time. I’m pretty sure it’s a cottontail nest. They’ve been using my herb bed for several years.
Good thing, I’ve planted a whole bed of Lacinato kale. They’re caged and protected now, but I’ll share when they’re plenty. 🌱✨
-
Planted some tiny basil, cilantro and arugula seedlings in some pots in my community garden plot. Hope they don’t get eaten by little creatures that live in my plot. 😆🤞The summer squash and zucchini seedlings have visibly grown and looking healthy.
