Today I said goodbye to the mother of a close friend who I have known for about 25 years. We may not have spent a huge amount of time together but over the years formed a bond such that I earned the honorary title "Fourth son".
A poet of advancing years she was struck down by aphasia and now struggles to communicate just just "yes", "no", and thumbs up. Widowed a few years ago and far from her children she had decided it's time to move on.
