The accidental* butternuts are thriving. There are many squashes growing.
*I mistook butternut seeds for yellow summer squash 😅
-
Did I show you this tree-like sunflower? It’s not flowering yet, but already ginormous! 🌻✨
-
Oh, and the tomatoes! We’ve got lots of tomatoes as our condo neighbor gave me a big pot of many seedlings. I also sowed two plum tomatoes and six grape tomatoes. Plus the volunteer cherry ones. I never buy tomato seedlings anymore, yet I end up with lots of tomato plants every season. 😆🍅🍅🍅✨

We harvested the red onions and planted a Japanese taro yesterday.
-
So, I wasn’t sure if the cottontail mom would nest in the raised herb bed because I planted onion sets this spring, but she didn’t disappoint us! 😂🥰🐰🐇🐇 This evening, we saw 2 teeny baby buns in there!! I’m glad I left the corner hole and the nesting material for them. They’re only wee bigger than our red onions! 🥹💕

Got a bagful of peas yesterday from the community #GardenPlot14 🫛✨ they’ve survived the heatwave, I’m thankful.
-
Huh, a rain shower just passed through here. 🌧️
There was no precipitation in forecast earlier, so we went to water the community #GardenPlot14. Everything is growing well so far.
-
There was a tornado watch this afternoon. The sky looked ominous. But it just rained in the evening.
We were out planting at the community garden, taking advantage of the gusty wind (I didn’t have to use bug spray). Green onions are flowering now!
-
The red onions are growing! The self-seeded arugulas are flowering.

The comfrey bush in the corner of my community garden plot.

Spent all afternoon prepping the remaining 3 beds (there are total of 7, peas, onions, radishes, and herbs are already in) at our community garden plot. Transplanted the self-spouted cilantros, added compost, and covered them with weed-block cloths. All I have to do is prepare the seedlings. *easy peasy*
Harvested quite a bit of arugulas!! -
Had a nice late afternoon tidying up inside and around our #communityGarden #GardenPlot14 ✨
-
Cleaning up the plot is a back-aching job…😭 but I love it!
I’ve found a couple of burdock on the footpath, so I transplanted them.
The rhubarb is looking good. Still small though. I just need to dig up the lemonBalm that’s growing right behind it.
And comfrey! The pollinators love this herb. It makes great compost.
I also cleaned up outside of the fence, added soil and compost, and sowed some wildflower seeds. Hopefully “April showers” will make them grow. -
My red onions are growing!!! 😭💜
Today, I’ve planted some more supermarket scallions (which will become fat green onions), and harvested some 1st-of-the-season garlic chives (ニラ).

Saw the first paper #wasp queen claiming one of the #WaspHouse-s this afternoon in our #communityGarden plot—#GardenPlot14! 🥰 *made my day*
I believe they inherit the memory of their ancestors’ unsuccessful nest building in our plastic garden tool storage bench, and of the failed nest having been moved to the wooden wasp house nearby.
This wasp queen was hovering near the tool bench before deciding to go into the wasp house. They can learn, but it seems to take a few generations. 🏠🐝✨

Started to cleanup our plot at the #communityGarden a bit this evening, planted a bed of red onion sets around the marjoram (and the nesting material) and a few green onions (scallions from the supermarket). I’m counting on the spring rain. 🤞☔️💧🧅

Arugula is still blooming in my community garden plot!

Happy to see the paperWasps in the wasp-house are thriving in my community garden plot. 🥰💓🐝✨
-
Lotsa tomatoes from the community garden this year. And I haven’t bought a single plant! The heirloom and Roma tomato seedlings were given by a fellow gardener who ran out of space in her plot and the grape tomatoes grew from the seeds of the supermarket ones. They’re all delicious! 🍅✨
-
Found a couple of very ripe bittermelons 🧡
Et voilà, the airFried bittermelon fillets!! 😋
-
I was trying to take a photo of the paperWasps inside of one of the waspHouses in my community garden plot this evening. This one came out to protest wasp paparazzi. They’re so cute. 😆🥰💗🤨🐝✨
-
Transplanted three wild burdock plants in my community garden plot this evening.
-
Other recent haul from #gardenPlot14. I only grow what grows well without much effort* in my plot.
*compost, water and lots of sun—that’s about it
Descriptions are in the AltTexts 😉
-
👆🍅 I had to pick some of the large ones because they were weighing down the plants too much. I underestimated them to grow so big so fast. I didn’t have the support structures ready.
-
Bumblebee is hard at work on the green bean flowers in my community garden plot. 🤍🐝✨💕*grateful*
-
And sweet basils are growing at last. I love the taste of basils to the point I snack on them sometimes.
-
Arugula went to flower 🌸🪴✨
-
Pretty good harvest today. Bittermelons are doing so well in the bouts of heatwaves.
Pls see the AltText for names of the greens.
