"UK's Purchasing Power Drops 41% Over Two Decades: Cost of Living and Lack of Investment to Blame" (January 2025)

Certainly feels like a lot more than "41% in two decades". In 2022 alone we saw the price of a number of everyday items go up anywhere between 20% and 50%, while packages shrank ("shrinkflation"), like e.g., butter as 200g instead of 250g, and yogurt reduce from 500g to 450g, and so many more.

  17. Just had my home insurance renewal quote through from QuoteMeHappy.
Up 50% on last year (and an increase in compulsory excess)!

    2020 £56.65
    2021 £62.08
    2022 £64.48
    2023 £82.89
    2024 £124.98

This is with 5 years no claims discount and no risk of flooding. Buildings only, no frills policy.

A comparison site search gives a best price of £124.34 from John Lewis Insurance. It's worth me switching due to much lower excess.
