Act 2 is done!
I really enjoyed this part of the game. The larger plot is all starting to come together and there was a lot of good character quests and moments for the companions.
The gauntlet of shar stuff was probably my favorite part of this act. That Balthazaar fight sucked though and I thought he was way tougher than the actual big bad boss fight for act 2.
Towards the end of this act I did manage to get an ending to the game after telling a companion to blow themselves up because I didn't think they'd actually do it lol
I'm still having a lot of fun play it and will hopefully get to start up act 3 tonight.

I'm pretty sure I've wrapped up everything in the underdark now so I'll hit up the creche next.
The grymforge stuff escalated very quickly. I got there and next thing I know I'm plotting with some dwarves and end up in a big fight. Then shortly after that I'm in a fight with a giant robot.
I did find an elevator that gave me a point of no return sounding message so I think I'm close to being done with Act 1.
I've definitely gotten over the hump of getting into this game and I'm really enjoying it now.

I am determined to force my way through this game! I restarted (again) and have just been running around doing things.
I killed an owl bear tonight and honestly I felt really bad about it. Like I almost reloaded from a previous save.

Holy f---ing shit!!! This has to be the most epic "why won't you just die" ending I have ever played. Or seen.
What... The... Hell!? 🤯
This game really feels like it was made for me and I'm so glad that I got to play it. Now I'm real curious to check out the sequels, although I'm also a bit wary, because I think they completely ripped out the core mechanics. 😬
But Parasite Eve is a damn fine game!!!
-
After a longer break, I finally found some time to continue with Parasite Eve. The game keeps on being amazing. I don't want to spoil anything, so for anybody who's played it, I finished out day 2 with a wild ride out of Central Park and played all the way through day 3, which ended with a tough and resource draining boss fight. I think I'm doing okay on resources, but it was pretty tight in the end. 😬
The pre-rendered cutscenes keep on delivering! If you're at least a little bit into the body horror of Carpenter's The Thing, you should definitely check out this game! -
CW: Parasite Eve day 2
Wrapped up day 2. This story is wild but I love it. A game about mitochondria taking over and making people spontaneously combust isn't something I would have ever thought of but it works.
Towards the end when Ben was seeing the dog I kept expecting the dog to attack him. No idea why lol
I did have to stop at one point and do the tutorial because this game doesn't really explain much as you go.

I finished up Coffee Talk the other day and did everything short of the serve 50 drinks in endless mode achievement. After doing all that I can pretty confidently say that this one isn't for me. It's definitely more visual novel than game and most of my time was spent with my Steam Deck sitting on the table just reading the text as it auto played.
The visuals look nice and the music is well done and fits the theme. I thought most of the characters were well written and the story wasn't bad. It kept things moving but wasn't the most engaging to me.
I'm just not a visual novel person and I would have enjoyed if it there was more game play involved.

I started up Coffee Talk yesterday and it's ... interesting. I don't really play visual novel games so I was hoping this one would have a bit more gameplay going on but most of my time with it has just been letting the text auto play because I got tired of constantly pressing A to advance.
One of the characters, Gala, did really annoy me. He tells you to make a drink for him with tea and ginger but he doesn't know what the 3rd ingredient should be. So I take a guess on it and did like tea, ginger and mint and then he tells me it's wrong and that I didn't follow what he told me. Douche.
Seems like the game is pretty short so I'll finish it but I don't think this one is for me lol

I've caught up with the DLCs for #TheRiseOfTheGoldenIdol now. Especially the second one has a puzzle where you have to incrementally decipher a plethora of cryptic symbols. Not gonna lie, I was pretty proud of myself when I figured it out.
Next, I'll start early on #FinalFantasyVI for #VGCJune2025. I'm planning to emulate the SNES version. Is that a good idea or is there a better "must play" version?
I'm going for the SNES release, because I can easily run that on my PS Vita -- meaning I can put the Vita to sleep whenever I want and I can play on the couch instead of using my laptop. 😁

CW: Question for FF VI and mild spoilers for FF X
I have a question for #FinalFantasyVI veterans.
Does this game have a "haha, you neglected to grind up all characters, get fucked" story beat?
This happened to me in FF X, where I spent the whole game with my favorite characters and got by just fine -- and a story beat in the mid- to endgame split up the party and I had to fight a tough battle with two severly underleveled characters. 😬 Saved myself into a corner too, but I managed it somehow using a bunch of combat items IIRC. 😅 -
I finished #ActRaiser, but it took me at least six tries to get through the final bit. Talk about a huge difficulty spike that late in the game.
Luckily the health bar of the final boss is only meant to be intimidating. Its attacks are easy to dodge and you hit like a brick when you hit it. 😁I've now moved on to #Metroid Zero Mission for #VGCMay2025, where I made it just past Kraid. I have a bunch of unidentified stuff, which is intriguing. At first I thought that I had done some accidental sequence breaks, but you can tell from the level geometry that the game expects you to have these skills.
-
@scribblemacher Reading this thread led me to try Metroid II again as well. I played through it twice in the '90s, and I can't recall whether I've player it through again since. I replaced battery a few years ago, so I'm already starting from a fresh save.
Now I have my spouse's old Super Nintendo and Super Game Boy, so I have a new way to experience it!
The color scheme reminds me of CGA palettes, except I don't hate it.

I finished Night in the Woods tonight. The town is completely overrun with rats now because of me. Absolutely incredible.
Great game that you should probably play. Kind of cozy, kind of depressing, a little spooky and a lot of fun.
Probably going to pick Paper Mario back up now. Or read a book. idk yet.
-
I kept stealing pretzels to feed to some rats living in an abandoned parade float and now the rats have left the nest and don't need me anymore 🥲
-
CW: Night in the Woods spoilers maybe. pretty minor stuff
Made it to part 3 tonight. Still enjoying this game quite a bit. I've spent so much time jumping along on power lines lol
Anytime I have to pick between hanging out with Bea or Gregg it's way harder for me to choose than it should be. So far I've only picked Gregg once. We had a knife fight in the woods and then Gregg opened up about relationship stuff.
To me it feels like Gregg is more likely to encourage Mae to keep acting like she always has but Bea is more likely to try to push Mae to change. Idk maybe things will change as I keep playing.
Probably going to play more tomorrow.

I started up Night in the Woods and played a few hours tonight. So far it's pretty fun. The gameplay is simple but the characters and dialogue are well done. I was not prepared for a bass playing rhythm mini-game lol

Anyone played the Steam version of Final Fantasy 6 on a Steam Deck? I'm debating picking it up on Steam or just emulating it for next months Video Game Club.

@GaymerGeek I haven't finished it yet but what I've played so far was pretty fun. It's a good looking looking platformer with a cute story. I'm absolutely terrible at playing 2d platformers so the inclusion of an easy mode was very much appreciated. Unsurprisingly it did play great on the Steam Deck!
I'm really looking forward to Tactical Breach Wizard for next month!
