From an API perspective, I'm not quite sure what the right approach is. The simplest might be "log if your favorite iGate has a long hop on APRS".

Nick #W8XM did a short writeup on the intersection between #APRS and #AREDN on the ARROW #W8RP AREDN network in Ann Arbor / Ypsilanti MI (Washtenaw County, EN82).

tldr: Pi + software modem doing an APRS I-Gate at a location *without* Internet access of its own, connected over one 5GHz and one 2.4GHz hop to W8XM's home network gateway (special segmented network exclusively used for aredn internet)
