The U.S. Department of Treasury has officially issued a 60-day sanctions waiver on Iranian oil, petrochemical products, and gas
It is now in effect, until August 21st, with possibly extension as long as negotiations continue and a final deal is reached.
The ridiculous thing is that they feel entitled to dictate how Iran can use the money and who they can do business with.

(1) Any transaction involving a person located in or organized under the laws of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the Republic of Cuba, the Covered Regions of Ukraine, as defined by E.O. 14065, the Crimea Region of Ukraine, as defined by E.O. 13685, or any entity that is owned or controlled by or in a joint venture with such persons;or

US DOT Aviation Climate Plan
I am currently on the Amtrak Cascades line between Seattle and Vancouver, returning from the awesome SeaGL 2025 conference at the University of Washington. I decided to cancel the US leg of my flight home because of the airport chaos caused by cancelling 10% of domestic flights. But it got me thinking that reducing air travel by 10% could have a huge effect on the USA’s greenhouse gas emissions.
My best estimate from the US Greenhouse Gas Inventory is that aviation emissions are about 125Mt annually. If we assume that the air traffic reduction will last about 1 month, that month would normally account for about 10Mt of emissions. A 10% reduction would thus make up about 1Mt of emissions.
For scale, that’s about the annual emissions of around 54,000 Americans. Not a bad reduction! It’s kind of a small percent of the total 6343 Mt the US puts out every year — about 0.016% — but I guess every bit counts. Given how tepid other climate action, even unintentional, has been in the US this year, we should probably congratulate the US DOT for its bold climate action.

At yesterday’s Vision Zero meeting for Monterey County, the challenges of Salinas Road were among topics discussed. In fact, on Wednesday, a Watsonville resident traveling by bike was going north on the shoulder of Salinas Road when he attempted to make a left turn and was hit by a GMC Yukon. The Yukon’s driver fled the scene. Good Samaritans assisted the injured bike commuter. Thank you to law enforcement; the driver has been arrested and faces felony #HitAndRun charges.

Mayor Bowser thanked the first responders for their rescue work overnight in the frigid waters of the #Potomac River.

That cargo ship was CLEARLY overloaded to absurd proportions making it difficult to steer.It was SO heavy they had to push it to an excessive rate of speed for those waters (8 knots) just to get it to move, but that only made it harder to steer.

I've proffered that "The Federal gov't needs to STANDARDIZE EV batteries."JUST IMAGINE if every battery operated device in your home used a custom battery. By "standardizing" EV batteries, we could install "battery swap stations" across the U.S. where you get a fully charged battery in 2 minutes.
If the Federal gov't can't do it, #California should. Just like with #Emissions, the auto-industry follows CA's lead as their largest market. @GovNewsome #USDoT

The problem is the entire EV industry lacks Federal Standards. They need standardized charging ports (so you can plug in anywhere), standardized batteries (for battery swap kiosks) and standardized diagnostic ports. -

Secretary Buttigieg was one of the first candidates that I can recall in recent memory that actually made roadway and transportation safety a centerpiece of his presidential primary campaign.
These topics are hardly ever even mentioned on the campaign trial!
Elaine Chao, Trump's pick for Secretary of Transportation, did enormous damage to the #USDOT and its sub-agencies and Biden and Buttigieg needed to get the ball rolling from Day 1.
Did not happen.
