  1. Another aspect of the health service where the UK used to be world leader but no longer is; this time its the ongoing problems in organ transplant operations across the NHS in England.

Its the same story (again); lack of investment, over-worked staff, a lack of coordination in a fragmented system, all caused by the manner in which the health service has been 'reformed' in the last decades & the impact of austerity.

We can & must do better!

  5. Holy fucking fuck, SCIENCE!

"A patient with type 1 diabetes has begun producing his own insulin after receiving a transplant of pancreatic cells. For the first time, islet cells have been edited so they wouldn't be rejected by the patient, removing the need for immunosuppressant drugs." --Dr Ian Weissman on Bluesky

"Mouse eyes photosynthesize after plant-to-animal transplant

Could spinach extracts be the next treatment for dry-eye disease?

Photosynthetic machinery can be harvested from spinach and transplanted into the eyes of mice, where it transforms light into molecules that carry energy and can tame inflammation"

“With a wealth of evidence and accusations indicating that Israel has been implicated in the systematic harvesting of organs during its genocide, it begs the question as to why no independent international investigation has yet been opened.

As in the early 1990s, Palestinian evidence is again being buried beneath western political protection, fear of Israel lobby retaliation, and the standing presumption that Israeli institutions can investigate themselves”

  8. The UK had a world beating organ transplant service (in the NHS) but now due to staffing problems & old(er) technologies it lags other European counties on the number of transplants successfully achieved & the subsequent survival rate.

Even though we 'harvest' organs at a rate in line with other counties we use a lower proportion for actual transplants.

Its just one more fatal consequence of the Tory engineered (but continuing) NHS crisis.

"Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping Are Seeking Immortality—And Believe They’re Closer Than Ever to Achieving It

The two figures were caught discussing death-defying science while walking with the Supreme Leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un. Did the world’s most notorious rulers just unlock eternal life?

    (. . .)

Here’s what you’ll learn when you read this story:

    • Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping were caught on a hot mic discussing their belief that organ transplants could help them live to 150.

    • The rulers got one thing right: biotechnology for life extension is certainly developing—but it may be less promising than they’re letting on.

    • Recent longevity advancements include reviving a dead brain and growing body parts for organ transplantation."
