Precise language is probably a good idea when addressing SCOTUS, especially Catholic members of the court who are probably intelligent enough to discern nuances of Catholic teaching.
The point needs to be made that all people need to be treated with dignity. There's a lot of ways to achieve this and birthright citizenship may be one tool but it is not an essential tool.
That said, I'm a fan of birthright citizenship because I worry that, without it, we eventually have a class of multi-generational non-citizens whose lack of citizenship becomes a defining trait that segregates society, creating a series of problems we could easily avoid by making people citizens at birth.
