  1. Our internship program is one of the most intensive things we do, and each student who participates (all paid, thanks to generous private support!) gets a lot out of it, with real, hands-on experiential learning in fields they want to pursue. But don’t take it from us. Here are some of their thoughts.

  3. Hi, Mastodon! We know this isn't really your thing, but the #UniversityOfGeorgia is celebrating Dawg Day of Giving all day. This yearly 24-hour campaign tries to bring in as many individual gifts as possible for #UGA. But don't listen to us. Listen to student guide Luke McDaniel make the case, then make your gift of $5 or more to the museum at bit.ly/4dKMRHB.

  4. Back in 2022, we organized the exhibition "Wealth and Beauty: Pier Francesco Foschi and Painting in Renaissance Florence," the first monographic show on the now obscure but once fashionable 16th-century Florentine painter. georgiamuseum.org/exhibit/weal

Now the Florentine version of the show is open, at the #Accademia. galleriaaccademiafirenze.it/en

Have fun doing a compare and contrast!

  6. Our staff members not only teach every day through unconventional methods, but they also teach through conventional ones. Four Georgia Museum of Art staff members are teaching University of Georgia classes this fall semester, and each is using the museum in a different way to enrich those classes. 8. Something BIG Is Happening in Georgia – And It's NOT What You Think!

What if I tell you that one of the most affordable routes to study in the USA in 2026 might just be in the heart of Athens, Georgia, USA? Yes, the University of Georgia (UGA) is offering scholarships that are shaking up the system from Merit-Based Awards to Need-Based Grants, and even International Student Funding you probably never heard of!

  9. Museums don't build job skills. That's what many people think. But our newest experiential learning program is not only preparing these #UniversityOfGeorgia students for their next step, it's also building bridges between campus and community.

  10. One of our favorite year-end features is the #UniversityOfGeorgia photographers' round-up of their favorite photos of the past year. Even when our museum isn't in it, it's fun to see their great work and to read their thoughts on the combination of art and luck that makes for a great photo.

  11. We're happy to be teaming up with the Athenaeum at the Lamar Dodd School of Art (#UniversityOfGeorgia), on a pair of exhibitions focusing on #BeverlyBuchanan. Known nationally as a bold experimental artist who worked in land art and video as well as more familiar forms, she lived in Athens from 1987 to 2010.

Read both press releases to get a feel for what will be on view in January.

  12. We used to write a blog post at the end of every semester celebrating our interns. It was lovely to appreciate their work and find nice things to say about them. But when we shifted to letting THEM talk about their work and their experience, the post became much more powerful. Here they are, writing about what they got out of their internships and the different things they learned. ❤️

  13. Did you know veterinary medicine students experience burn-out? Art can help with that!

This September, we partnered with the #UniversityOfGeorgia College of Veterinary Medicine on a program to enhance their students' clinical skills AND their well-being.

  14. Last year, the museum launched its student guide program, an opportunity for #UniversityOfGeorgia students to build research, leadership and public speaking skills. We talked to Alexis Gorby, who runs the program, about how it came together and how it benefits students in all majors.

  15. The exhibition "Brilliant Exiles" has been on view at two other museums, including the #NationalPortraitGallery, which organized it. But its appearance at the #GeorgiaMuseumOfArt is different because of a unique on-campus partnership. The #UniversityOfGeorgia has a clothing and textile collection from which we were able to borrow items to expand the lens of the show and make visitors' experience richer.

  16. The #UniversityOfGeorgia fall semester started yesterday (yes, we know, it's VERY early), and that means it's time to swap out the works on view in our study gallery. This fall, we're working with professors in art history, history (museum studies) and women's studies to pull works from the collection that their classes can use all semester long: Goya, Ronnie Goodman, a 19th-century quilt, ancient Roman coins and more.

  17. Kelsey Siegert, a recent master's graduate from the #UniversityOfGeorgia #LamarDoddSchoolOfArt, recently joined our team as our first William J. Thompson Curatorial Fellow. Here's a little bit more about Siegert as well as the projects she'll be working on.
