The AREDN team has decided to step up to the plate with an AREDN-supported chat client, called Raven. It has a nice set of features:
    Realtime text messaging.
Can communicate with other Raven clients via AREDN.
Can communicate between AREDN meshes via Supernodes
Supports talking on a Meshtastic network
Supports talking on a Meshcore network

Information on prerequisites, installing and configuring Raven can be found at github.com/kn6plv/Raven/wiki

  5. My #AREDN RF nodes was offline (Ubiquiti Rocket M5). I isolated the problem to somewhere outside the shack (router and PoE were ok) and when I went up on the roof to investigate I found this!

I think the high winds had pulled the cable into a piece of exposed flashing and it had cut the Ethernet cable! So I've ordered a new cable (these are outdoor rated) and will mitigate the flashing issue.

    #hamradio

  6. Well I now have a #bpq node running on #AREDN. I wonder if it will get used

    #hamradio

  7. @scott @k3fnb I started setting up a linbpq node on my #AREDN node a while back but haven't finished it yet. The config is a bit confusing. I should finish off that project over the holidays

  8. I was using this map to look for #hamradio operators near me in good locations to put up an #AREDN node, and then reaching out to them to see if they wanted to mess around with it. I triangulated with #APRS activity to see who might be active in similar stuff, looked at QRZ pages (and lookups). So far I've emailed the person. Even though this is the density of operators near me:

  9. Just checked the #FFWN check-in progress with this setup and downloaded 23 #Winlink messages blazingly fast over #AREDN about 0.8 miles from my QTH.

    #hamradio

  10. @orv I've successfully set up RMS Relay on a PC connected to my home #AREDN node (W0RMT-HOME) to serve as a #Winlink Post Office. But I'd like to see if I can configure BPQ32 on a raspberry pi to act as a relay to the CMS instead. I've found some disconnected pieces of info on the web, but I was wondering if you knew of a resource or a person who has done this? It would be much better running the pi 24/7/365 and more reliable, too. I've got BPQ32 freshly installed on a pi connected to the node.

    @lckrohjr

  11. I have an old unused #Windows laptop lying around. I think I'll try to set it up as a #Winlink post office on my #AREDN node at home, then advertise it on the mesh. Could be fun!

    #hamradio

  12. @lckrohjr well I now have two nodes running: the hAP ac3 (W0RMT-HOME) and a RocketM5 (W0RMT-1). I'm tunneling the hAP to a local supernode for mesh connection. No RF connections yet but I'm looking for places to deploy the other M5s and also planning a portable setup with the Powerbeam that I got. I think I will get an hAP ac lite for that project.

  13. I picked up this pile of Ubiquiti 5G gear from another #hamradio operator today. Together with a Mikrotik hAP ac3, I'll use this stuff to play around with #AREDN.

  14. Hey #hamradio folks: what are your thoughts about #AREDN? I'm thinking about getting into and wondered if/how any #FediHams are using it

  19. Today in #3dprinting, made a custom 10" plate to hold my microtik hap ac lite that I use for #aredn. My old Elegoo Neptune 3 is reliable, but slow, will take almost 5 hours.

  20. #AREDN IP phone relocation complete! No longer a second class citizen in my #homelab :) #hamradio

  21. Interesting reading on lessons learned from amateur radio and mesh networking, how the Meshtastic community is relearning them, and some new technologies that might provide a more reliable approach. zeroretries.org/i/170507037/ha #Meshtastic #AREDN

  22. wew new #ArgoCD and #cloudflared tunnel for the #AREDN connected #RaspberryPi 5 🎉

still a lot more to do but this has been on my agenda for waaaaaay too long.

  23. #OpenHardware #OpenSource #Internet #HamRadio
#NPR (New Packet Radio) is a custom #radio protocol, designed to transport bidirectional #IP trafic over 430MHz radio links ( #HamRadio frequencies 420-450MHz ). This protocol is optimized for "point to multipoint" topology, with the help of managed #TDMA.

Bitrate is 50 to 500kbps (net, effective bitrate), depending on the RF bandwidth chosen.

The radio modem is cheap (~80$) and home-made, with a 433MHz #ISM module inside (flexible enough to be tuned over the whole 420-450MHz band). The modem is connected locally with #Ethernet, therefore no specific software is needed on PC.
The modem is easy to build and reproduce.
You can add a #DMR radio amplifier in order to achieve 20W radio power or more.
The main usage is an extension of #HSMM - #Hamnet - #AREDN networks.
All the project is open-source : hardware, software, protocol specification.

  24. The eBay fairy stopped by and left me a present. Looks like I'll be building an #aredn node and adding it to my #amprnet allocation.

  25. Ce matin c'est la grande journée des mises à jour de notre réseau. Il est possible que certains systèmes soient indisponibles quelques minutes lors des opérations de maintenance.

Firewall, routeur, switch, radios... Tout y passe!

  26. I must admit that I've been "lazy" to learn #Ansible ...

I was maintaining 25 #AREDN mesh nodes all by hand even if I had previously made needed script to do everything. The script was working, but needed tweaking. Tonight I took a shot at tweaking it and make sure that only critical nodes are not updated automatically.

Result is 25nodes updated with only one password input in less than an hour! Not bad!

VE2ATU network is now fully updated to latest release.

  29. @n2rj I want to expand digital use in new ways. #AREDN #M17 #SDR #PacketRadio #Vara #Mesh #DMR #Voip I'm looking for ham radio kits and low cost DIY projects that get me to use my soldering iron, nano-vna and my keyboard all in one project. #HamRadio #HamHarder

  30. Has anyone else ever setup an openstreetmap tile sever for #AREDN #AREDNMESH purposes? I tested with the northeast region of the US and was able to get it working in under a couple of hours, so I expanded to North America and I'm in about 12 hours already and its still working away. I hate to think how long it would take to render all the tiles on the globe on a raspberry pi. Good thing I'm on an SSD. #OSM

  33. My PR to #arednmesh has been merged into the repository earlier this week as commit 74810d01b4a54bfc2809c97bda5ca048f9eb12fe.

It fixed a bug that was introduced during the code translation to LUA.

The bug: It was not possible anymore to open ports range from the GUI in the port forwarding area.

Reason 1: REGEX has hyphen not properly escaped.

Reason 2 : Port range validation logic was reversed. The code was validating a port range having an higher start point than the ending point.

Along those 2 fixes and some discussions with dev team, another tweak has been made in the GUI code to escape blank space if any in front of the port range so the value is properly reused later for internal uses.

This was my first code contribution to AREDN Mesh. I already look forward to help when my skills allows to.

  38. #introduction Hello Everyone, this is @VA2XJM writing on the @VE2ATU account.

VE2ATU is the #callsign of the "Association des Radioamateurs de l'Abitibi-Témiscamingue". We are a group based in Western Quebec. We are deploying an #aredn mesh network as the backbone of our operations and we run various projects over this like an IMRS network for our Yaesu Fusion repeaters.

Our operations goes mainly in #fr but we will work to share in #en also.

    Thx for the welcome!

  39. More #QRPpp operations this a.m, from a cafe near my house (Roos) I got 30 milliwatts into the #ARROW repeater using my #Kenwood #TH22AT. The repeater is atop #WoTo about a mile to the south. No signal reports yet but I'm betting it's pretty good.

Very tempting to rig up a portable #AREDN node from there and try to hit the 2.4 GHz or 5.8 GHz systems on that same building, that's going to be a good test location, and it's entirely plausible I could get rooftop access there at Roos.
